Ignoring the QB position. What players in NFL history, not just validated by combine numbers, could you tell were just terrible athletes, but ended up being really solid players.
For me, at least on the Giants, players like David Diehl stand out. He was a guy that got by on guts, guile, and smarts, but he was not someone who should have sniffed the pro bowl, but I believe he made it twice.
Brady got drafted by Expos in the MLB draft. He was a very good catcher who could hit - FWIW.
Evidently, his club foot kicking shoe offered no advantage to him relative to other kickers. Not certain I believe that, but assuming it to be true, nailing a 63 yarder off a grass field, at sea level, with a two-step straight-on approach, is one of the most ridiculous athletic achievements ever. It took 28 years for someone kicking in Denver to tie it, and 43 years for someone kicking in Denver to beat it.
