Just finished “Football For a Buck” by Jeff Pearlman which details the 1980’s USFL. I recommend it. A total absence of nostalgia for the old USFL- probably because you can’t talk about the old league without talking about the divisive owners, notably 45.

When the XFL starts next year, I'm wondering how that league and this one won't end up cannibalizing each other.
Apparently even if COVID didn't happen, XFL 2.0 was losing ratings steadily every week and most likely would have gone out of business after only a year or two anyway

It's telling that our first instinct as a species when we see a drone flying around is, "How can I shoot that thing out of the sky?"
Maybe it's not instinct. Maybe it's learned behavior. Most of the times when drones are flying overhead they're probably not actually looking out for your best interest and they may be dropping bombs on you.

Hmm, reminds me of half life 2 where all drones are hostile. That was 2003 or 4, long before there was drone cameras at sporting events. So there probably is a common consciousness bias against them from sci-fi games, books, movies, etc

the NFL was found to have engaged in an antitrust conspiracy. Neither the NFL nor its toadies in sports media are interested in reminding anyone of that.

Hey, the NFL paid their trebled $3 antitrust fine. *grin*
I'm pretty much always willing to sit and stare at any football on tv, even some spring football.
But the biggest problem these spring leagues have always faced as a tv product is a severe lack of quarterback play.
The NFL figured this out many years ago and that's when they began creating all the rules to protect their quarterbacks.
The "thrill" of watching a quarterback get smoked by a linebacker was nowhere near worth the price of then having to watch that quarterback's backup play for the next six weeks.
I like it.
