Schoen must have fibbed....

Saying he just wanted to sleep/rest after draft.....

He must have been interviewing for awhile...no?
I mentioned him in another thread

I swear I had no idea that the Giants were looking at him. He always impressed me in the YouTube series that the Colts put out each year. Seems very humble/blue collar. The Colts seem to value his opinions a lot as they have drafted a lot of players from his territory. I also heard Nick Cross on NFL Radio talking about how positive of a relationship that he had with Mike Derice leading up to the draft.
Sounds good to me

The Colts certainly have seemed like they know what they're doing in the draft

Schoen hires seem really promising. This guy seems really sharp and a young guy too. Time to get younger and smarter.
We had a couple of more senior Personnel guys depart last week
Jimmy Googs : 5/10/2022 10:36 am : link
but have we also turned over some lower level scouts?

Anybody heard of other departures?
I like
darren in pdx : 5/10/2022 10:43 am : link
that they're taking up-and-comers from multiple organizations. Gets a nice broad view of the league and how other successful teams are operating.

I assume that a lot of these hires must have been discussed early on in Schoen's interview process or soon after, saying when/if I get this job I'd like to have you on-board. Front office turnover doesn't usually happen until after the draft, Brown coming over from the Eagles when he did was a little unusual.
I think the benefit
TrueBlue56 : 5/10/2022 11:21 am : link
Is that schoen was out scouting with a lot of these scouts. He has had conversations and got a feel for how they think and work. He has built relationships all over and its benefitting him now as he adds to his staff.
Any change at all is good news in our scouting dept.

Schoen and his crew are Billy Beane and Peter Brand. Gettleman and his crew are the old scouts sitting around the table talking about how a guy can't hit because he has an ugly girlfriend.

He had the rest of the year for that :)

Colts have been good at drafting and I see value in bringing in people with some different perspectives. Welcome and best of luck.

Peter Brand is actually Paul DePodesta. He didn't want his real name used. He runs the Browns these days, moved to football.
I beleive

he's from Brooklyn. Obviously went to college on Long Island.

Yes.... I thought Schoen was full of it when he said that. Then only a few days later heads started to roll and laughed about that quote at the time.

This is just further proof. As you put it well, he must have had a plan in place already when he was asked that question. I doubt he just hired these new folks sight unseen....
As much as we pile on Mara
Dave on the UWS : 5/10/2022 1:57 pm : link
It appears he’s letting Schoen do what he was hired to do. Cleaning house and updating personnel from OUTSIDE the Giants’ comfort zone is 100% the way to go. Maybe we have turned the corner ans are starting the long slow climb to being relevant again. (Fingers crossed)

Much better book, as is always the case with Michael Lewis.

Alternatively, Tisch made it very clear to Mara after years of futility - and the disaster that was DG - that the new GM would need to have true autonomy to run the team.

Hopefully it stays true and hopefully Tisch keeps that full court press on Mara

Assuming this is 'The Nephew'?

He isn't going anywhere.
Tisch cant do anything. he’s a silent partner inthe football operation
plato : 5/11/2022 1:13 am : link
The contract is very clear. Tisch can reason etc with Mara but he can’t force anything. I think Mara deserves credit for recognizing that the Giants needed a new way and the game is different as is the organization.

We’ll have to wait and see how good Schoen is and all those he has hired. November will tell how far we have moved.
