The Giants new Smurf WR is more Swiss Army Knife than a conventional slot WR. I believe it has been both speculated and acknowledged that the Giants see him playing multiple roles in their offense despite his diminutive size.
It's a little surprising given his size that he's been as effective as he was in school as a RB. But his skills are real, and he's both tough and very strong for his size. Though it's not likely he's going to make his living running between the tackles.
But why should he? Motion him out, let him run a sweep, etc. There his God-given abilities can shine. And it is while considering him running a sweep that this somewhat comical picture comes to mind, imagine him behind Neal; Neal who is almost a foot taller and 150 pounds or so bigger. Will defenders even be able to find him? ;-)
There are plenty of touches available for receivers on this team. I think by season's end Golladay, Toney, and Robinson are the primary starters and the key to a more vertical pass game.
Robinson has legit NFL route running skills and speed. I think he's a huge downfield threat.

Agreed, he seems like a much more polished receiving product than Toney. I don’t think he’s a gadget guy by any means.
If so give it Wan'Dale.

I think it's more likely Toney and Barkley get the extended hand offs in the pass game and quick hits.

There was a highlight video of his time at Kentucky posted draft night. I didn't know anything about him, and based on the commentary I wasn't expecting him to look so polished. I watched that and was really impressed.
My first thought was -- Shepard's in trouble.
Barkley is best outside, not between the tackles. Wan'Dale will probably be used on Jet Sweeps (and fakes) as well as reverses (and fakes). Defenses will need to account for him.
Unfortunately Barkley hasn’t looked all that great running between the tackles. I have a feeling Antonio Williams and/or Corbin are going to be handling a lot of those reps.
Some may look at the depth chart and suggest Breida is the #2, but he’s essentially a Barkley injury handcuff as his game is also pass catching and running outside. Not saying he’s as good as Barkley, but he’s had his moments, particularly with the 49ers. Like Barkley, Breida has also been snake bitten with injuries throughout his career.
Steve Smith was injured most of his rookie year and played in 5 games during the regular season, had eight catchers for 63 yards. Is that the type of production you want??
I’d like to see something more than that
I got it Bill. After everyone commented, I thought I was the thickhead.

sarcasm alert on Barkley between the tackles

It's not anyone's fault, sarcasm and humor don't come across well in print for the most part.

run between the tackles. We don't need Wan'Dale to do it

Looking at the way they're building their roster, and prior experience, I strongly suspect there'll be a lot less of those reps.
While I like a power offense, I don't think that's what this O is going to be about.
The talk about the reverses and jet sweeps is always overdone . How many times can you use those a game ? Maybe like 3 or 4? That would be a ton . What will be interesting for me is whether either of these guys can be involved in the downfield passing game .
I think they really like Toney and Robinson to keep the D on their toes. Golladay is just a WR.
The concern is more do they have anyone who can run effective in short yardage...
