I was discussing this with people at work, and am curious to know the opinion of others. Do we really know how good Tristan Wirfs is or is Tom Brady making everyone look good around him? I always remembered offensive line members of the Colts and Patriots receiving big contracts (Nate Solder, Brown..etc) and then not doing well with their other teams. Will we not truly know until Brady retires ?
Step into a well-oiled machine? Look good.
Step into a dysfunctional situation (IE the Giants of the last few years)? Bust.
how he'd do as a LT is anyone's guess since he never played there so it could be a little worse or it could be the same but he is a monster either way.
Nate Solder had one of his best seasons as a pro in New England after his son got sick.
Nate Solder wasn’t the same player because he was getting old and the Giants were a disaster.
Of course he further went into steep decline and played like ass.
Living in MA I watch a lot of Patriots games and Solder was toast. He was a turnstile at the end of his Pats career and everyone who watched the games knew it.
Brady got the ball out quick to neutralize a little bit of just how bad Solder was, but in no way did Brady make Solder look good. It was clear to many people what the Giants were getting with Solder, unfortunately not to Gettleman.

When he first learned his son was sick he struggled big time and then came around to finish with one of his best seasons. It was all down hill from there, understandably. The Giants disaster didn't help him but I would guarantee his son being sick was a huge part of him becoming less of a player.
that's an interesting hypothetical. It's a lofty bar to set for anyone to play at an all pro level very quickly, but Neal does come with experience on the left side while Wirfs has only ever played the right side.
think i'd take the known performer in wirfs for the nyg situation since the open spot is RT. but there would be risk in projecting wirfs to lt if thomas gets hurt again. Sewell was not good as a RT last year but very good when he went back to his natural LT after Decker got hurt.

Also, Soldiers main move was to push the rusher past Brady and Brady would step up into a clean picker because of a strong interior line. The quick release played into it as well.

That's the move accomplished pocket passers make to buy an extra second or two, which is an eternity in the NFL. A feet or two is all that is needed to make the ER loop around in a time consuming path and angle. Joe Montana called it a completely unnatural and counter instinctive move to step into the path of onrushing defensive tackles.
Yep, Giants have two neck albatrosses. Take that Melville.
Let's hope so, but Wirfs has some serious hardware already.
coming out of college, yes. Let's not crown Neal yet. He has some work to do to be on Wirfs' level in the pro's

Yes, coming out of college he's the better prospect. I believe he will be the better pro too.

He was comparing them coming out of college. Isn't that what we do every single year when talking about prospects around draft time?
Weird response, its almost like you want it to not happen.

I didn't read it that way, actually. But I see your point now.
Can't have enough Tackles. So critical...

Nice spin.
You could also just accept your L.
So let it be written, so let it be done.
I recall thinking Wirfs was just a big body.
