The Browns dumped him in mid-season because he cost them games. In one case he fumbled the snap and was tackled without getting any kind of a kick away. And there were reports of other issues with him.
He has a big leg but relatively little American football experience, seems to lack touch on his kicks, and apparently has no directional kicking skills at all. I don't know how he is as a holder, but fumbling the snap in punt formation does not leave a good impression of ability to do that job well. (Holding should probably be done by a QB anyway because it keeps the fake in order, and with some degree of confidence that it can be successful.)
I am really surprised that Schoen did not draft or sign a rookie punter to compete with him in camp. The best he did was bring one punter to try out at mini-camp and they did not sign him.
Oh, and we don't want Buffalo's current punter either.
I’m not sold on Gillan but there will be a few punters cut at the end of camp that will be upgrades over Dixon. Keep an eye on Baltimore and Tampa Bay who just drafted punters early.
but probably not our biggest issue in the grand scheme of things. Remember Dixon was also the holder for Gano and so that position is critical too. Maybe one of the back up QBs can be a holder this year too?!

but pretty sure they will end up claiming/signing buffalo's punter when he gets cut for the rookie.

You never know when he is going to shank one and he does it with some frequency. He's more of a liability that I'd want on my team.

So why did we get him?
