The #Giants have agreed to terms with No. 5 pick Kayvon Thibodeaux and No. 7 pick Evan Neal and both will sign after practice today, per source.

Both have fifth-year options for the team.
So maybe I'm overthinking this but there seems to be some relative unfairness in these contracts. The only reason Evan Neal went 7th and not 5th was because there were two top O-linemen available at 5 but only one top pass rusher. I bet if the Giants only had the #5 pick they would have chosen him. But because of how the board came out Neal gets a smaller contract.

Would be difficult to create a draft slot system that takes into account the context of each indivdual draft situation.
in these rookie contracts is guaranteed. A very high %.
Curious to see how much of the money for KT and EN is guaranteed.

Both contracts for Thibodeaux and Neal are fully guaranteed, and both have fifth-year options that are fully guaranteed, as per the CBA and the rookie wage scale.
So two Giants cornerstones are in the fold and officially on the books.

Yeah, I get it and I'm not going to cry for Neal's millions but I feel he got gipped a little here.
both contracts are 100% guaranteed for 4 years with a 5th year option. The signing bonuses are paid immediately and spread evenly across the 4 years to manipulate the cap hits.
let me speak for everyone. Thank you for everything you contribute to BBI. It's really appreciated.
I am going to be really pissed off if things go south with Joe Schoen. The Giants have not shown this kind of organizational competence since the early 1980s IMO. He seems to have everyone on the same page from ownership on down and has energized everything around the Giants too. Right now with a 0-0 record it's pleasure to listen to him speak.
in signing contracts from what I remember reading in years past. If a player were to be cut and signed with another team how much of the salary would reduce the original salary.

It doesn't matter the rookie contracts are slotted by draft position. No real negotiating like in the past.
I feel bad about the payment to these multimillionaires
$6.7 million dollar difference from being taken #5 to # 7. And $ 5 million of that is the signing bonus.
It kind of sucks for EN that the draft fell the way it did. Had there been two premium edge guys there at #5 but only Neal at OT, Neal gets the bigger contract and the Giants take whichever remaining edge at #7.
It'll sort itself out over time, certainly. A great player will make much more in their 2nd (and potentially 3rd) contract(s) that make this a footnote. But still, EN gets less money right now because of how the draft fell.

I'm going to lean into my BBI grammar nerd persona here. It's "gypped" not "gipped" because it's a reference to gypsies.
For just a difference of 2 draft slots. Time to get a #5 and a #70 jersey.
I wouldn't get a #70 just yet. Have to imagine EN is going to angle for #73 (albeit less publicly than Kayvon did with #5), and only has a journeyman swing OT to negotiate with.
I'd expect that they'll both wear their college numbers.
financially speaking, is edge rushers are valued higher in the pay scale generally speaking. The great news is that both are signed quickly, which has not always been done here with first round picks. That means they won't miss time moving forward.
BTW, Thibodeaux looks light talking to the media without pads on, how much does he weigh? I would guess about 250, but he looks light to me.

Why?
Also, ILB Micah McFadden (5th round), NT D.J. Davidson (5th round), OG Marcus McKethan (5th round), and ILB Darrian Beavers (6th round) already signed.

Based on what I saw yesterday it looks like he will be our starting QB.
They are. The only hold ups these days are the structure, not the contact value. So, how the money is dispensed and when and under what circumstances.
