College QBs to watch next year Jaren Hall

Archer : 5/13/2022 5:55 pm
I am starting to research some college QBs for next year's draft .

There are the obvious QBs like Young and Stroud. I am interested in ascending players who are not as heralded.

The first QB that I am looking at is Jaren Hall of BYU.

Hall is a great athlete with a strong arm, quick release, and throws from many platforms.

He comes from the BYU west coast offense and is not asked to read defenses. It will be interesting to see how he develops next year.

One thing about Hall that will separate him from other QBs is his speed. He is Michael Vick fast. On one play against Baylor, Hall out ran Kalon Barnes, who ran a 4.23 at the combine, to the end zone.

Not a BIG Jaren fan, at least so far, but..

The great part of next years draft is that there are a lot of QBs that could be a 1st round prospect should the Giants need one (better odds we'll need).

Jaren is intriguing, Armstrong, Hartman, Bachmeier, Hooker, McCall, Van Dyke, Jefferson, not sure they're all eligible, but all of them have some positives (in no particular order).
He's a 2016 recruit...

How old is he? 24?

I'm guessing his did mission work...?
You put him on Ohio State or Alabama,

And he would be in consideration for the #1 pick next year.

I second this. We might not get a shot at the top two, but I definitely love what Van Dyke brings, he can be special imho

Yes, he turned 24 in March, so he'll be 25 on draft day. Mission plus two redshirt years and a lot of baseball contributed to his over-age status. He's actually a year and a half older than Zach Wilson, who mostly kept Hall on the bench until 2021.

Age is not a big concern in itself, but it does raise the question of how much room he has for growth. On the other hand, Hall hasn't played a ton of football, so maybe he has more upside than a typical 24-year-old

I don't see a Michael Vick comp, really, despite the similarities in speed and stature. Vick was 20 when Atlanta drafted him. He had an insane arm, and no clue what he was doing. Hall looks headier (not that "Headier than Michael Vick" is a big compliment), and less gifted.
Not big enough.

I think we should stop trying to fall in love with small QBs. With the exception of Murray, who hasn't won anything, the top QBs are 6'3"-6'5" 220-240, Hall is 6'1 200 maybe. Same size as 3rd rounder Matt Corral who ppl tried to convince me was worthy of a top 10 bc of his "generational arm".

The first thing I remember Schoen saying about DJ was his size. Jurkovec, Levis, maybe even Richardson but I can't picture then falling in love with a 200lb mobile QB.

Should be fun to watch at BYU though.
I like Will Levis at this point

but next years draft could be ridiculous foe the QB position.
This could be another big draft for QBs. In the Giants position, it

Would almost be worthwhile to hire a “QB finder” scout who does nothing for a year except look at QBs. I’m a Jones fan still, but odds are pretty good that they are still going to be looking for a franchise QB in 2023. They certainly have thrown Mara/Tisch money at more valueless personnel hires.

Looking forward to more installments on college QBs.
Hall

Reading about Hall he ran a 4.39 forty this offseason
Hall was quoted that he can run better as he did not prepare for the run.

That is fast.
Most of these QBs that put up impressive

run numbers are really RBs who can throw it a bit. NO CHANCE Schoen and Daboll go that direction. Just because fans get enamored with guys like Willis doesn't mean our braintrust will. DJ most likely, isn't the guy. But someone built like him, with the ability to run, who is a throw first guy, with arm talent and intangibles is what they would be looking for. Now, does any of the guys from next year "potentially" fit that description?

Agree, unless the system has a history of producing good college QBs that don't translate. ie Steve Spurrier.
I've seen conflicting reports about his age
Jay on the Island : 5/14/2022 9:25 pm : link
One has him born in 1998. Another has him born in January 2000. If he's 24-25 next season then the Giants should pass in round 1.

Thanks, Blogger.

Worth keeping an eye on for sure.

How old is he? Many times they are 2-4 years older than a lot of guys they play against. To me that's always a bit of a concern. A 24 year old should be a lot better than guys 18-21. Mentally and physically.
