Give them another 6 weeks with consistent playing time. If they are both still doing nothing, then I think Mets have to start thinking trade for a bat.
But Shreve missed his spot on the HR by 1.5 feet. Was supposed to be outside corner and he threw it inside corner to a HR hitter when the last thing you wanted was a HR
You just cannot do that. If you miss, you miss away and walk him
He pitched well out of the pen in 2020 (2.62 ERA). He went to pieces when the "braintrust" moved him into the starting rotation.
Has not been the same since then. Too bad, because he was a weapon before that.
as much as i disliked BVW i blame that one on stroman (which i guess is in part the fault of BVW by proxy). real crappy move to leave his teammates high and dry with that last second opt out.
He's just not hitting. I don't know how long you can give him. I get the excuses of he doesn't have enough at bats, but at some point....he does. It's not really an excuse that's holding up for me, he's not some 2nd year player trying to find himself.

This year. I think if we judged his season just based on my heart rate during his save ops this year it’d be down at least 60% compared to the last 2. My doc says thanks

Lugo is a different Lugo 1st half of the season compared to 2nd half. I'm willing to bet he will be in his groove summer time.

I hope you're right. Having good Lugo with good Diaz would be a huge factor for continuing the Mets run to the playoffs.
I don’t know why the didn't resign rob Gsellman. He was hurt a lot and was terrible for a few years but last year he had 3.77 era. That’s not bad at all for a mid reliever.
Because he’s just not very good. He only able to get a minor league deal from the Cubs after he was non-tendered but the Mets and was only recently called up…and he’s unsurprisingly struggled since his call-up.
He’s probably depressed now that he’s not on the same team as his BFF Noah.
he plays the heel but if the M's sell Winker would be a great add
for the DH spot at the deadline. He'd be perfect hitting 5th behind Alonso and the mets could pretty easily hide him vs. lefties. He isn't playing that well on the season either and only has 1 year left after this one, if that's still the case in a couple months he'd be a nice buy low.
would think he will bring back a prospect in the PCA-realm if the market is as strong as it was last year at the deadline. he's been the best offensive catcher in the game so far this year.

Is he a pure rental? Do the Cubs have a nice bullpen arm they can throw in? Would be really hard to give up Vientos/Baty in that type of deal, but not sure how else we’d win a bidding war.
the qualifying offer if it remains in place right?
if he pitches well there's no way they let him walk. the entire BP is basically UFAs (May, Lugo, Ottavino, Williams) in the offseason so there will be $ available.
they have a bunch of extension decisions to make with him, Bassitt, Nimmo, and JDG if he opts out but i dont think anyone they want to keep will get away. nimmo is the guy who seems most likely to test waters and i don't think they are going to match a big deal for him if he gets it (150m+).

with cohen anyone can be brought back, but McCann would still be on the books this offseason they'd be looking at probably $100m combined on 2 catchers on multi-year deals with Alvarez on their heels.
i think the $ is better allocated towards the pitching staff and continuing to try to get by with placeholders at C until Alvarez is ready. It sounds like McCann should be back by the deadline so if anything id try to grab another vet backup on the cheap now just as insurance over the next couple months. a chirinos type. but probably better to give nido/mazeika a week or two to see if it's even an upgrade.

So he belongs in the minors ? Why do he can set records as being the best in minor league baseball?
He pitched 5 games in triple A ; started 4 of them; and had a 1.17 ERA.
Is Trevor Williams really that much better than him. He does fill the token long hair but at least with gsellman you get the vetoing the band back together when deform comes back. Plus I think gsellman has greater upside potential

The issue with Gsellman is that he didn’t generate a lot of swing and miss. When the ball is put in play bad things can happen.

Mets say they have placed Tylor Megill on the IL with right lat inflammation. He will undergo an MRI.
I was wondering when the injury report was going to come out on Megill after his poor outing.
Hopefully he’s fine but I feel like every time a pitcher has a “out of character” poor outing there must be some injury excuse and they go for a bunch of tests. I’m pretty sure I heard Ronnie say in the past that pitchers arms are ALWAYS inflamed/in pain after starts.
But like I said, hopefully he’s fine and can get back on track.

I never said that he belongs in the minors. But there is a reason he could only get a minor league deal. My point is that Gselman-type pitchers are a dime a dozen. He just hasn’t been very good at the pro level.

He’s been hurt a lot and played bad in recent years ; the point you’re making about no one signing him isn’t a relevant one considering his injuries and otherwise bad condition play in recent years. Having an under 4 ERA is pretty darn good at the major league level

That was his first sub 4 since 2016. 5.19, 4.28, 4.66, and 9.64 from 2017-2020.

Don’t know. There’s not likely to be anyone available this early in the season and Dom isn’t netting us anything right now.
Hopefully, they can right the ship. They aren’t going to win every single series this year but some cracks are starting to show and we’ve seen this movie many times as a Met fan.
The pitching (starters and relievers) have been scuffling a bit and the offense hasn’t been lights out either. And the Braves/Phillies will be around all season.
This Mariners team has a lot of bark with fans for a team that
as Mets fans, we are prepared for and expecting the worst to start happening.
also, Nimmo is arguably the best player on the team, and he's a FA after the season, I know he has an injury history but a Steve Cohen owned team can't be scared of injuries, they need to lock up Nimmo.
Also, pretty shitty performance by Lugo and Shreve.
Lugo and Shreve both falling behind.

That last pitch was something. 100 mph fastball sweeping across the plate. Winker had to swing because it was a strike.

Catcher is such a black hole in this lineup that adding a guy who can hit .280 with 20 HRs improves the offense dramatically
Then add JD Martinez for JD Davis and Holdermann.

Difference is an experienced manager and veteran presence that wasn't there last time. Hopefully it can avoid the worst.
And maybe Alvarez is turning the corner on his slump - probably a good thing for him to deal with some adversity early in his pro career.

Mets top prospect Francisco Álvarez continued good stretch for Double-A Binghamton today with two hits.
The catcher is 8-for-19 with two doubles and three walks in his last five games.
