A very good hitting catching prospect for the Royals who's blocked by Perez (team controlled through 2026). They called him up last week after another player went on IL and I believe he's 5/15 thus far.
RE: RE: I really wish Peraza was doing better in AAA
Hard to nitpick since everything is going so well, but IKF's entire purpose is to play good SS! C'mon dude!
He got really lucky that Kirk overslid the bag and Torres bailed him out with the tag earlier in the game also. He also has no pop at all and doesnt walk much. Not too impressed with his overall play

Melendez only has a pair of logged gams in RF in the minors, I believe... he hasn't played there yet with the Royals, but he's only played 5-6 games in the bigs.
Interestingly, he played a small handful of games @ 3B last year in Omaha.
He's a lefty stick, too.
Chapman is going to just have absolutely nothing today and make this interesting, isn't he?
Agree on Gallo, RP. I think he's the guy the Yanks are going to need to figure out an exit strategy for. I feel bad because I know he wants to perform here more than anything, but there's a pretty large sample size of him in the Bronx right now and very little production to show for it.
If this team is serious about winning a championship this year, his spot is the one I think an upgrade could have the biggest impact.
I've mentioned Benintendi as a great trade target and still think he's the best fit in terms of player profile/contract status. A few other guys who could fit the bill...
Tommy Pham
Brian Anderson
Mitch Haniger
If SP becomes a need, CIN is probably the team to call. Castillo and Mahle have essentially the same contract situation (1 year + 1 ARB) and I'm confident Blake could get the most out of either one.
Speaking of trades. There's an article in The Athletic suggesting 5 trades with one of them being Jasson Dominguez and Oswaldo Cabrera for MJ Melendez.
I would do that for sure but I doubt Perez is going to stay at C much longer. More likely they move him to 1B/DH given his age
that guy is going to give me a heart attack, uncomfortable watching that guy, geez. Nice day for Gleyber, would be nice if he gets more consistent with his approach. On the previous pitch prior to the HR, pulled off the ball, O'Neill mentioned it. He needs a consistent approach to get where he wants to be. On to Chitown, they are playing better now.

I'd be a hard no on Melendez. He had a HUGE 2021- hitting over 40 HR. However, when you look at the rest of his career- and this season, it looks like an enormous outlier. The OBP, BABIP, SLG, etc- all had this monster jump that hasn't been sustained.
Stick with what they got. Between the 3 ML ready C, they'll be able to hold the position down for several years.
Chris Woodward says "That Bichette foul would have been out of almost every other ballpark"
Woodward is just a microcosm of the lack of mental toughness with the Rangers - they are so used to losing that they have become professionals at making excuses for failing to win instead of developing a winning attitude.
Miguel Castro seems to be skirting some landmines so far this year.

I'm sure Boone is aware and will try to keep him out of higher leverage spots; there's almost certainly correction coming here and I'd hate to see it cost a game or more.
If there's any positive on Chad Green, he's only allowed 1 HR so far this year and most of his peripherals are respectable/not terrible. But, his K rate is down and his walk rate is up. 2017 Green is long gone.
Ever since Green scrapped his slider and occasional cutter and started using the curveball as his secondary offering, he's been much less effective. I'm surprised they haven't been able to get his slider back. But, over the last 3 years, his FB usage is declining and his CB usage is rising. His CB isn't a great pitch; but his FB used to be a plus pitch and it's not quite there anymore.
But, right now, I think it's clear that King/Holmes/Loaisiga are 3 capable firemen who can and should be used in the highest leverage spots. I wish Chapman saves weren't always such an adventure, but he keeps getting the job done, so. I guess until he doesn't, he's going to be the primary closer.
but Loaisiga just isn’t locating the sonker down like he was last year - I’ll feel much better about our postseason prospects once he gets his act together. Of course, I have confidence that they’ll be able to add a valuable reliever (if not of the reclamation project variety that theyve been so successful with) at the deadline.
Yeah I love the Chappy-Wetteland comp. Spot on. That bastard have us a heart attack right up until that ball settled into Charlie Hayes' glove in '96. These wins are big.
So has El Gary on the Twins. He's been cooked for a few years and curiously still has/had supporters here.
Yup. Luke actually had a good day yesterday and hit his first 2 HR of the season, but that was what prompted me to look at his numbers and they're absolutely ghastly. I'm sure yesterday will help a little, but Voit and Sanchez have combined for a -0.6 fWAR thus far. They're just anchor players. Cashman was 1000% right to deal both guys.
That he even got Justin Lange for Voit was pretty impressive.
We're going to have some tough pitching matchups in Chi-town. Both Cease and Kopech have been disgusting so far. And we're sending Gil out tonight against Cease. But, CHW have been generally disappointing and aren't a great team.
KCR's #2 prospect behind Witt. He's a C.
Actually might not hate that. Seems unlikely, but I wouldn't hate it.

Why would the Royals trade the kid instead of Perez? Isn't Perez like 34?

They have him playing RF I believe.

That's actually me, you can hear me shouting in Manhattan from Carolina.
Ugh. It's Green.
Yep, I had the same thought. Every appearance an adventure.

here we go
Gleyber's Day today.
Onto Chicago.

agreed. Huge win.

Hahahaha. I was young for '96 Wetteland, not sure my heart can take this.
Agreed. Also important for the head to head tiebreaker which cost them last year home field in the WC against Boston

Luke Voit has been really, really bad in SD.
Oh well great win!

IKF is doing fine.
Another series win and sweep!

+1
I got home from work and was looking forward to relaxing with some Yankee baseball. Oh well; glad they won.
I mentioned the Chapman/Wetteland deja vu a few game threads ago. Chapman has been shaky since like June of last year.
more well-rounded this year - ( New Window )

The Yanks can and should win 3 of 4.
That Voit or Gary?

Aaron Hicks. I kinda defended him yesterday, but he's essentially a 1-tool player right now and it's not great.

Holy crap. A one trick pony. I'd rather see Marwin Gonzalez than him.
