I cannot stand The Police

I know they are 80s icons but I just think they suck. Can't stand Oasis. I am at a loss for why this band has any following. I want to drive my car off the road when I hear Wonderwall.
oh, damn, I forgot all about Oasis

They were pure shit and, even worse, were the biggest egomaniacs on earth to boot.

Why'd you have to remind me Oasis existed???

Led Zeppelin for me. About five seconds of a Led Zeppelin song and I'm diving for the remote, or the tuning knob in the car. Like someone said above, nails on a chalkboard.

I can sort of make it through "Stairway to Heaven," I guess, but I'll try to leave the room.

Oddly, Mozart has the same effect on me. Only classical composer I can't abide. Some are boring but Mozart is actively irritating.

For my wife, it's Pink Floyd, and I LOVE Pink Floyd.

Yes, it would be better if there existence was wiped from your memory. Liam Gallagher might be the biggest douche in the history of music

I realize you didn't mean a dozen times literally, but when was this? I can only remember them playing Trax once.

Trax was a great venue, saw a bunch of great shows there, particularly Jawbox and Helmet.
Smashing Pumpkins
Gatorade Dunk : 5/17/2022 12:16 pm : link
And not even really Smashing Pumpkins so much as it's just Billy Corgan's voice that is like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Going a bit farther back (to before my time), Janis Joplin is way up there also.
Radiohead

Glad to see I am not the only Dave Matthews Band hater. Truly terrible and when I hear it I don't understand how this band has any fans at all.
Michael Jackson for me.
Mike in Long Beach : 5/17/2022 12:23 pm : link
Not a question of talent. He's one of the most gifted performers to ever walk to Earth. And I don't hate the music. But I don't like it compared to the tear-generating lore he's created amongst his fans. If I hear his music on the radio I'm probably continuing to scroll.

They're my favorite band of all time, and I still respect this take. If it doesn't move you then nothing else matters.

Jackson will always fall into better performer than musician. As a performer - he may be in his own league. His popularity will never be matched.

But as a singer - especially his late 80s and 90s stuff - meh.

Yeah, I used to consider myself a huge Radiohead fan and still likely would if I were able to recharge my appreciate of them periodically by seeing them live, but for the most part their recordings don't really do it for me. In Rainbows and OK Computer are my favorite albums of theirs, but even they have at least 3 songs that I just could never get into and am never in the mood to hear.

no idea how that band became famous. terrible music

I grew up on a dairy farm (a little bit upstate). Besides milk, we sold a lot of hay for horse people (we made good hay, got a good rep, so horse people came a distance to buy from us).

One day I was helping load a big truck and the guy said he was picking up the hay for his boss, who was the lead singer of Foreigner.

Being about 20 yrs old at the time, I had no filter and immediately said "Foreigner! I f*cking hate Foreigner!" The guy just rolled his eyes - and I still f*cking hate Foreigner!

is #1 most disliked for me. Back in the day, certain friends would put them on and I would just cringe. It made those people more annoying to me just knowing they liked that shit.

I also have to agree with all who said Pearl Jam. Eddie Vedder might be a decent person, but I just can't stand him. If Tom Brady was a rock star, he'd be Eddie Vedder.

was never a big fan of Robert Plant's voice or Geddy Lee's. I like some Zep and Rush kind of in spite of their voices.

Bands on all time hate list:
Foreigner
Bee Gees (I can tolerate some really old stuff, don't like it, but won't risk breaking a toe getting to the tuner to change station. The disco shit is another story)
DMB - I actually kind of originally liked some of his early stuff, went to a concert in the 90s, made me very sleepy and have hated them ever since.
Styx
Billy Joel
Bon Jovi
Guns n Roses (Axel's voice hurts my ears)

I have no idea who ever agreed to sign Neil Young to a recording contract. Talented song writer but the worst voice I've ever heard.

Can't stand U2 either. Or REM. Or The Dead. Or Phish. Or Dave Matthews.

Eddie Vedder. Miserable whiny vocals and lyrics. Horrifically annoying.

comments on here, it's an opinion question and everyone is entitled to one.

What should be required as part of posting on a thread like this is not just listing the singers you don't like, but list the singers or bands you do like.

When the guy who hates the Beatles (for example not picking on that poster) but says he likes Limp Bizkit people have some perspective.

When I read threads about movies and shows and read the poster who says I hated the Sopranos, the Wire and Breaking Bad - I do wonder what they like (real housewives shows?)

So, I also wonder here, not criticizing, just looking for context.

Good point.

Helps to separate hating a genre from the artist itself, unless that artist is very very unique.

Also, there can come a time where you like the artist musically but dislike the artists on a personal level (Steely Dan, talented duo, but stuck up fucks lol).

Jay Z had/has a GOAT level *career*, sorta like Brady. A lot of it was buoyed by having great music to accompany his raps.

He seemed to marry the music to his style of rap better than anyone else, IMO.

Guys like Nas and Eminem, I felt as pure rappers were better than Jay Z but not significantly better. And those two in particular were never big on making music for the club anywhere to the level of Jay Z.

And musically, not all of Nas and Eminem's albums were IMO on the same level. Unfortunately it's not a catalog of a cappella raps, but music. I'd say that Jay Z's Blueprint III was his last musically good album, a good deal longer than the other two.

Jay Z could make and has made just about every type of song in his genre and done a good job at it.

His charisma carried him a bit. He pumped himself up quite a bit after the Notorious BIG died. It's crazy to think what his career would've been like if Biggie wasn't murdered. They were likely the best comps for each other as far as styles/personalities.

Biggie died too soon, so it's hard to know how his career would've played out.

The sound of rap changed quite a bit from the early '90s to late '90s to mid '00s to now. Jay Z seemingly navigated it the best, to sound relevant in the most years passed, with a close second to LL Cool J who despite being a pioneer with a ten year head start never had quite the acclaim.

At the same time, if rap music never evolved from the mid '90s sound, Jay Z IMO never becomes the big star that he's become. In 1995, a Mobb Deep or Wu Tang Clan or probably another 10 or so other rappers/groups had more star power than he did, and Nas was on another planet.

Then a few years later, a lot changed.

Interesting genre.

I really respect your post because it was well thought out… but I just can’t put Jay-Z on the same level as Eminem or Nas. I want too, but I just can’t. Nas is criminally underrated mainstream.
