Nashville Recomendations

BigBlue in Keys : 5/12/2022 11:45 pm

Looks like we're starting the year in Nashville which was my main targeted city this year. Wondering what the best area is to stay in and the best area for bars/entertainment. Is there a Giants bar anyone knows of in Nashville? I visited the city 20 years ago and remember a main street that led down to the stadium, which I'm guessing is what they call "downtown"? We had some great steaks at The Stockyard I believe it was called, next to the railroad tracks. Any other attractions to make sure we see? Who else is headed that way? Go Giants!
The bars on Broadway

are nice to hear unknown talent. If you like Country music, the Bluebird Cafe is a great place to hear the top writers perform, if you can get tickets.
Broadway

Is the street you're thinking of. Tootsie's Orchid Lounge has some great acts, if you don't mind a crowd at night. I enjoyed Robert's Western World as well. More old-school, traditional country in there.

My advice, walk down Broadway, go into any bar you hear something you like. It's a phenomenal town.

Martin's BBQ is awesome if you love BBQ.

I absolutely implore you to go to Biscuit Love in the Gulch for breakfast. Might have to wait in line, but it's worth it. GET THE CANDIED BACON, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY!
I can't tell you where to get it

I went in 2019 and couldn't believe how small that "Honky-tonk" (or whatever) area was lol

The area with the Tuckerton Seaport with the stupid decoy duck in the lake is bigger than that stretch ....
Broadway.

Acme Feed Seed & Grill has nice rooftop bar overlooking the Cumberland.
I’ll be in Nashville

For that game.

Hot chicken

Two really good places.
Princes...neighborhood is a bit sketchy.
Hattie B's. The lines can be long but move fast.
The extra hot is very hot.

No might, you will wait. We were in line an hour. The food was excellent though.

It’s Vanderbilt parents weekend on top of everything else. Daughter is at Vandy and I am not going to touch this game. The town will be mobbed. Nashville is a must visit. Lots of fun and great food scene. Broadway is overrated and a shitshow on a Saturday night(that might actually be a good thing).

Echo this. Robert's Western World is one of my favorite places on the planet.
Few more recommendations

Butchertown Hall is a must.

Big Al's Deli is awesome

Pancake Pantry, Biscuit Love, Taco Mama are all good places in Hillsboro Village just south of Vanderbilt and the Medical Center. There are good bars and restaurants along Division street and Broadway just north of Vanderbilt too.

Lots of good hotels downtown and around Vanderbilt and the medical center. The Sonesta hotel near the airport is a short Uber ride from downtown and the stadium as well.

Again, make reservations now even if you are thinking about it. This will be the first post Covid Parents weekend in a while and it should be busy especially with a good match up with Wake Forest.

Big Al's was great! I thought it funny how it was in a normal neighborhood. We had a group of 10 and it was raining so they set us up a table on the porch. Best meal I had while there.
Wow thanks everyone great responses!!

Biscuit love sounds like the place, I'm waking up and drooling for candied bacon now. Man do I hate country music but maybe live will be better, bluegrass I can get into. Anyone know a place that could accommodate 50-100 Giants fans either Fri or Sat night for a meetup? We'll have a big tailgate set up also for anyone who's going to be there, all are welcome. More info on that as we get closer.

It must be a big weekend, hotel prices are starting around $350-400 a night! Good thing the flights were cheap.

Personally, I think Biscuit Love is overrated unless you LOVE biscuits. The one in the Gulch might be busy, but the one surrounded by students and a big residential area in Hillsboro Village is usually empty, while the Pancake Pantry has a line out the door and down the street almost every day. Vanderbilt Parents weekend draws people in (WF @ Vandy Football).
3 Recommendations I send to everyone as must for Nashville
BigBlue2112 : 5/13/2022 9:57 am : link
1.) Get breakfast/coffee at the Frothy Monkey in the 12 south neighborhood. I think we went 4 straight mornings one time. Then go across the street to Five Daughters Bakery and get one of their 100 layer donuts. Think biscuit meets donut.

2.) Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar - part of Printers Alley. What a gem. Not the typical touristy bar. incredible blues music, great atmosphere.

3.) Robert's Western World - a true honky tonk - wont hear any trendy country played there. get the 'Recession Special'. It's $6 and comes with a fried bologna sandwich, chips, a moonpie and an ice cold can of PBR

Try the Station on 12th st. for Bluegrass, it’s the real deal.

I hate country music, too. That's why I stick to the honky tonks. They play the old country, country/blues, and rockabilly..LOTS of rockabilly. I will say this. Of the dozens and dozens of artists and acts I've seen in Nashville, EVERY musician is incredible. I could not believe the level of talent. Just amazing. From the bands that are out at 10 am and the ones headlining at midnight, each is just an incredible musician
Blues and rockabilly are right up my alley!!!
BigBlue in Keys : 5/13/2022 1:27 pm : link
That's a lot more encouraging. We get lots of Nashville artists that come through the Keys and it's always twangy country. Thanks again for all the suggestions gents, keep'em coming.

Check this out....this kid is unbelievable on guitar. He's 20 years old.
Kelly's Heroes (Luke) at Robert's Western World - ( New Window )
Couple of other places that came to mind
allstarjim : 5/13/2022 3:14 pm : link
Puckett's Grocery & Restaurant on Church is fantastic. We went for breakfast but looking at the menu I wished we had time to make it back for dinner, everything looked amazing.

Second on Acme Feed & Seed's rooftop bar, plus you can eat there, decent. Music in there was more rock. I think a lot of people think Nashville is 100% country and bluegrass type of music, but if that's not your style, you will find live rock music in several places. Kid Rock has a new bar on Broadway and I'll bet it's not all twang there.

Acme Feed & Seed was one of the places where we ate in which the band was rock, not country.

And of course, not sure where you're staying, and it's not right in Downtown, and I do recommend you stay there at least one night, but the Gaylord Opryland Hotel is a place you at least must walk through. It's visually spectacular and there's plenty of cool places all over the hotel for a drink, lunch, dinner, whatever you want. Such a cool place. I highly recommend staying there at least one night.

Wife and I stayed there and just Ubered to Broadway each time. No regrets.

Last thing I'll say
allstarjim : 5/13/2022 5:39 pm : link
All respect to AnnapolisMike, I've never been to that pancake place, but I still have dreams about that candied bacon from Biscuit Love.

It is a culinary masterpiece. Instill think about it, nay, yearn longingly for it.
Broadway is a shit show of drunken fuckface assholes
oghwga : 5/13/2022 7:52 pm : link
And drunken fuckface bridesmaids.
Kid Rock's is infamous for the night a drunk swirled his colostomy bag all over everyone. You can walk over the pedestrian bridge to the game which is cool.

It's going to be 12 billion degrees that weekend as well.

There's a Hattie B's in the new Broadway food court and there's always a line. If you have a car the biscuit love in Franklin is always less crowded. It's good but it's a biscuit.

Cronuts from five daughters are worth the trip. Life changing sugar bomb.

The Gaylord is impressive on a hot, cold, or rainy day, fully immersive garden/restaurant experience.
Pancake Pantry.

Right by Vandy. Gotta go there.

Love Rippy's too. Right across the street from Bridgestone Arena. Great spot.

You can't go wrong on Broadway.
I enjoyed Martin's

Kid sure can fly. Sounds like Roberts Western world is on the list, as BB2112 mentioned also. That Bourbon St Blues and Boogie sounds like my type of place too- thanks 2112.

As much as I love breakfast, biscuits, candied bacon, 100 layer donuts and the like in reality we'll be out so late we're not waking up in time for breakfast. Love the discussion though. Big Al's sounds like a good one for us.

When I was there 20 years ago we stayed at the Gaylord Oprey, definitely an awesome spot. For this trip we're staying close to the stadium. But great suggestion.

Still need a large venue that we can bring a big crowd out to for Fri and Sat night Giants fans meet up. That Roberts place doesn't look all that large in the video. Even a big sports bar or something? Or a place to meet on Saturday and watch the college games with our crew. Yeehaw!!

Rippy's is a good spot for a group to hang out.

Plenty of room, decent food, live music at night and a rooftop. Will think of some others but that came to mind.

I went to Bourbon St Blues and Boogie in Printer's Alley, too. It's as described, a GREAT place to see the blues. It's an eclectic place, and somewhat small so make sure you go a little early.

Get the bacon and the Hot chicken and biscuit sandwich. Hot chicken a Nashville thing and if you are there for a few days...you need to wander into one. Hattie B's is pretty good and is the only one I have been too.

I'll say it one more time...make reservations ASAP for dinner if you are there a few nights. 'Butchertown Hall' and 'The Butcher and Bee' I highly recommend. If you are bringing your wife wander around the Gulch and and also Hillsboro Village on 21st street just south of the Vanderbilt Medical Center. Centennial Park just to the West of Vanderbilt has a full scale replica of The Parthenon which is great to see. There a many hotels along West End Ave which cater to Vanderbilt and the medical center are good and put you in a nice part of town.
i'm headed there next week for work

River House is also a great place for a meal. And Bourbon Steak is a must. Great bar, great views, great food.
