Cobb spent the season on the practice squad then was brought back on a "Futures" Contract. Wes Martin had spent some time on COVID IR last season, but I think he was back before last season ended. All 4 became expendable with who the Giants drafted so why not open up space for tryouts who potentially impress and by doing it now it gives a few of them a chance to get tryouts elsewhere I do not think Cobb and John have accrued a season yet.
would be our next group to watch as far as cap savings goes. So if the Giants see someone they want to bring on board these guys could be moved to make room.
RE: RE: RE: I have been calling Martin's name for a bit
Giants veteran roster now stands at 65. With the International Exemption, it can be at 91.
So 26 can be added. We know about 11 draft picks and it seems they will be announcing 14 UDFA signings, which would be 25.
That would leave 1 opening. Schoen certainly knew how the Bradberry situation would end. My guess is we will hear soon about a CB signing at or near vet minimum.
Because of COVID and the additional college year allowed, this years draft pool is believed to have more then 200 eligible players then normal, so some Tryout Players could end up forcing others off the roster.
Last weekend was the Chicago Bears rookie mini camp. As camp concluded we learned that they had SIX tryout players make their 90 man roster at the expense of veterans and UFDAs that had just signed days before.
It will be interesting to see what Tryout Players will be attending for the Giants this weekend and what roster tweaks will happen Sunday night.
as he was on the books for $950k and cutting incurs 0 dead money.
Hausemen saves almost $700k
You're not saving anything on these guys, they are bottom of the roster guys that just get replaced by bottom of the roster guys making the same money. Maybe Wes Martin saves a about $200K but thats it.
The Giants have practice tape on these guys, they pretty much know what they can do and cant do. They are going to get rid of as many previous regime guys as they can.
How is he still on the roster? Does cutting him save any money re: the Cap? I cannot imagine him making the team unless they’ve concluded that the prior coaching staff completely blew it with him.
I just looked at vet FA punters on OTC. Hardly inspiring. Add someone to share reps in camp, but I think for an upgrade we’ll have to wait for a team with competition at the spot to cut/trade one of them.
RE: It has to be frustrating for players who were liked enough by the
years are forgettable players playing on forgettable teams. Wasted decade.
Just abysmal when you put it that way. My 7 year old said to me "why do we love the Giants if they always lose every game?". Tough pill to swallow.
If it makes you feel any better, I was the age of your kid in 1978 and probably said something similar to my father. Just a little over 7 years later I was a sophomore in high school celebrating Super Bowl XXI. They'll be back.

Ten years is a long time to be a miserable team. You risk losing a new generation of fans. This is how we got so many damn cowboys fans in the northeast, being irrelevant for long stretches.

He has only experienced the awfulness of the post-superbowl XLVI era.
With online gaming and youtube, I haven't been able to interest him in this team. I mean why should he be interested. This is what people mean when they say the Giants are in danger of losing a generation.

I think he gets a shot, but a long shot to make the roster. If Wink can use his talents in a spot Pass Rush role, then maybe he can make it.

Xman would have been a more likely move than John in my opinion. Did we pick up a bunch of free agent TEs after the draft? If not our TE room seems a little thin. Perhaps John is still injured? Even if not, it is not like he adds stature or any kind of proven talent. I don't think he has ever played a second of live NFL football. However, we are flush with OLBs. We can't keep them all. Someone is going to get cut at the end of camp, so why not just get it over with and cut Xman now? The only way he makes this team is if we have a rash of injuries at his position.

They have nearly destroyed their brand. We talk shit but they got us. They kids in the NYC root for other sports and teams. Giants are a laughingstock of league. This draft appears better but we will get no respect until we EARN it.

Eric has listed CB Al Young and S Brandon Easterling as UDFAs.
There have been postings about both and some postings say UDFA signings and some say just a tryout.
Dan Duggan has reported that Young and Easterling are just tryouts, so I went with 14 total in my post, though Eric has 16.
OK I now agree about Easterling and Young but Eric's listing of UDFA shows 17 players not 16. so that would bring us to 91.

Tell me about it. Growing up in the 70's it was all about the Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders, etc., and that was long before cable (and now the Internet) made it easier to follow teams in other cities. I took a lot of crap for being a Giants fan.
are responsible for me losing my love affair with football. I even stopped playing fantasy football 4 or 5 seasons ago. I am hoping to be won back by this new regime. It just hasnt been fun. I have been apathetic since Shurmur. And I was initially conned by car salesman Joey Jerkoff.

Since the salary cap is not every single player under cotract only the Top 51 salaries is anything really saved?

Martin was #37 so his money is saved.

I believe Martin was the only contract in top 51. His $965K is replaced be Ray Johnson’s $735K. Cap saving of $130K.
Yep..
Pretty sad..

Didn't know you cared about dead money.
The Wilderness Years Redux. Except for 2016 I suppose.

I don't, it just makes even more sense to get rid of a salary that has NO dead money with it.

Washington hasn't won a championship for 30 years.

Sticky this! Or better yet make it part of the BBI mast head.
Did Joe Judge burn all the practice/game film on his way out of the building?

That shows 65

That's our difference of 2.

Also, the Giants could sign one or more tryout players after the mini-camp (i.e., like they did with Victor Cruz).
Exactly.. Smh.. Very concerning. Lost respect for Mara for allowing this to happen.

Dallas has won 56% of its games, made 4 playoff appearances and won 2 playoff games in the last 10 years.
Eagles have won 51% of its games and made 4 playoff appearances, won 4 playoff games and a Super Bowl in the last 10 years
Washington won 41% of its games and has made 3 playoff appearances in the last 10 years
Giants have won 38% of its games and made 1 playoff appearance. We are on our 4th HC and 3rd GM
During that time, the much derided Lions won 41% of their games and made two playoff appearances.
Keep that in perspective while you are making excuses and trying to put a gallon of lipstick on this pig.

Unless you're also going to add that the Giants have the worst record in the NFC over the past 5 years, it feels a bit like polishing a turd.
