Tom Brady and his Super Bowl wins

JohnB : 5/8/2022 4:32 pm
Tom Brady has always taken a relatively small paycheck thus allowing his team to load up on extra talent because they aren’t spending big $$ on the QB. All that extra talent allows Tom Brady to win even more Super Bowl rings. Those rings translates into a lot more money outside of football. So in the end, his is getting a ton of cash.

Why don’t more people see that? Any copy it? And win more rings? In copycat league like the NFL, you’d think somebody would figure it out and do the same thing. Aaron Rodgers is Example #1

Eli never took a discount.

Just sayin. Quarter of a billion dollars later.

TB has a wife that makes 3 times, or at least substantially more than he makes. Makes it a lot easier to "save" the team money.
Pretty simple

Only one QB a year wins the Super Bowl and few have the opportunity, coaching, situation and luck that would lead to multiple wins. Before the cap (when a big QB contract would not hurt the makeup of the team), how many QBs won more than two Super Bowls?
You know who his wife is

right?
Before the cap was pre rule changes
Debaser : 5/8/2022 5:03 pm : link
QB weren’t as important then / teams ran the ball more and defenses could win you championships. I don’t think QB is still as important as many let in anyway despite the rule changes. I mean Jimmy G has played in some big games and Aaron Rodgers hasn’t played in a SB for quite some time now.
Lol

Never fails.

Remember guys - QBs like Montana, Bradshaw, Staubach, Kelly, Elway, etc - not that important… haha
It's a reasonable question
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 5/8/2022 5:50 pm : link
Maximizing contract value is not in most QBs interests in terms of longevity and winning. But pro athletes are competitive people. Making more matters to them even if it is self-destructive.
Montana salary
Debaser : 5/8/2022 6:33 pm : link
In his highest earning year was 4.5 mil in 1990. That is pre salary cap and adjusted for inflation is 9 mil. He was pretty much the best qb in his day and well regarded as the goat back then and still arguably is. That is Tyrod Taylor’s avg salary as back up with incentives which I’m sure Mara hopes he never even sees the field. I really don’t get how we got to this point.

That’s because he wasn’t that important.

You literally have ZERO clue about inflation and costs. None. Zero. Zilch. Stop talking about it.

I'd like to see numbers adjusted for inflation.

It happened. It's not really clear to me why the league determined there was nothing wrong with it.

And Jimmy G will NEVER win a Super Bowl. That the difference between a shitty QB and Aaron Rodgers.

Agree. That never should have been allowed. I will never understand why the league allowed it,

Shitty is an overstatement...shitty QBs don't win a lot of games and go NFC 2/3 full seasons, regardless of roster/coaching.

But the point remains, non-elite QBs will need tons of help to hoist the Lombardi. Either great supporting cast and/or hot streak (i.e. Foles). Gone are the days when a real GOAT (Montana) can watch a bunch of non elite NFC QBs hoist the Lombardi in his place....

Peyton's defense really saved the day against the Panthers.

Not to come off as misogynist, I am generally perturbed, what does Giselle do that's worth a half a billion dollars? There are billions of beautiful women born every day, many would consider her vastly overrated. *shrug* I dont see it.
I imagine most guys realize that while freeing up money can help

the team improve, it's hardly a guarantee of success, so they might as well get theirs. (Not to mention the other sources of income and wealth Brady has that most guys do not).
It's not about his wife's money
arniefez : 5/9/2022 5:43 pm : link
Tom Brady has made plenty of money. If you can't figure out that he's wired up differently from most NFL players I don't know what to tell you. He's got an obsessive desire to set records, not make money. He doesn't seem to be an ego driven person like Aaron Rodgers.

If Brady is on the Tampa roster for week 2 this year he'll earn over 300 million as a NFL QB.

And for the children who don't understand why Joe Montana was paid less than 5 million in the 80s - forget about COL adjustments - there was no free agency. You either signed the contract or you quit.

As did Eli's both times against the Patriots. Every Super Bowl team victory was a team victory.

The difference is Eli played well and was a big part of why they won. Even John Elway's first SB win ; without Terrell Davis would not won . He didn't even throw for 200 yards.
And was it really obvious Jimmy G
Debaser : 5/12/2022 6:18 am : link
would never have won a SB when they were 11-0 a few years ago and playing in the SB? Did you bet the farm on it and become rich?
8-0*
