*Daniel Jones seems to have developed nice chemistry with wide receiver Collin Johnson. The two connected on several passes throughout practice, including a couple of impressive catches by Johnson in the corner of the end zone during 11-on-11s.
*Guard Shane Lemieux practiced on Monday and participated in team drills. He was placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in Week 1 last season but appears to be making progress towards being ready for the upcoming season.
*It was a surprise to some in the media to see safety Yusuf Corker go undrafted last month. Corker landed with the Giants as a free agent, and on Monday the safety made the defensive play of the day. The former Kentucky Wildcat intercepted a pass which he then took the other way for what would have been a significant gain.
*Jamie Gillan had some towering punts throughout practice. Gillan, a lefty nicknamed the Scottish Hammer, joined the Giants this offseason while Riley Dixon was released.
*Speaking of special teams, the Giants had numerous players fielding punts on Monday, including rookie wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson. Other punt returners included Darius Slayton, Sandro Platzgummer, Adoree' Jackson, Darnay Holmes, Jashaun Corbin, Austin Proehl and Richie James.
*At one point during practice, Saquon Barkley was doing a hand-eye coordination drill with director of coaching operations Laura Young. Young would stand behind Barkley while tossing the ball over his head, forcing Barkley to react quickly in order to catch it.
*Towards the end of practice, rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger had the offensive play of the day as the fourth-round pick made an impressive grab in the end zone. Despite his limited usage in the passing game at San Diego State, Bellinger had some of the best hands in the entire country at the tight end position. He dropped zero passes in 2021, and his 4.2 percent drop rate throughout his collegiate career was the lowest among tight ends drafted last month.
*Running back Antonio Williams has an explosive first step. During 11-on-11s, the former Bills RB also showed his hands and made a great one-handed catch on a pass from Davis Webb.
*Jon Feliciano saw time at the center position Monday. The eight-year veteran is looking to start at center this season for the first time in his NFL career.
*Robert Foster made a couple of nice catches during 11-on-11s, including a leaping touchdown grab from Webb.
*Undrafted rookie tight end Austin Allen truly stands out from everyone in terms of his height, but especially among the other tight ends. Allen is listed at 6-9, four inches taller than any other TE on the roster, and towers over most guys on the team.
*Undrafted rookie tight end Andre Miller showed great speed on a drill, catching passes from Webb and Brian Lewerke. He was joined in the TE group by fellow undrafted rookie Jeremiah Hall, listed as a fullback, who displayed quick feet.
*Daboll patrolled the practice field Monday, spending time with all three sides of the ball. At one point towards the end of practice, the team participated in what the coaching staff called "fourth quarter conditioning." Daboll locked on the defensive linemen, who would get in their stance, rush forward, and then have to sprint in the opposite direction. Games are won and lost with conditioning, especially late in the game with the pass rush. After the exhausting drill, though, Daboll was the first person out on the field handing water bottles to his players.
TOUCHDOWNS
*Saquon Barkley, who has eight career receiving touchdowns to 19 on the ground, caught two touchdowns from close range today. The Giants spent most of their time inside the 10-yard line during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills as coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, who came from offensive powerhouses in Buffalo and Kansas City, install the new scheme.
"Obviously, you start smiling when you see plays work out there and you see how they work in the film room or when you're going over the playbook," Barkley said last month at voluntary minicamp. "You've got to just focus on the little things, getting better every single day. When those opportunities come, make sure we stay healthy enough and we capitalize on the plays that we can make."
*Robert Foster, a former five-star prospect and the No. 1 wide receiver prospect coming out of high school, showed his vertical with a leaping touchdown catch on a pass from Davis Webb. The 6-foot-2 receiver spent his first two NFL seasons (2018 and 2019) in Buffalo, arriving as an undrafted rookie the same year Daboll took over the offense.
*Daniel Jones and Darius Slayton, two members of the Giants' 2019 draft class, teamed up for two touchdowns on Monday. Jones also threw one to Barkley.
*A trio of rookies got on the board. Wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson (second round), tight end Daniel Bellinger (fourth round) and running back Jashaun Corbin (undrafted) caught touchdowns from Webb from inside the five. Originally a third-round draft choice by the Giants in 2017, Webb begins his second stint with the team after two seasons with the Bills. On Saturday, Daboll took note of Corbin, saying that he is "athletic, got some quick twitch." Daboll added that he "kind of stood out a little bit" at rookie minicamp.
*Quarterback Tyrod Taylor showed his speed with a short touchdown run, tapping the front-left pylon with the football. The veteran has 19 career rushing touchdowns (in addition to 59 through the air), including three last season with Houston.
TAKEAWAYS
*Rookie safety Yusuf Corker made the lone interception of the day. He played in 50 career games with 37 consecutive starts at the University of Kentucky and was invited to the Senior Bowl. He did not, however, get drafted.
"I think that happens every year, where this guy should've got drafted in the fourth or seventh or sixth, he's a free agent or this guy should have been a seventh, and he was a second-round pick," Daboll said recently when asked about Corker. "We'll see. He's a good kid. I think he's got a good skillset. Put him back there, see how he does."
OTHER TOP PLAYS
*Defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence kicked off 11-on-11 drills with a batted pass at the line of scrimmage. He tipped the ball up to himself multiple times, but the 6-foot-4, 342-pounder couldn't secure it for the interception. Speaking of picks, the Giants last month picked up the fifth-year option on Lawrence, originally the 17th overall draft choice in 2019, as he learns Wink Martindale's defense this offseason.
"I trust the coaches to put us all in great positions to be dominant [and] to win," Lawrence said a few weeks ago at minicamp.
makes this team considering our TE situation. A TE from UMaine....what a world.
I think the team will keep 4 TE's and no FB's. Bellinger and Akins, and Seal-Jones are locks IMO so that would leave one spot for Austin Allen, Andre Miller, and Jeremiah Hall. I think Hall has a better chance than many expect because of his versatility.
does not look to be very big, tall maybe but not built.
Have a good feeling about Cam Brown this year, he really came on end of last season.
It's going to be a fun battle in camp for the backup LB spots.
I assume that they will keep 9 so that leaves 5 spots for Elerson Smith, Quincy Roche, Micah McFadden, Darian Beavers, Cam Brown, Carter Coughlin, Justin Hilliard, TJ Brunson, Tomon Fox, and Oshane Ximines.

I don't know why you are counting on 4 locks. Ojulari is a given, Martinez depends on his health. Crowder is not a lock, IMO. As far as I can see, there are only 1-2 assured spots and the rest are open.

Obviously it depends on health for all the players. If Martinez tears his ACL in camp he obviously won't be on the roster.
yeah, Thibodeaux is the guy I missed. So him and Azeez make 2. You do remember Martinez already got hurt last year- he hasn't proven he can come back. So that makes 2 locks, maybe 3. Crowder is anything but.
are very few "locks" at any position. Nor should there be given our record. At LB, KT and AO are the only "locks" IMO. McFadden and Beavers as rookie draft picks of the current regime are close behind. After that no one, although Roche and Smith probably have the best chance. Crowder and Brown could easily be cut.

Agree with you Jay about having 4 TEs. Akins sounds like a lock, but at 30 years old, Giants may want to make room for a younger guy. I think there will be plays for a Fullback/H back type and I too like Hall’s versatility. I thought they should have kept Penny for just that reason and it seems like Hall is best suited for that role. His tape was impressive as an outlet receiver.
...which is ironic, since he might not be ready to play.
With just $50K guaranteed, Akins is the opposite of a lock. Seals-Jones is slightly more secure, but his total guarantee of $352.5K would be almost completely off by salary savings if he were replaced by a rookie free agent. And if he found work elsewhere (or on the Giants' Practice Squad), there would probably be an additional offset of $200K. The $200K salary guarantee just indicates that the Giants will offer him a spot on the Practice Squad if he gets cut and goes unsigned.
I have not been as up for and as hype for a Giants team

Doesn't appear that Davis Webb has changed very much. lol

You don't think Thibodeaux is a lock?
Of course, Engram was usually OK in practice. He only dropped them in games -- frequently at the worst possible time.
Hopefully Bellinger will do better.
Sounds like the answer is no...

Plus Bellinger is already a solid blocker. Despite working hard at it Engram has always been a below average inline blocker.

Add the fact that he's an excellent blocker and he's already way way way better then Engram
