The Giants have poured $40 million in dead money into it. Okay, lets call it a green hole, but like its counterpart in space, it is inexorably attracting even more Giants money as we speak.
Everything is amazing about this accomplishment, to me, the most impressive thing is how 100 years later, everything that Einstein proposed is being proven correct.

I too was originally a physics major. Eventually, immaturity, running out of money (and the draft) got in the way, so I enlisted in the Air Force.
When I got out, I worked in the Space Program's Goldstone California Deep Space Network sites for 14 years, in the 70s & 80s. I've remained' a "space junkie" since.
I'm just going to call it the Milky Hole.
