A lot of the drama is basically decided in the East.
All 8 playoff teams have clinched, only jockeying for position/seeding is left.
All teams have anywhere from 2 to 4 games left.
As it stands today (games remaining in () at the end):
E1: (Atlantic champ) Panthers 120 pts (clinched 1 seed) (4)
E2: (Metro champ*) Hurricanes 110 pts (*not clinched) (3)
E3: Leafs 109 pts (3)
E4: Rangers 108 pts (3)
E5: Lightning 105 pts (4)
E6: Bruins 101 pts (4)
E7: Pens 101 pts (3)
E8: Caps 99 pts (4)
If nothing changes the 1st round matchups would be:
Panthers vs Caps (A1 vs WC2)
Hurricanes vs Bruins (M1 vs WC1)
Leafs vs Lightning (A2 vs A3)
Rangers vs Pens (M2 vs M3)
If I'm the Rangers I'm fine where I am and they have clinched at worst the 2 seed in the Metro. I'd rather play the Pens than the Bruins.
I will add the West in a separate post (5 teams have clinched and basically 4 teams vying for the final 3 spots).
If the habs were a contender (or close) I'd have been all over signing Kane. It's not often you get a player that caliber for that price and in the realm of shit players do his infractions (based on what I have read) don't move the needle (for me, lol).
USA beat Latvia 4 - 1 (goals from Riley Barber (Kieffer Bellows assist), Seth Jones, Thomas Bordeleau, and Sam Lafferty
Canada beat Germany 5 - 3 (Pierre Luc Dubois, Thomas Chabot, Kent Johnson, Josh Anderson, Ryan Graves, Batherson, Cozens, etc on Canada - easily the most talented team in the tournament - Moritz Seider, Tim Stutzle, Grubbauer the key players on Germany)
Finland beat Norway 5 - 0
Slovakia beat France 4 - 2
most outstanding player, this award gets voted on by the players.
1 min left. We could get an OT
And we will be having ANOTHER Game 7 Stars win.
I think that's a record. Not a lot of OT drama though.
So, 3 7's today:
BOS @ CAR @ 4:30? WTF - way to go NHL
TBL @ TOR @ 7
LAK @ EDM @ 10 (McDavid leads the playoffs with 12 pts in 6 games)
great day for hockey fans.

Why couldn't we do 3, 6, and 9?
This is textbook traffic in front and layers by the Stars and not bad D by the Flames.
Nice job by Heiskanen to get this on net for the go ahead goal late.
5 just in the NHL, 7 if you include the NBA
I think Lias has been a healthy scratch so far for LAK.
It was close, maybe even 50/50 but TOR was the home team and has the best player on either team (Auston Matthews), so if you had to pick a favorite (not considering how small TOR has consistently come up in the playoffs in the past and not considering TBL are two time defending champs) I think most people would pick TOR.
they did not lose because of Campbell.
two great game 7's so far. Need an OT though. figures if we get one it will be the late game.
Go Giants.
There is no one close to him right now in the NHL - and that's to say nothing about how good players like MacKinnon, Makar, Barkov, etc. are - McDavid is just that much better.
what an amazing game he had last night. Every time the puck is on his stick and he gets his feet moving he still looks like that kid in youth hockey who is just more talented than everyone else.
David Quinn is the USA coach.
should get some reinforcements this week since the Wild lost. Ryan Hartman, Matthew Boldy and John Merrill heading over to Finland.
The Austria coaches goal coming in to this tournament "just hope one team is below us in the standings so we can remain in the tournament"
Worlds is not a memorandum on the best because so many players don't play in it, but Austria is basically a D-II college team. This might be a low point for USA hockey on the international stage.
same obviously with Auston Matthews, Jack Campbell or Jonathan Quick
@TomGulittiNHL
Carl Hagelin said he took a stick blade directly to his left eye and ruptured the choroid in the back of the eye. He’s had two surgeries, the last one about a month ago. He said he won’t get 100 percent of vision back but he’s being optimistic and will work to play next season
The worst one I remember was Bryan Berard, and he was a phenom coming in to the NHL (Calder winner, etc) and still had a decent career after the injury.
Not that it should affect the pick at #2 but the fact that Hughes has the upside as a top pairing guy is why I don't think the Devil's will go Nemec or Jiricek with the pick.

wins it in OT.

Hughes looks like a future star but the Devils could always use another great defensive prospect if he is the clear BPA. If they stay at 2 though I think they have to go Cooley or Slafkovsky before Nemec.
I can't remember ever hearing an NHL team say they have too many good D or too many centers.
trades are a lot more common/easier in the NHL because contracts are all guaranteed
the good news is Crosby was still the best player on the ice for either team, and I used to think Guentzel was a product of Crosby, but I no longer think that. Guentzel is a heck of a player.

Oh I agree but it's really hard to differentiate who is the BPA in the next group of 4 players after Wright. I still think the Devs go Slaf. His size and skill on the wing at his age will be too enticing to pass up.
