Anyone else excited about the two ILBs we drafted?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/1/2022 9:18 pm
I think a lot of fans were still dwelling on the "disappointing" second day of the draft and did reset their focus on the third day.

Adding Micah McFadden and Darrian Beavers in the same draft is pretty darn cool. Sure, they are not ideal athletes, but they make plays.... a lot of plays and are always around the ball. I can't wait to see them developed under Wink (a former LB coach).
Yes
Jay on the Island : 5/1/2022 9:20 pm : link
I know most are more excited about Beavers but I really like McFadden more. I think he is going to start this season and be a very good ILB for the Giants. He will likely come off the field on 3rd down but he can still be a very solid contributor.
Definitely

Curious to see if they unseat Crowder and Carter Coughlin and Cam Brown could be in trouble. Good news we have a ton of practice squad eligible players that were on the 53 last year, so guys who get beat out will likely land in the practice squad.
Watched Micah against my Wolverines and he stood out on the IU defense
Kvgoblue : 5/1/2022 9:22 pm : link
My recollection was that he was the only defender making plays last year against our O. I don’t know all the ILBs out there but I definitely like his grit and make for the ball.
I am
Dankbeerman : 5/1/2022 9:25 pm : link
look at the dumpster fire of guys we put back there last year.

Crowder I am a fan of but he can not be the guy back there. Blake being back will help him but a rotation of all 4 depending on feel of the game will help.

Blitz baby Blitz.
Damn striaght, It's been so damn long . these two
gtt350 : 5/1/2022 9:25 pm : link
seem to have the goods
They really need
dabru : 5/1/2022 9:27 pm : link
Martinez to bounce back but maybe this years’ 5th and 6th rounders can beat out 2020’s 6th and 7th guys. Seriously though, I am trying to temper my expectations based on past shattered hopes.
I haven't seen a player yet, that has disappointed
George from PA : 5/1/2022 9:31 pm : link
I remember the Indiana LBer as well....he is a great blitzer....which is what Wink wants!

Even the most controversial, the short WR....is not small....than I read, he was converted RB. That arrow just keep pointing up.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them use Beavers
robbieballs2003 : 5/1/2022 9:37 pm : link
as an outside LB too. Watch the end of this highlight video and listen to what the announcer says. Tell me we don't need more guys like this?
Link - ( New Window )
they both look good to me -
Del Shofner : 5/1/2022 9:39 pm : link
blitzing seems to be a skill with both. I think Wink is going to use them well.

Wan'Dale is awesome. I ran a bunch of mock draft simulators over the last couple weeks. He was a guy I'd always try and get. I'm a huge fan of him. Think he's gonna be a guy that consistently has around 1000 yards from scrimmage and 7-8 total TDs.
Yes, love the picks
Rjanyg : 5/1/2022 9:40 pm : link
Beavers played many different positions too.
I trust wink with lbers
Mattman : 5/1/2022 9:41 pm : link
just like I trusted coughlin to find good receivers

I’m excited
I think Carter C comes back
Joe Beckwith : 5/1/2022 9:52 pm : link
But Crowder and Brown are gone, or ST, and one of the UDFA, as they cycle players through tryouts, finds a spot.
My son goes to IU so I’ve watched a of McFadden
BillT : 5/1/2022 9:57 pm : link
And seen him twice in person. He’s really good. Smart, always around the ball , runs well. Psyched he’s on the Giants.
My daughter is graduating Indiana

This Saturday
She has had classes with McFadden. Says he’s the nicest guy and is easy to root for
He will be a player for 10 years
" Beavers took it personally and showed up for practice on Tuesday"
gtt350 : 5/1/2022 10:01 pm : link
Evidently practice wasnt until wednesday. yep we sure do need more guys like this
im excited to see what Wink does with all the linebackers
Eric on Li : 5/1/2022 10:02 pm : link
in a way it's like an upgraded version of 2020 when they took the 3 or 4 guys late except it's a few guys from the draft and several already here.

Smith, Roche, Coughlin, and Brown have shown juice at times so i wonder how any of them look being allowed to really cut it loose going for the QB. Same with McFadden and Beavers.

I don't think any of those guys are 4 down players but if Wink can make a couple of role players out of them that would be a lot.
Am I excited by Beavers?
NoGainDayne : 5/1/2022 10:05 pm : link
Yes!

Also McFadden. I think adding some ILB that have blitzing abilities is great. Concerned about our O still but the D could be very exciting this year I think

No, he paused with what he was saying. He said he showed up on Tuesday taking out scout team players.
Yes, both look like the real deal.
eric2425ny : 5/1/2022 10:12 pm : link
Crowder, Brunson, Coughlin, and Cam Brown are on the hot seat as of this weekend.
right my bad i listened again
gtt350 : 5/1/2022 10:13 pm : link
so the coaches had to pull him off the scout team even better baha
I would have been excited about any draftable inside LB.
Ivan15 : 5/1/2022 10:14 pm : link
.
It's going to be interesting to watch
j_rud : 5/1/2022 10:20 pm : link
due to the lack of talent at the position. Let's say you're betting Incumbents vs Draft Picks for who is to nail down the spot next to Martinez (just assume he's healthy for the sake of discussion)...honestly, is anyone picking the Incumbents?
This D needs some attitude.
robbieballs2003 : 5/1/2022 10:21 pm : link
A guy like Beavers may not be enough unless he just takes a starting spot but a guy like Antonio Pierce that would lead the unit to make sure everyone brought their A game every day
Yes.
Klaatu : 5/1/2022 10:22 pm : link
I'm so tired of the crap we've been trotting out there for way too long. Honestly, I know very little about them, I've only seen highlights which can be very misleading. But I'm still excited, and encouraged, since it appears that they'll get some really good coaching here.
Forgive my laziness, but

Can someone explain the logic behind that guy falling to the sixth round?

Lance Zierlein had this to say about him:

Quote:
Inside linebacker with throwback size but also throwback athleticism that fails to fit cleanly into today's brand of football. Beavers is a phone-booth linebacker who is well-schooled in taking on and slipping blocks between the tackles but can be overwhelmed by athletic opponents when forced to move and play in space.
remember Uani Unga and Devante Downs
Eric on Li : 5/1/2022 10:51 pm : link
those were the days.
Very much so.
Matt M. : 5/1/2022 11:04 pm : link
I especially like Beavers. How did he last so long?

So, is he suggesting that this video is doctored or something?

Anything that gets Crowder off the field
Snablats : 5/1/2022 11:55 pm : link
is good for the Giants. Unless Wink can unlock something better in him, Crowder just isnt close to good enough
I really like Micah McFadden
Amtoft : 5/2/2022 12:34 am : link
Saw a few of his games in 2020 when Indiana was play balls out. He was really good in those games!

Klaatu : 5/2/2022 5:35 am : link
Beats me, dude. I watch the highlights, and to my untrained eyes it looks like he's moves pretty well sideline-to-sideline, especially for a guy his size. He looks to have good form in his tackling, and he hits like a Mack truck. So, go figure.
I watch a lot of IU Footbal
DavidinBMNY : 5/2/2022 6:31 am : link
McFadden has been the best player on defense last year.

I think he has a chance to be a valuable player for NYG.
I didn't watch a lot of Indiana football so wasn't up on McFadden
BLUATHRT : 5/2/2022 7:55 am : link
But watched a bit on him this weekend and really liked what I saw. Beavers was my favorite pick outside the first two rounds. He just makes plays, is a leader and will IMO be one of the biggest surprises coming out of this draft.
Not really
pjcas18 : 5/2/2022 8:31 am : link
I am hopeful, but not excited because the odds of a 5th or 6th round pick sticking and being a good player are pretty remote.

Hope it happens, not expecting it to with either of these players.

obviously these numbers are from one well-published story and I'm not being pessimistic just keeping my excitement measured. Those 5th and 6th round LBer numbers are dismal. and this is just to start half their games - that's what defines success, nothing qualitative.

Very excited - they are football players
averagejoe : 5/2/2022 8:41 am : link
The draft now puts too much emphasis on combine numbers. No way Walker goes first based on his production. Both of these guys look like they love to ball. Very excited .
pjcas - only 58% of first round running backs
NYGgolfer : 5/2/2022 8:52 am : link
become consistent starters?

Seems a bit odd. Or is that percentage saying something else.
Yes I am, but that happens for me almost every draft
