NFT: Anybody watching airfares?

TJ : 5/15/2022 8:21 pm
Maybe I'm suffering from selective memory. Planning a trip to Spain for September. Just went to book the flight and I'm pretty sure the fare is double what I saw just a couple months ago. Oh well. We were supposed to take this trip in September of '02 but obviously that got canceled. Don't want to put it off for another year so I guess we'll bite the bullet.
Was listening to a podcast the other morning

Segment on inflatiom. Either npr or the daily wire and they quoted flights are up something like 50% and hotels up 37%. Insane.
I know you meant 20 instead of 02

We were going to do Italy in Sept 2020

Still haven’t gone.
Just booked a trip to Amsterdam and returning from Toulouse for $350

And I just did a trip to Lisbon and southern Spain (Granada and Sevilla) for about $360.

Check out ScottsCheapFlights, I believe it's just $40 per year, but one good deal like that and it's worth it. Adding my referral link, because why not?

Good luck finding a deal.

Well the price of jet fuel

doubled, at least, just like any other fuel and those jets burn a lot.
Not sure why you are surprised

with $5-7 dollar gas prices. You think planes would still have cheap gas?
Airfares change constantly

Philly to Fort Lauderdale changes from 1300 to 1400. One Tuesday it was $800 round trip for two. I locked in that fare. Non stop. Check every day. It does change just about every day
It’s not the fuel

It’s the demand. Airlines took a lot of planes out of service during the bad part of the pandemic, and some of them never got returned to service. Also, they have a shortage of pilots, flight attendants etc. Demand now exceeds supply of seats. Most flights are packed.
In addition to fares,

every fight my wife has booked in the past few months has been changed- non-stops changed to one stop, 7pm arrival changed to 11pm.
The wife and I went to Italy

last August and the round trip airfare was a bit over $700. We are planning a trip to Germany in a July and I cannot find a round trip fare for less than &1300. It sis NOT the cost of jet fuel, but, as mentioned, demand far exceeds supply.
It's jet fuel

plus the airlines all had to cut back flights when planes were half empty. Now the demand is outstripping the supply

Just came back from Texas. There are few flights, fewer non-stops, fewer pilots, flight attendents and oh Fuel is more double. Not going down anytime soon with our current gov. policies on fossil fuels and workforce.

Is why I'm going to the Outer Banks instead of Destin Florida this Summer. It's absolutely outrageous
