"A new GM means changes, and the #Giants are moving on from Dir of College Scouting Chris Pettit & Sr. Personnel Executive Kyle O'Brien. Pettit had been w/team since '05, helping win 2 Super Bowls, while O'Brien, who has served w/#Jaguars, #Patriots, #Lions, arrived last spring."

They didn't waste a second cleaning him out.
Cause for all talk of our interest predraft, we sure seemed to have minimal actual interest.
Greedy side of me wouldnt want him to go!!!
but if its a few more wins, I will take it
+1.
We just focus on our own, like we should.
Good work by Schoen.
Nope that sort of interaction is normal if you watch like Indianapolis Colts YouTube videos. I have a feeling that the “reaches” this year were because Giants had less names on the board than usual as the new philosophies change what type of player you are looking to draft and scouts may not have had good enough reads on some players that would have been on Giants board had they been looking for these traits from the beginning.
The expectations all season included the following:
-Mara would promote Abrams and keep Judge.
-Mara would force an outside GM on Judge for a half measure.
-Mara would force the HC hire on Schoen (Flores).
-Mara would require Schoen to exercise Jones 5th year option.
-Mara would not allow wholesale front office changes.
Well, none of that has happened. Schoen was able to hire Brandon Brown and get rid of Pettit. I don’t see how anyone can be annoyed with the state of the Giants right now. Will it work? I don’t know, but change is happening.

of faith in the scouts led him to draft the players that he, Daboll and/or Brown had met personally? Maybe not, maybe it's more "normal" to have interaction with draft picks, which previous Giants' GMs didn't always seem to have.

This is probably a lot closer to reality than the made for TV drama fans concoct about how it works. You can only project what a team is going to do based on data, and there was no track record to draw on with a Shoen front office.

Expectation was that changes would be coming post-draft. These are the first two.
First thing I thought when I saw this thread.
DRINK UP GENTS!
"Chris Mara and Tim McDonnell have been named as Senior VP and Senior Director respectively of the new Giants Horse Racing Operations. Due to their new responsibilities, Chris and Tim will no longer be able to be involved in the Giants Football Operations. We thank Chris and Tim for their prior efforts and wish them well in this new and exciting endeavor".
Petit was publicly embarrassed and O’Brien was clearly a Judge hire. Seems like easy exits to me. Still good that they did it.
In my mind there is data to support this is getting fixed and data to support it isn’t. I understand hope. You aren’t empathizing with the other side and that’s your prerogative but there are a decent number of intelligent posters that share this view
The only way something happens to him is if he is implicated enough in Flores lawsuit that the Giants would win on a Summary Judgment but for him and they lose big as a result.

Keep in mind that the best time to sack a GM and hire a new one is early-mid season so they have time to set the board. By the time Schoen came in, we were already well into preparing for the draft.
So even if the Giants were still drafting based on previous philosophies (which they were not IMO), you wouldn't see the huge change until next offseason.

No (I don't, I'll let Art speak for himself). Area scouts have been extended or told they'll be back. Schoen expected to bring in colleagues from his previous stops in Buffalo and Miami to replace O'Brien & Pettit.
I don't care if the nephew replaces John Mara as Team President. Just don't want him scouting and picking the players.

That’s all fair, I don’t disagree. But, my point is we would have all signed for this back in December. I haven’t liked Mara’s words either, but I’m pleased with the overhaul we’ve seen. I can’t argue Abrams and the “promotion” he got. He should be gone too no doubt.
