How could anyone have been talking about trading Panarin? He had such a bad series. He played so tentative. But, even if he never scores that winner, you don't trade him.
What a game, what a series! Breadman delivers…and Mika the unsung hero on the game winning power play going 3 for 3 on face offs in the zone
That’s how we get it done boys!
I thought the same thing about those face offs. As much as I killed him earlier in the series about it, he really came up big there and in every way the past two games.
Ken Morrow scored from a similar place on the ice for the Islanders in Game 5 OT (when 1st rounds were 5 games) through a maze of players in front - Hanlon never saw it. Took 38 years to even that up. Panarin through three players - Jarry never saw it

Just winner and leader shit.
My son and I were just saying the same. The first half of the series, they were getting killed on faceoffs. Mika was excellent tonight on the faceoffs.
Better get ready for Carolina. Rangers were dominated in 4 games this year vs Carolina and were lucky to win one.
Sullivan deployed pinching defenseman this series and the Rangers had fits with it and Carolina suffocated the Rangers in the neutral zone in each game this year.
Definitely looking at going to game 1 or game 2 in Raleigh.
8 year old me hated Glen Hanlon forever for that goal
But all the hate towards Miller and Panarin in this thread. Geez. Miller made a huge play to get the PP. the kid has tremendous talent. And Panarin has had a very bad series. But trading him for depth pieces is really silly. And he has NMC in his contract
Well, I know the stance I took that has built over all 7 games,
but I would be happy to be wrong if Panarin has awakened from his slumber and this catapults him against the Canes.
Eddie Olczksmkskamk is really such an idiot, saying the Canes have a rest advantage because the Rangers played 7 (my god they played game 7 YESTERDAY) and then immediately talks about the Penguins future as opposed to the Rangers putting it together tonight and Panarin winning after playing like shit.

Mika was nowhere to be found early in the series, but man did he come on strong. And I was one of many wondering what was wrong with Shesterkin after games 3 and 4, but he played his ass off tonight.
Kinda one of those burn the tape series…lot of ugly stretches, and this team still has its flaws, but great seeing our big guns come through when it counted most
Taking out a ball buster of a Penguins team, with Crosby bringing his A game most of the series, is a big step for this squad
Even without Crosby, I thought the Penguins would win
They still have a long, long way to go, but maybe this year will be different. Maybe the Rangers will win the Stanley Cup and do it with home grown talent - unlike '94.
I don't know if it was a goal or not but holy shit that Guentzel goal was pretty awesome. I have never seen a player kick the puck in the air to their stick before and that kind of looked intentional.
Igor was the difference. And I don't think Jarry played bad - starting him was the right move, but this is the Igor most of you watched all year.
someone (mfsd?) mentioned the key to me, Mika on the dots on the PP in OT. 3 for 3. Losing a faceoff changes everything on the PP - it forces you to retrieve the puck, takes time off the clock, and you need to make a controlled zone entry - which is why when someone said analytics people don't care about faceoffs i said they're crazy.
and get off Trouba anakim - he is the best D on the team, not by a little, by a lot and you're not here without him.
he made two bad plays this series - one the pass picked off by Rodrigues (?) last game for the shorty and a high stick, not saying he was perfect otherwise, but he covers up more than you realize and his hit on Crosby game 5 is probably why the Rangers are moving on.
lastly, I may be alone here but I think the Rangers beat the canes. The best thing about the Canes is they are deep but I don't think hugely talented, they have a few players who can score (Svechnikov, Aho, Necas, Teravainen) but in net I don't love Raanta or Kotchetkov.
In net I give the Rangers the strong advantage and that's where it starts in the playoffs.
then I like the Rangers top 9 over the Hurricanes top 9. 4th line though I think the Canes have a distinct advantage. D depth favors the Canes, but Trouba would be a top pair D for them too.
But of all the players with big contracts to consider trading, in terms of return and cap relief, Panarin is highest on my list....provided this isn't him shaking off the cobb webs and on the verge of erupting going forward. Again, I love the player and maybe I was too declarative, but in terms of what we could get back, salary relief and interested parties....I would listen.
That said, I hope Bread buries 5 in the next series and is Ranger for life because he got us on the precipice of the Finals.
Panarin, I doubt anyone is taking that contract ($11.6M per year the next 4 seasons) given that the cap has remained pretty flat.
That is the 2nd highest cap hit in the league, after only McDavid.
Plus, Panarin has a NMC and when he was a free agent he was allegedly only or primarily interested in NY or FL (?)
Oh Im not saying they should actively be shopping him for sure. I also didnt realize his NMC was that strict. Just saying if someone asked about him, I would be more receptive than a guy like Trouba or even Kreider.
Im moving on, because I dont think people were ready to even consider the idea despite our finances being tight and us having three very productive players in these playoffs who play on the top 2 lines who are not signed next year.
CAR should be favored but the resignation negativity of the NYR fan base is a bit annoying.
I watched most of the Eastern games in round one and there are no unconquerable teams.
Thing is, as much as I have that the Rangers have not played their best hockey this past series, I am hopeful that the keep unwrapping other levels of their game to stun opponents.
Two things....they really need to stop coughing up the puck in the offensive zone by the blue lime and they absolutely need to figure out a more efficient way of clearing their own zone. Both were killers against the Pens and the Canes will make us pay even more.
I didnt even men into the dumb penaltie that they took.
With every game, is another chance to learn how to play in the playoffs. Canes are my pick to win the Cup. But the Rangers can beat anybody if they can just be more crisp with the puck.
Pens & ESPN gotta lot of nerve whining about some helmet rule
after they got damn near every fucking call and review going their way.
Fucking bitch asses. Fuck them and their loser fans. Go home.
It's ridiculous. If Toronto doesn't take away the goal in game 1 or sees an obvious high stick tonight, nobody is talking about a helmet. By my count, 5 calls went to Toronto this series and all went in favor of the Pens. The only legitimate call was the goal tonight that clearly crossed the line
1. who cares about the regular season. they had 3 more wins over an 82-game season.
2. Rangers have the better goalie (even if Andersen comes back) by a lot
3. Rangers have the better top 9 and elite talent. CAR is deeper, I give you that, but the Rangers 3rd line only played around 11 min tonight, in a game 7, so 4th line, where IMO CAR has a distinct advantage, will play figure 5-6 minutes.
4. CAR D are overrated, I think they get exposed this series. BOS is very top heavy so didn't test their D depth.
Sure we're familiar with Fast, Stepan, Smith, DeAngelo, Skjei and Raanta, but they're also familiar with us. Speaking of Raanta, it'll be interesting to see what Rod the Bod does now that Freddy Andersen is healthy. Raanta has had an excellent playoffs, but Andersen was one of the top goalies during the regular season.
One thing that we will have in this series that we didn't really have in Pittsburgh: LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of fans.
RE: Pens & ESPN gotta lot of nerve whining about some helmet rule

The worst part, is they are blaming the rule which they obviously werent responsible enough to know that dipshit could have picked up his helmet and played with it UNSTRAPPED.
Im not even going to bother with the accusations by Sullivan and that neanderthal, frat boy meathead Bissonette (still licking his wounds after his Leafs were eliminated....again) claiming that the helmet was pulled off INTENTIONALLY. Laf was being driven to the back of the net, reached out and grabbed the player pushing him and in the fall to the ice, the helmet came off and Petterson skated away.
How about know the rules you turds? I guess the coverage is going to completely ignore that the puck was contacted above the cross bar on Guentzel's goal and revel in the hackt sack instead of the bad call that it was.
Ugh....fuck Pittsburgh and that dirt bag fan base. Philly fans hate the Pens more than the Rangers and that says something.
Since it was called goal by refs that would be tough to overturn
However that was an incredible play by Guentzel. Never saw that before. He had a great series. I had no idea he was that good. And he plays a tough gritty game. Very impressive

The overturn in game one was much much more subjective than the Guentzel goal in my opinion, and they took about 30 seconds to definitively overturn that one. Id feel differently if game one didnt happen. There were a couple angles that showed the puck distinctly above the bar when Guentzel hit it.
I am just tankful we didnt lose because of those 2 calls.

If you believe in Corsi and fenwick and math in general Carolina is significantly better. They’re also more playoff tested.
They’ve also got 5 ex-rangers and we’ve had to endure hell with all the ex guys hoisting cups or ending our season (even brassard) in recent years
Igor will need to be the Oettinger if this round for the rangers to advance.
their play in terms of clearing out of their own end (I honestly think they need to try and go through the middle more frequently because Pitt was all over us when we tried to go the safe route along the boards), not make such horrendous turnovers at the offensive and get SOMETHI G from Panarin and Strome, that we can beat the Canes. Its asking a lot of the youngsters to maintain this intensity for an even tougher 2nd round opponent, but if they can just keep building and our scoring wakes up, I think we have the speed and physicality to beat the Canes.
Again, this Canes team is my pick to win the Cup, but their aggressive style can turn into a weakness and we certainly have some guns to take advantage.
Yes, I also said, we had them where we wanted them. Losing and then winning
That’s how we get it done boys!
I thought the same thing about those face offs. As much as I killed him earlier in the series about it, he really came up big there and in every way the past two games.

Oh well.
True. On the other hand, the Rangers dominated the Penguins and then barely escaped this series.
This is invaluable. Don’t care how they got it done, just a huge moment for the rangers. Making their bones.
Happy for Mika and panarin. Panarin needed that goal as much as anyone and Mika was an assassin the last few games. Good for them.
Rangers definitely don’t quit.
We get more playoff hockey!
Breadman!!!!!
Zibanijed has upped his game since game 5
Fuck you, Penguins!

lol, probably easier for me, not being a fan. if they lose it's no heartbreak for me.
I'm just grateful for the game 7 and OT.
I just hate CAR, it's a weird rivalry, but MTL and CAR hate each other.

Same here. My neighbors told me to keep it down. LOL

1. They were the superior regular season team and outplayed the Rangers in each match.
2. The Hurricanes defense is elite (I credit coaching/structure as much as the players).
3. They're deeper and IMV have a better bottom six.

Goodnight guys.

No. They lost in 5 in 79, 80, 86, 90, 96, 08, 11
