NFT: Rats Revisited

Grey Pilgrim : 5/11/2022 8:51 am
Well, whichever Rats are left they are as crafty as ever! They only eat bait that's outside the trap.

So, I bought a conventional trap (linked below) yesterday and no luck as of yet.

The next step is poison bait, although I'd prefer not to do that if possible.

Any suggestions would be great.

Amazing how smart these critters are!

Funny, I thought the thread was the Rally Rat from last night's Met

game in Washington where the Rat ran across the outfield and the Mets came back from 2-0 to win 4-2.

A guy in the crowd held up a sign that said Rally Rat.

I thought this thread was in honor of him!

Man, free to kill rats at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet-Cong...Varmint-Cong. So you have to fall back on superior firepower and superior intelligence. And that's all she wrote.

Rally Rat was hilarious. My brother lives in DC and the rats are everywhere. They climb trees next to his house. We were chilling on his deck the other day and one of them just came up to hang out. It wasn't scared of us at all.
If you go the bait station route,
MOOPS : 5/11/2022 11:34 am : link
go to 'domyown' online and get some Protecta EVO Express Bait Stations, as needed, and either Fastrac or Contrac blocks.
They are poisons so you decide if you want to go that route.
Please read the instructions and warnings and you decide if you want to go that route.

but I have no issue killing rodents - if they are doing damage to my property or even just breaching it.

I would look for alternatives first - like you have, but then I don't lose any sleep over it.

I'd try not to use a poison that could impact predators, something quick acting that doesn't longer in the blood if it exists. Bucket of death or pellet gun are my go-to's but I do use poison some times for mice in the house.

Get a night vision camera to see where the rats are evading your defense systems!

We have now reached a complete circle, this was my first response, lol when Grey Pilgrim started the initial thread.
Holy Cow!
Grey Pilgrim : 5/13/2022 3:16 pm : link
This Rat is a Houdini!

It ate all the peanut butter off the conventional trap pedal and the kill bar didn't activate.

At least I know it likes Peanut Butter!

Will try again.
impressive, hard not to trigger the bar

I did.

That's why you need the stakeout
pjcas18 : 5/13/2022 10:33 pm : link
and night vision goggles or at least a trail cam.

this sounds to me like a group operation. I suspect a few of them are holding the bar down while others take turns eating up the peanut butter.

rats are like Velociraptors they just won't be denied - they must be eliminated.
That might be the next step...
Grey Pilgrim : 5/14/2022 10:49 am : link
Going to try this for now...it's got a larger Plastic Pedal which might help.

Try putting sunflower seeds around
BigBlue in Keys : 5/14/2022 11:18 am : link
And on the trap. Crush a few up for scent but they can't help themselves. Stick a few into the peanut butter and WHAM!
