I'm glad the Knicks finally learned how to stay quiet when things aren't going well - not a peep since the season ended. And the Nets were generous enough to take the slings and arrows of the basketball world for a few weeks.
NBA Draft Lottery is next Tuesday, May 17. Draft is Thursday, June 23. Offseason news will be here before ya know it.
Last year the Knicks reportedly had their eyes on some of the big wings (Murphy/Duarte/etc.) but couldn't/didn't land one. This year there are several expected to go in that 5-10 range - Sharpe, Griffin, Mathurin, Davis, Daniels - does one make it to us, or do we part with an asset to trade up a few spots? I would LOVE an aggressive move for Shaedon Sharpe, who may go as high as fifth. Otherwise I'm hoping Dyson Daniels is on the board for us - spent the year in the G-League and his offense still needs work. He'd be a good "project" pick while we continue to hopefully trim the fat off the roster. Great defender already.
Otherwise all eyes will be on Randle, Brunson and the mess in Utah.
My sentiments exactly. RJ is the best of the Knicks’ young players, but it’s not like he’s a whole tier above them.
Look at the Knicks roster. If you take off a bunch of assets and add Mitchell, is it better than Utah is now with Gobert? Probably not. MAYBE it's the same talent level, but the east is tougher than the West. I think we'd be a bottom tier playoff team with that sort of trade.

You are not done after you get Mitchell..You can still add a 2nd star via free agency, its not like the team would be capped out..
and you can trade Rj, vets for cap filler and some draft picks and still have a good team and cap space

Barrett is up for an extension this summer, but New York could always opt to kick the can down the road and deal with his restricted free agency in 2023-24, and if he’s seeking max-type money, that might be the wiser path. I think he’s a starter-caliber player right now, and maybe on the pathway to something much, much better than that … but he’s neither a freak athlete nor an elite skill guy, so it all seems very speculative.

Bulls get Randle and Fournier
Knicks get Westbrook, 27 1st and 28 1st
I do this if the Picks are unprotected, open a lot of space for next year to build around quick, rj and Obi

So the Lakers get LaVine for Westbrook and 2 firsts 5 years from now? Screw them, I’d rather just have LaVine for Randle and Fournier in that scenario.

this is terrible for Bulls and Knicks - and great for the Lakers, lol.
I think he's going to whoever pays him the most. He's almost 26 and, relatively speaking, hasn't made much money yet. This is his chance to cash in.

Donovan Mitchell’s father, Donovan Mitchell Sr., has worked with the New York Mets organization in the MLB for over two decades now and Mitchell was always around New York City growing up.
Should the opportunity come his way, Donovan Mitchell is not opposed to the idea of playing for the New York Knicks one day, sources say, but he is not the biggest fan of Knicks’ owner James Dolan.
Many around the league share the same feelings as Mitchell in regards to how Dolan runs the Knicks organization and over the years, several other All-Star talents have turned down the opportunity to sign with the Knicks in free agency because of the lack of accountability and willingness to succeed at the top of their franchise.
“Fans, players, league personnel… so many people have been calling for James Dolan to sell the Knicks for years, yet he has been unwilling to do so,” one league source told SI Fastbreak. “So many owners around the league actually care about their team, their success on the floor and their players, yet Dolan is never around and he cares more about his music and band than the Knicks as a whole.”
The Knicks’ owner is the founding member of JD & The Straight Shot, a country blues and roots rock vanity project that was once described by The New York Times as a group of “well-known sidemen backing a karaoke grade singer.”
“When you have All-Stars, some of the best of the best, turning down an offer to play in arguably the greatest basketball arena in the world in Madison Square Garden for one of the league’s most historic franchises because of the team’s owner, that is a major problem not only for the franchise, but for the NBA as a whole,” one NBA agent told SI Fastbreak in regards to the Knicks. “[James] Dolan is not around for the first 80 games of the year and then comes back after touring around with his band thinking he knows what’s going on and that he can magically fix things. It is just a complete joke to be perfectly honest and you almost feel bad for those who have had to try and run this organization under him.”

according to Fischer, i dont see why he would go to Detroit or the Pacers, in both situations he is not the point guard, in that case just stay with Dallas..

all money equal he is going to the place he can be the ppint guard

This is the dumbest thing i have ever read, so Dolan stays away and still spends a ton but he doesnt care?
Dolans issue isnt that he doesnt care, its that he continuously hires the wrong people and cares to much about the media..

IMO, Fournier is not a negative asset. And it's worth the risk to see if Randle can rebuild his value and turn himself back into a positive asset. Or if you're going to trade him, trade him for a similar "change of scenery" type player. I think they're potentially worth more than just cap space in 2023 and 2 picks WAY out in the future.
Brunson, IQ, Fournier, Rose, McBride, Grimes and that doesn't include Rokas who apparently won't be coming next season but also doesn't include their draft picks either.

Exactly. How the fuck are the lakers getting Lavine for chopped liver and onions? Fuck them. Send LAvine this way thx.
They got a little taste of his commitment to winning.
highly doubtful they let Kyrie walk
Is he coming sooner then? Or not at all?

per Donatas Urbonas the Knicks are NOT expected to bring him over "this summer"
Donatas Urbonas: From what I’ve heard regarding the New York Knicks and their plans for Rokas Jokubaitis, there are no intentions yet on bringing him to the team for the upcoming summer.
more combo
I'm steamed
I think he values the Randle contract for the salaries sake, to include in any potential trades. But for me, it comes down to Randle is a distressed asset. You make that trade if you think that the Randle 2 years ago was not a mirage. For me, I think he's probably somewhere between the player last year and 2 years ago, but in the end it doesn't matter. It's 2 picks for 2 players where you're trying to free up time in your rotation.
I don't think you need to care about what happens to Russ. He's firmly in the John Wall category at this point. Buy him out, let him sit on the bench or rot at home, who cares. Next year is another developmental year at this rate.
