Brian Daboll on @TikiAndTierney, said that he and Joe Schoen never felt like they had to battle with each other during the draft about who to pick. They were in sync. #Giants
Brian Daboll on if he was ever worried about Kayvon Thibodeaux’s fit in the #Giants locker room. In short, no: “I want people in our building to be themselves. He understands he’s a rookie.”
Brian Daboll on Daniel Jones to @TikiAndTierney: “I want him to be himself and not be afraid of consequences, pull the trigger and attack.”
Brian Daboll on Kadarius Toney to @TikiAndTierney: “KT has been great. He’s been here, working. He’s picking up things really well. He’s got a good skill set. He’s good with the ball in his hands … You can tell he’s an instinctive football player.“ #Giants

Daboll on @TikiAndTierney said the first draft with Joe Schoen was smooth because they went over every scenario so they had the questions and answers "before the test."
Daboll said he's been impressed with Daniel Jones' leadership. He wants him to be himself and "not be afraid of consequences" so he can pull the trigger and attack. Daboll wants Jones to have ownership of the offense.
Daboll on what it means to be head coach of the New York Giants: "I don't take it lightly. I understand there are expectations." He reiterates the importance of having people he trusts in the building and letting them do their work.
Daboll said Kadarius Toney has been great. "He's picking up things really well." He's a good space player. He was a QB in high school. "You can tell he's an instinctive football player."
+1. A shell-shocked qb who is too gun-shy to make a mistake is no good to anyone in this league. The game moves too fast for that.
Jones' best game may have been his first vs Tampa when he was too green to have the weight of expectations on him. I think Shurmur and Judge both neutered him a bit too much to curb the turnover issue and he needs to get back to slinging it.
I think this is Jones biggest problem, he heard all the noise about his turnovers and started overthinking everything..
He is not a franchise guy but he can be better and stop playing scared to make a mistake
If the only way he scores points is by also throwing a lot of INTs then you know he's not the guy.
I'm no coach but that type of hesitation sounds like something caused by not trusting the blocking around you.

maybe, there were times he just missed wide open guys, he doesnt rrust what he sees, instead of trusting his reads hr hesitates...

I dont think its not trusting the line, i think its not trusting himself
Hmm, while I don't always agree with your pure dislike of Jones, that video is one that we do see repeated today as well.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but what exactly does that mean?
What things are KT picking up? Is this a reference to the playbook? Are players allowed to work with the team in terms of practicing plays at this time?
Or is the reference to film work or nomenclature or something other than plays and routes?

I’ve posted this before and was rarely commented on, if at all..Here are the FACTS as Pat Kirwan saw it, whether some idiots like it or not. He saw a lot of Duke football (live) when DJ was there. Unimportant what anyone thinks of PK, but he’s had decades of evaluation experience-far more than any of us.
He said, in all the years he has been covering/scouting college players, he never saw a WORSE GROUP of receivers DJ had to work with in the years DJ was at the helm. They couldn’t get open and if they did, they had hands of stone. He said it was uncanny. So any tape of DJ at Duke comes with an absolute disclaimer..
This will be ignored. Again.

That's what it became for sure. I feel the constant fumbling was a product of an incompetent offensive line. Jones was trying to do his job by looking down field to make completions. It's not his fault when there is a jail break on every single play. And the coaching staff provided little support if any with max protect or chips.
Even though I will take my annual sabbatical in-season, I will be back for kudos or lumps when I return..😎😎

The quality of the receiver is irrelevant in the play I posted. The receiver runs an out and is wide open. Absolutely wide open. Jones takes a beat to confirm the receiver is open, and the corner is able to make a play on the ball as a result.
We've seen that play out many times with the Giants.
Given the comments from Daboll I'm not sure Jones makes it to Halloween.

This is the key. On an out pattern for example, you anticipate the throw well before the cut based on how the corner is playing the route. Jones takes and extra half step to his left after not trusting what he's seeing, allowing the DB to recover on the route. That's a college corner. In the NFL you need to see and know what you have based on defensive positioning well in advance and Jones clearly struggles seeing it clearly even after 3 years starting.

It’s rather easy and convenient for any of us to cherry pick the lowlights or highlights of a player to fit our agenda.
As a Giant, he has had no running game (he was drafted after Barkley’s HOF rookie year), no OL and when he’s given us the lead in a bunch of instances, the D, late in the 4th, did their best to shit away the lead he had helped to provide.
When you have little to no time to read the D and to throw you’re not going to have that chance to set up and throw. Thus your throws will oft times be hurried to where you under or overthrow your targets. Sometimes by a lot..
Watch what Daboll, with the tools DJ will have (as referenced above) at his disposal, will do with him. He’s still young (almost 25), works very hard and has the requisite talent imv, that should be utilized well. He doesn’t have to be a superstar, just solid.
We’ll know soon enough. This is his prove it year with no excuses. I think not drafting a QB in any round speaks volumes as to what Daboll and Schoen think they can do with him. DJ has the year to prove them right. Or wrong..

Jones shouldn’t make it to Labor Day as the starter IMO.
It's also easy to make excuses. But I'll admit it's easier to find lowlights because they FAR outweigh anything good. Whatever you think the reasons are, here are incontrovertible facts:
Poor in high school: 0 star walk on at Duke
Poor in college: never made 3rd team All-ACC
Poor in NFL: 12-25 as a starter, 21 of 37 starts with passer rating under 90, 27 of 37 starts with 1 or 0 TD passes
The next time Jones shows he is a good quarterback will be the first.
Let it rip. It's one of the big contrasts to DJ's play under Shurmur & Garrett.
It's just reality.
Let it rip. It's one of the big contrasts to DJ's play under Shurmur & Garrett.
Because letting it rip wasn't really working all that well the majority of his rookie year either.
We've seen a DJ who can let it rip and turn the ball over and a conservative DJ who doesn't turn the ball over but can't score. I don't think BD had magic quarterback dust that's going to change what DJ has been
Everyone has made their position clear over these last 4 months. Why keep rehashing it since we wont know who is right and who is wrong until September-December
Be thankful we didn't reach for a QB that some here wanted at 5 or 7. It could have been far worse.

That said Terps, so bad QBs have looked in the type of situation they are about to put Jones. They are going to create a spread offense, with players that excel in short area separation. They will use a lot of motion to make the reads easier. Neal is going to walk into the league as a top half of the league right tackle. I know you saw him play on the right side in 2020. It was fucking nuts. Barkley is not going to be asked to block.
Daboll/Kafka are not Judge/Garret stupid, it isn't close really. Jones is going to be performing glorified handoffs to playmakers. Terps, I hate what I am going to say but this next prediction is going to come true.
Jones is going to have a good enough year that no one will be able to stop Mara from signing him long term.
Ouch.
My question is this. Why can't the Giants have some moderate level of success with Daniel Jones as QB? If they run the right scheme and take advantage of what he does well (run), why can't we replicate some of the success found by the early version of the McDermott Bills, the early version of the Reid Chiefs (before Allen and Mahomes got there) or the Eagles last year with Hurts?
We need to be able to take a step forward with or without our franchise guy. It's happened a lot across the league.

Josh Allen had how many inaccurate years throwing the football but was able to turn it around and become an elite QB with the right coaches, system and players...
I'm not saying Jones will become Allen or become an elite QB, but to BB '56's point earlier, with Jones getting a better OL in front of them and hopefully a healthy compliment of weapons, better offensive system and coaching why is it so hard to think he may have the chance to do better? Because there's 6 years of tape of him having shit rosters around him? He had Cutcliffe in college, granted, but the shit roster there remained...
If Jones stinks again this year, fine, move on. But if he does well given the above then awesome if we have a young QB on the roster we can move forward with...

You post the same points on every Jones thread, with the same rebuttals, and typically avoid replying to anyone that makes a reasonable point. You really aren't interested in discussing it. You simply want to tell people they are stupid for thinking Jones might see some success under Daboll.
What do you get out of doing this every day? And I say this as someone who would have liked to move on from Jones but realizes we didn't and bitching about it solves nothing.
And the pissing and moaning about the pissing and moaning. Gonna be fun.

Nice, how did you do?
Weekend was good but flew by now that its not freezing cold anymore. Busy with my daughters activities, BBQ's, and yardwork which seems like it will be a weekly occurrence until the fall (not complaining).
All these tower climbs/races benefit a charity or foundation. This one benefitted the 911 first reaponder families..
Sounds like you had a nice weekend..Yard work is excellent exercise
Being so afraid of turnovers, that you can't execute is a waste at the position.
And, he’s also shown zero ability to elevate his play or the play of those around him.
I’ll root for him as long as he’s wearing blue. I also hope the search for his replacement has already begun. If Daboll and Kafka somehow turn him into a QB worth keeping, great problem to worry about next offseason
It does suck there was no Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen type in this years draft, when we had the picks ready to make a move

That's pretty cool, haven't heard of it but i'll look it up and see if there's anything similar in my area. My knee is shot so I can't/shouldn't really do 5k's anymore so something like this could be interesting.
On the charity front this weekend is our annual beach cleanup that I'm hoping we can get to. My daughter is into just about everything outdoors so this is right up her alley. That said she started horse riding lessons which is around the same time and has been staying afterwards to learn how to take care of the horses and animals and its hard/I feel guilty pulling her away from that.

Definitely feels like a lot of those who would support Jones in the FO are gone. Although if Mustang Lover really is Petit, he apparently wanted Willis.
I'm pretty happy with where the Giants are today, the last week has shown that JS is in charge. When the time comes, I believe he'll get to draft his own QB
It just lends the opinion that the program and situation that is run is as important as the player.
I said this in another thread. What if we drafted Josh Allan instead of Barkley? We could be having the same conversation right now that we are having about Jones.

It’s very challenging, but rewarding. They say a half hour of stairclimbing is equivalent to an hour of running..
There are world wide rankings for this. I’ve done the run-ups for the Empire State building twice, I will do the 105 floor WTC/Freedom Tower next month for the second time, I’ve done the Sears/Willis tower twice, the Seattle Space Z eedle twice and the Vegas Stratosphere twice. A bunch of others throughout the country. I started in 2017..It can be brutal, especially if you haven’t trained well enough.
The nicest people I’ve ever met are Stairclimbers, of all ages from all over the world. I’m ranked 4th in the country in the over 70 group. There are a few climbers in their 90s if you can believe that. They’re awesome..
Sounds like your daughter would love this. Lots od climbers in their teens and 20s..
