Disingenuous, pandering Nashville pop country. Ugh, just the worst. Usually backed by a band putting out generic shit that could be the backing music for any arcade racing game.
To clarify, not all modern country music is awful, but I'd estimate that about 80% of the genre fits my description above.
ACDC - not because they suck, but rather because after 40 million times hearing their 10 hits in rotation for a half century, I have grown to hate them.
Hate is too strong a word, I reserve my musician hatred for Michael Bolton, who nobody likes outside the Bobs, so doesn’t qualify for this thread
But I’ve never gotten into the Grateful Dead. Have several friends who love them, I can appreciate their ability and longevity, but never got the ‘secret code’ with them.
I hated him and every one of his songs. I ended up trading the "ultra-popula" Frampton Alive album to a guy from my dorm for Linda Ronstadt's greatest hits (much to the ridicule of everyone).
Second, I second Rush. There isn't one song I like.
Some family (via marriage) are diehard Rush, so when I asked him what I should listen to in order for me to give them another chance, he pointed out their most popular title and I cringed.
I know he has many fans but I never understood how he has any at all . Middle of the road Bro-rock . Don't get it .
This. And the fans are the absolute worst. All the DMB fans I knew back in college, that's almost all they would listen to. They acted like he was God, and invented music.
Coldplay - yuk; Green Day (singer out of tune - as a matter of fact that whole punk thing); ACDC (great music intros - but then someone starts screaming); Springstein (I accept he's a hometown favourite but can't understand a word he sings);
including Sublime, Sting, and Nirvana. But for me it's Eddie Vedder. His band is awesome. His voice isn't.
Kind of funny. I feel the opposite about Pearl Jam. In particular, the guitarists are as vanilla as it gets.
Vedder on the other hand is a powerhouse. Some people hate Cher-like vibrato - I get that, but his voice IS the focal point of Pearl Jam and there's no getting around that.
In 06', I caught him at a Rock the Vote event with Springsteen, Jackson Browne and John Fogerty. The quality of Vedders voice when you could literally directly compare him with a few of rocks most powerful and beautiful male voices was striking. He sang the big ending to 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' - gave me chills. Freaking great, great singer.
But of course, music is art and the quality of all art is subjective.

X...surprised to hear you feel their guitarists are vanilla. I always thought McCready was a damned good, if not underrated, guitarist. And yes, it's his vibrato that kills me. Can't stand it. His rendition of "Last Kiss" may be the single worst remake of a song I have ever, ever, heard.
Yes. This too.
U2
Grateful Dead and Phish!
Foo Fighters

+1 Don't understand the popularity. It's change the channel for me.

Axl Rose…if I want to hear screeching like that…I’ll step on a cat
+1

Just awful...
Then you hear a tune on the radio by a young Willie Nelson that just tears you by the soul strings and C & W hooks you all over again

Grateful Dead - Garcia's a great guitarist but their following
(Spinners and Tye Dyed Wierdo's
I like the early Beatles, but don't much care for their psychedelic years.

oh, and along with the Beatles, I hate John Lennon as a solo
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Bruce Springsteen
U2
Pearl Jam
Add me to this list....he sounds like Katherine Hepburn

Nails on a chalkboard
Yes. This too.
Same here.
I can tolerate a few songs I suppose, but really really dont get it
Funny thing is if you google "bands similar to U2", I'm a fan and enjoy the music of all the results.. just don't like Bono's tone I guess..
