I find it interesting that Schoen has hired two scouts first, but the big fish remains...Director of College Scouting (Pettit's old position).
It seems they have the pro side set with Chris Rossetti.
There has been a ton of movement in the scouting community this offseason. Clock is ticking. I'm dying to know who Schoen has his eyes on.
None, but it's not my area of expertise.
But it's the big one, other than GM, in my opinion...unless Schoen has a different structure in mind. His background is scouting so maybe the Director of College Scouting would have less authority here.
But I find it interesting that this hire hasn't (1) already happened, and (2) was before the other two scouts were hired.
I also am a bit surprised no scouts have been fired.
These moves will largely determine the quality of the players we acquire moving forward.
I second.

Anyone second the motion?

Screw that. If Sy gets that gig we lose him on BBI. He’s too valuable here. He can’t have that job. Sorry.
This thread aged really well, huh...

Chris Mara still heads the department.
And you are one of the most tedious posters on this site.
Just having a little fun with an I told you so moment. Don't get sore just because you got caught up in it too...
Cody Rager- he is with the Saints now, but his time in Miami crossed with Schoen
Dwaune Jones- he has only been with the Falcons 18 months as Asst Dir of College Scouting, but he spent several years with the Ravens learning under great leadership there and prior to that was a Saints scout.
Aaron Hineline- He is Asst Dir of College Scouting with Seattle. In March of each year Neil Stratton at Inside the League presents awards to what he believes are the 10 best at their jobs throughout NFL Scouting Departments. Hineline received one of the awards this year.
Tariq Ahmad- with the 49ers. Ahmad also won a Stratton award this season and what's interesting is that Ahmad was raised in NJ and actually worked years ago for Rutgers. Schoen has already picked some hires with local roots. Ahmad was recently promoted from Asst Dir to Director, so I can't imagine his interest in a lateral move.
Speaks well to the staff Schoen is building.

The #Bills are hiring Alonzo Dotson as a national scout, per source. Dotson – a former Oklahoma defensive lineman and nephew of Santana Dotson – most recently was the #Jets’ southeast area scout. A rising name in the scouting ranks.

Dotson was voted one of the 10 best scouts in the AFC by #NFL scouts in September '21. Accepted a plaque for this honor (inaugural BART List) at the 2022 ITL Combine Seminar.

Just my opinion. Perhaps they feel that the problem was with the decision makers and the poor strategy they were following rather than the quality of information being given to them. A bad gm and front office doesn't necessarily mean that the scouts are also bad.
Also consider the fact that the new front office would know from the scouts at their prior jobs if the current set of Giants scouts are respected by their peers.
And finally, the front office had a chance to compare the information given to them by the Giants scouts with information given to them by their prior teams' scouts.
How about Charles Way? Smart, articulate played at a high level. He should certainly know how to access talent.
My 2 cents

the guys in the Personnel and Scouting departments when we were certain those groups reported to Chris Mara, the nefarious owner with the bad title and not the GM?
