The Nature Boy is signing autographs at American Dream Mall tomorrow, part of an fest that includes, among others, Justin Tuck and LT.
My guess is that's how he crossed paths with some of the Giants' rookies outside their hotel on the way to Space Mountain.
What am I missing? Who is the nature boy?
GiantBlue : 5/13/2022 6:40 pm : link
Are these rookies safe going out with this guy/group?

Hate to hear something happening in the middle of the night.

What is going on?????

Says Giants list Wan'Dale as 5'11" now. Maybe a typo.

It wasn't a real practice. It was mostly warm-ups, individual drills, and a few 7-on-7s. There is no contact in the offseason, including all of the OTAs and mini-camp.

the answers to the questions from the press we're great. I can see why he passed his interviews with flying colors.

I think he will be the face of the Giants a year from now when Barkley is gone.
Was Feliciano there today?

There is a picture of 76 on Giants.com…that’s his number.

That dude has a thick lower body.
Thanks Eric, I just watched the video
gersh : 5/13/2022 10:44 pm : link
I have to admit, I had watched several interviews with hime predraft that gave me pause about the guy. Now that he’s drafted, he does seem different. More relaxed, and saying things you want to hear.

I’m not sure why that is. Maybe he really is a genuine person who felt awkward, annoyed, frustrated at the narrative he was forced to rebut. Now that he’s done with that, what seems to be the real guy is so much more likable. All small sample sizes that I’m creating opinions but that video does show a guy who is ready to make his mark and knows that he has to work to do it.

I don't want people to jump all over me, but he has the kind of personality that commands a room. Lawrence Taylor had that kind of personality.

That was OL Nelson Ryan, a tryout player from Virginia.
Thanks!

He looks massive from the picture
I push back against any comparisons to LT the player
gersh : 5/13/2022 10:51 pm : link
But I do see the personality comparison. Like a confidence to just be yourself when the moment is too big for most.

I don't want people to jump all over me, but he has the kind of personality that commands a room. Lawrence Taylor had that kind of personality.

He seemed more like Strahan to me. Honestly, he acts more like the Strahan today than Strahan the rookie. I already see his career after football but it does really appear that he intends to leave a legacy behind him before that day comes. Talking to reporters didn't feel like some chore he had to fulfill. He looked like he was enjoying it. It's not that he tolerates that aspect of the NFL, he revels in it. We can talk about players and their "brand" but a player's "brand" came about for players like him. Many players want to develop one. He already has one.

I get the sense that he is going to be the leader of our defense for a long time. Some leaders are born to lead (LT or Strahan) and some have it thrust upon them (Tuck). This man was born to lead and true, of any kind, is another thing this team has lacked for quite some time.
When you watch the video

You get a better feel for how excited KT is to be a Giant. Definitely think he will be team leader before long
All is good right now. Let’s see what happens when he has a couple of

Tough games and the Giants lose two in a row.

He did come across very well. Good to have some real personalities on this team - not some sociopaths.
ERIC- that's ok, I've been making that

analogy for a while now. Obviously NOT comparing the on field player. He has swagger and attitude (in a positive way). The Giants have been STARVING for that kind of player for such a long time now. It give a team an identity, "when you are playing the Giants.....". He will help as much with that as with his on field play (which has to be really good or it won't carry over).

But I don't think Strahan commanded a room when he was a young player. Maybe my memory is off. Strahan actually played with LT for one season and admitted he was star-struck playing with him.

Thibodeaux seems like the kind of guy who other players at the mini-camp would be kind of star-struck being around...just the way he carries himself.

Perhaps I'm reading way too much into this, but I can't recall a rookie in a long, long time that seemed that comfortable in front of a ton of cameras like that on his first day.
I will say this
Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/14/2022 9:25 am : link
and I've said it before, the worst thing that ever happened to Odell Beckham was one-handed catch (in a game we lost no less). While he remained a heck of a football player, it seemed like football wasn't as important as his image.

I don't care about winning marketing wars. I care about winning football games.

KT has to stay out of that same trap.... the media darling who plays for a loser.
It will be interesting to watch
lono801 : 5/14/2022 9:35 am : link
Or figure out…just how much Strahan is in his ear.

And if he listens.
Eric, I think OBJ tarnished his own image...
Klaatu : 5/14/2022 9:36 am : link
With a pre-playoff boat trip followed by a poor performance in Green Bay. Quite a few fans soured on him after that.

Anyway, what I liked about Thibs was not just his poise, but that his excitement seemed genuine. Still just happy to be here and to do whatever it takes to help the team win. It really resonated with me, and I suspect it will resonate with his teammates, too.

I think the fans who were critical of him at the time chalked that up to immaturity that he would get over (i.e., a learning experience).

The problem is he never seemed to grow up. Showing off making one-handed catches in warm-up drills seemed like a circus routine. Then came stuff like cheap shots during the Panthers game, pissing on the pylon, getting beat up by the kicking net, etc.

IMO, fans didn't really start to "turn on him" until after he started bitching about Eli right after he signed a mega-deal with the Giants.
I don't know
Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/14/2022 9:50 am : link
if you guys had the same interactions I did with non-Giants fans about Beckham. While they admired "the catch," they thought he was more trouble than he was worth.

You brought his name and they would just laugh.
LT vs Strahan vs KT
Dr. D : 5/14/2022 11:41 am : link
I agree w Eric about KT's charisma/presence being similar to LT's.

I think a big part of the difference with rookie Strahan vs. LT and KT is that LT and KT were both high 1st rd picks (if not for his ankle maybe KT would've gone 1 or 2), while Strahan was a 2nd out of a small school (and wasn't a top HS recruit). That's got to affect confidence levels as rookies.

Strahan's charisma took longer to come out (after he became an NFL star).
He's got half his number. Let's hope he's half as good
arniefez : 5/14/2022 11:58 am : link
Thibodeaux could make All Pro and still not be half as good as Lawrence Taylor. I get it the Giants drafted a LB with a big personality. It's inevitable but maybe we can compare him to and hope he's as good as Khalil Mack.

Anytime anyone mentions Thibodeaux in the same sentence with Lawrence Taylor this is my automatic response:

“Yeah, I'm not putting anybody in Lawrence Taylor's class," Belichick said before an extremely pregnant pause. "So ... "You can put everybody down below that," Belichick continued. "With a lot of respect to a lot of good players now, but we're talking about Lawrence Taylor”
No one compared KT with LT

As to the timing you are right. Although, I doubt any of Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela or Sir Winston Churchill join as a rookie and takes on the leadership role with LT still in the building. I can't quite explain it, it's just a different type of leadership.

Not saying one was less effective than the other. Paraphrasing LT to Banks, "What are you gonna do to get on the field". If you know the quote, you know why I'm not repeating it specifically. Strahan, I remember him pumping up the OL, "Believe it and it will happen". LT would challenge and then inspire a player to be great. Strahan would inspire and then challenge a player to be great.

Thibs seems to be more inspire and than challenge to me. The best I can do to explain it.

In the end, who gives a damn. I'll take either one because as I said, this team needs that leader again on defense. Hell, it needs leadership anywhere on the team. 15-20 years from now I hope I'm comparing a player's leadership to Strahan, LT, and/or Thibs.
