...I avoid listening to most Led Zeppelin except a couple of songs because a good friend of mine discovered them in the mid '90s after being a big Aerosmith fan and from that point on up to the present day, he's a diehard LZ fanatic. Nothing wrong with that per se but being his friend I had to endure hearing nothing but Zep songs in his car when we went somewhere OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again. Hey guess what we're watching tonight? The Song Remains The Same (again) I got overdosed and got a complex about it. How do you not get sick of just one band day in and day out for weeks, months, years?
Even today it's annoying to talk music with him because (Obviously) Led Zeppelin was the heaviest most creative most bad ass band that ever existed. And there's no debating it. Jon Bonham was the best drummer ever, Page best guitarist, etc etc etc blah blah blah.
This must be how it feels like for an atheist to live with an enthusiastic born-again Christian lol
(I also don't bring up to him how poorly I think most of their records were recorded and produced)
actually embarrassed him on Renegade imo, especially when performing it live. Jay Z has such a lazy delivery and almost no energy live. And here he is at almost 50 demolishing everyone still.
I saw Nas live at UConn in 2004/5 and he came out solo and put on one hell of a performance. The superior rapper and my favorite of all time.
I have no idea who ever agreed to sign Neil Young to a recording contract. Talented song writer but the worst voice I've ever heard.
Can't stand U2 either. Or REM. Or The Dead. Or Phish. Or Dave Matthews.
He was a Crosby stills and Nash. So I guess he rode that. Horrible voice. I lost ally forgot the Dead existed lol. I guess smoking an ounce of weed In an hour or two makes anything sound ok.
Neil was a serious contributor in Buffalo Springfield and was very successful before joinjng CSN. Everyone Knows This is Nowhere was a great album.
I love Rush, but Geddy Lee has a God-awful singing voice.
He stopped screeching after 1980 and sang in his chest voice afterwards. He also couldn't anymore if he wanted to because he overdid it in the 70s and got older

100% agree with all of this. I don’t understand how Jay-Z has made all of this money. He’s not that great compared to several peers.
no idea how that band became famous. terrible music
I grew up on a dairy farm (a little bit upstate). Besides milk, we sold a lot of hay for horse people (we made good hay, got a good rep, so horse people came a distance to buy from us).
One day I was helping load a big truck and the guy said he was picking up the hay for his boss, who was the lead singer of Foreigner.
Being about 20 yrs old at the time, I had no filter and immediately said "Foreigner! I f*cking hate Foreigner!" The guy just rolled his eyes - and I still f*cking hate Foreigner!
You should have said
“I’ve been waiting, for a guy like you…. To come and buy my hay”
See you in hell, Haha. Dylan & Springsteen are two of my music Mt. Rushmore guys.
Other than Born in the USA, the album, I find a lot of Bruce's stuff boring as hell.
People LOVE Arcade Fire, I dont get it.
I also don’t get the Arcade Fire love. There are like 75 band members and most of their songs sound like shit IMO.
I don't love Arcade Fire by any means, but their songs that work fucking work. "Everything Now" is outstanding and has the kind of instantly familiar hook that makes thousands of songwriters slap their foreheads and think "I can't believe I never thought of that."

Dude, there is Onion article about people like your friend that is perfect.
considering they styled themselves as the people's band for decades and they made a conscious effort to stay away from pop and never sell out. they were one of the longest-running, most successful, most innovative (wall of sound, bootleg policy), and most influential rock acts of all time. they also played something for everyone ranging from country, bluegrass, blues rock, psychedelic rock, folk rock and so many others. whereas Metallica views its music as property to be sold, the Dead viewed its music as ethereal and belonging to anyone who happened to be listening.
at the end of the day, if you really *hate* a band like that, maybe you're just jealous that you're not in the club. either that or you had a really bad experience on Shakedown Street.
I really respect your post because it was well thought out… but I just can’t put Jay-Z on the same level as Eminem or Nas. I want too, but I just can’t. Nas is criminally underrated mainstream.
Thanks GN.
Haha, I agree totally about Nas being very underrated.
and there are a few songs I like, but most of their music sounds so whiney. Both Freddie's vocals and Brian May's guitar playing usually annoy the crap out of me. May is a terrific player, but his tone just goes right through me.

Or maybe you just hate hippies
Hating the Dead bc of hippies feels like hating Twix bc of diabetics.
It’s not Twix’s fault some people took it too far!
everyone here likes instead. To hate a lot of these musicians is pretty funny, makes me wonder what’s on the playlists instead.
If I had to pick a top ten? In no particular order.....Ramones, Misfits, Motorhead, Alice in Chains, Morphine, Slayer, Megadeth, Nirvana, Minutemen, Pixies
I can't believe there are so many people that hate Led Zep
that is a head scratcher. I love rock and roll and like almost all of it but here we go.
I don't like: Oasis, Bush, Hottie and the Blowfish, REM, Creed, Wings, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Green Day, Nickelback, Linkin Park
I fucking detest: John Mayar, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Maroon 5, ALL COUNTRY MUSIC - I get nauseas when every I hear that sappy, twangy, yodeling bull shit, it sucks I can't stand it.

Other than that everything is just dandy.
WTF country music are you listening to with yodeling??
Giants fans should take advantage of the Nashville game, and check out a bunch of different venues and country subgenres. Or at least watch the Ken Burns doc.

I suggested this but Klaatu said no - just hate - lol.
I like the Clash, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rancid, Gaslight Anthem, Bruce, the Get up Kids, the Descendants, lately been listening to Machine Gun Kelly (his transformation from rap to punk/pop is incredible - and influenced by Travis Barker from Blink 182) also been listening to country lately - Hank Williams Jr, Bleu Edmunds, and some others. I like a very diverse variety of music.
Bosstones were OK. Ska punk was generally not really my thing but they did have some good songs.
I can listen to a wide variety - when the mood strikes me I really like country, mainly Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings. Like old Delta blues. Like some old time rock acts like the Kinks, the Animals, some Allman Brothers.
Ultimately though I always come back to hard, heavy, loud, fast stuff. That will always be my bread and butter.

I found his stuff during some COVID boredom.
I don't know how exactly but he has a musical relationship with Travis Barker from Blink 182 and he morphed his music from rap to pop punk.
he does a lot of collaborations.
a link below of a collaboration with a British singer named yungblud
His album Tickets to my Downfall was really good. This song was from 2019 - I started listening to him during COVID starting in 2020 when I was desperate for something new.
He is dating or engaged to Megan Fox and he has a video with her. That song is My Bloody Valentine - sounds like a Blink 182 song.

IMO, Bruce's best album is 'Darkness on the Edge of Town'.

x100.
It's particularly a shame because their drummer might be one of the top 10 drummers in rock.

The Mount Rushmore of over rated. I agree. And See You in Hell by Grim Reaper was a true master piece. At least that guy could sing .
