NFT: deGrom update: Not yet cleared for mound work

DanMetroMan : 5/17/2022 12:05 pm
"continued healing". diComo said yesterday best case was mid-late June with early july possible if he were cleared now, so it's looking like mid-July is best realistic case here.
Hopefully they go slowly with him

If they keep playing well there's no rush. If it gets to mid July and he can't start to throw then it could be problematic getting him ready for September and October. At this point that should be the goal IMO. If he's ready to go 9/1 that's a game changer in the playoffs.
This is sounding more and more like last season with him

.
Ive said it since the winter

I will believe deGrom is healthy after he gets through a big league start and feels fine

The health updates are meaningless with him
The reality is

his arm is pretty well shot.
what does a Degrom

Your correct. And he better not get a big extension

does it make sense to look at Bumgarner as cheap depth with high reward in a "Rich Hill" SP/RP role.
Seems like he remains intent on opting out
moespree : 5/17/2022 1:57 pm : link
I don't understand his reasoning behind that if he can't get on the field. He has to prove he can pitch and stay healthy to get the type of money he is looking for.

If for some reason he doesn't even pitch this season and still opts out, I don't think he would even be offered the type of money he'd make if he just stayed for next season at his opt in rate.

I think thats unfair..

It's possible he never gets back, of course... but nothing on the field has ever indicated he's shot.

This isn't like John Maine coming back from a shoulder injury throwing 8 MPH slower..

The true reality is that we just don't know yet.
just thinking outside of the box here..

maybe there is a offline deal between Degrom and the Mets to give him this time to fully heal and be ready for playoffs in the hope to extend his career and in return he agrees to a appropriate/modest extension to stay with the team.

“He’s going to get to move back further and throw harder. So those are good things.”

Eppler said deGrom is long tossing from 75 feet. He said the Mets have a “general sense” of how long it will take deGrom to get back on a mound, but he’s not going to share it with the public.

Said manager Buck Showalter: “We all get involved in some time frame. I know you want to know and fans want to know: ‘Is he ahead of schedule? Is he behind schedule? Is he on schedule?’ He’s right where he needs to be . . . It’s exciting to think that he’s making progress in being back with us, but we don’t assume anything. Everybody feels good about where he is.”

Walker might be a very solid under the radar deadline trade target.
Nice win today
Rory : 5/17/2022 6:09 pm : link
Trevor Williams 4ip 6k 0R

Jake reed rocky to start the 5th but gets in a groove against the top of the lineup, weird side arm guy too. Goes 2 IP and gets the Win

Lugo/Smith looked solid

Diaz got in trouble but got out with 2 on and full count.

Good guys 3-1
Nice game 1

Agree with this.....every time he throws a pitch you worry that it is over....
At what point does deGrom switch gears and
CooperDash : 5/17/2022 6:59 pm : link
become the most dominant closer in the history of MLB?

Completely serious question.

That's a very interesting thought. After winning the Cy Youngs and being recognized as the best starter in baseball, it may be hard to process, but it may turn out to be necessary.

I know, it would be hard to accept but I have faith you’d get there 😁
