Giants can be a top 5 Defense in the NFL

AROCK1000 : 2/9/2022 11:14 am
If a few things go our way...
This is why I seriously consider moving up to get Hutchinson
If Martinez is healthy and yes we should keep Bradbury.

It is unbelievable to me that some people still think the team Gettleman assembled is salvageable.

How bad does it have to get before it should be broken down completely???

save your post for future pasting, gonna need it.

Hopefully just by the law of averages the Giants have a few guys who improve their cost/benefit ratio.
I think a lot of fans

can't look beyond the season at hand, which I get strictly from the gameday experience and how quickly it flies by and then it's the offseason again. But, the Giants are going to look much different by the time they're ready to win again.

Evidently the Giants think so, why else would they take a coordinator similar to Graham scheme-wise?

You think Graham and Martindale are similar?

Hybrid scheme.

Outside of both playing a base 3-4, Wink is nothing like PG scheme-wise. How often did you see PG play cover 0?

That's the same logic John Mara has been using for 10 years.

My only point is the defense under Graham has been pretty good for 2 years, while having to support a terrible offense and without an elite pass rusher, with a very Good MLB on injured reserve and mostly no name LB corp. It's not a stretch to say with a couple pieces added and a better offense, the defense can potentially still be good.
the Giants are only a few

elite Edge Rushers, run stuffing DTs, shut down DBs, side line to side line tackling machine LBs who can cover TEs/RBs with 4.4 speed and a few ball hawking safeties away from being a top 5 defense!

I honestly don't know what game some fans are watching on Sunday, but I would like some of what they are smoking.

Got to figure the parts on defense will change, just look at the cap numbers and overall situation relative to wins/losses, the new GM is going to make changes.

That's the problem when looking at a roster and how to improve it. It's not just about the 2022 season. Players age, get injured, ran out of gas, depart via UFA, you've got to have a design, a plan, and a pipeline flowing with talent to keep the cap healthy as well as the gameday product.
Giants defense under Wink
JonC : 2/9/2022 3:12 pm : link
should look fundamentally different than Graham. The latter scheme is alot like the Patriots bend don't break, while the former is more of an old school attacking 3-4 trying to dictate to the offense.

I don't give shit about what he says, he has to actually do it. If he follows through and gets surgical about the cap, we are going to have another losing season.

It's a good thing.

We have to take our lumps and get back to square. A Gettleman get out of jail free card in 2022.

Think like a surgeon and CUT CUT CUT!

Trade whatever you can.

Let young and hungry play, someone might surprise.

2023 is our year not 2022.

Hey JC sure that makes sense. It'll be interesting to see how many changes are made for sure. I do feel like some people here (not you) are at the stage of throwing out the baby with the bathwater though... lol. I mean we still have to field a team. They can't jettison and/or trade everyone... lol. We are still going to have some decent players on D. It's a good point on Wink though... not sure if we have the pieces he needs for his scheme enough to not take a step back.
Nope

the Giants have no money to spend and not much talent.
ha ha! Top 5!
mikeinbloomfield : 2/9/2022 3:46 pm : link
Between cutting guys because of the cap and the young players we're going to sign just to fill out the roster, they are going to suck and I can't wait. If Schoen is who we think he is, giving him two years of decent draft capital and the cap space he's going to free up -- they should make some noise in 2023. In the meantime, I'll be in my seats watching the young guys learn the game.

Giants wasted 10 years.

We're starting over again.

Get ready for more losing until the rebuild is well under way. Think 2023 or 2024 at the earliest. If they have to dump Daniel Jones, it is going to take longer.

If? Dumping Jones is the first thing they should do.
And replace him with who? Certainly no QB in the upcoming draft. Not to mention, anyone they replace him with would have done no better playing behind this crappy OL.
Interesting coach choice

Watching the Giants offense the last few years has been Kafkaesque
anything can happen
sb2003 : 2/9/2022 11:28 pm : link
but this team has been very bad for a very long time. It's going to take a few years.
