NFT: Rangers-Canes Tickets are restricted to NC locals

LawrenceTaylor56 : 5/17/2022 1:51 pm
Anyone ever use anything other than ticketmaster to get tickets?

Ticketmaster is only selling tickets to LOCAL buyers in hopes to keep it feeling like a home game.

Anyway, looking to take a road trip down to North Carolina and catch a game if I can.

I find it a little ridiculous
Giantophile : 5/17/2022 1:52 pm : link
they need to do this so their home fans don't get drowned out. Is this what it's like in these scrubby hockey markets? Brutal.

Anyway nothing that would restrict you from buying tix on the secondary market via stubhub, seatgeek, etc.

or stacking the deck against the visiting team. Maybe, just maybe this is a plum for loyal fans who support the home team?

Intent aside, I wish more teams would do this for important games. Reward the loyal fans. I cringe watching the celebrities (who don't attend otherwise) buy their way into sports venues.

I saw someone say that if you use a prepaid card, you can change the location/enter it manually and it'll work. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but... there are probably ways around it.

It's a fairly common thing now. NYR fans will still find their way in there.
Bought tickets to game 2
Costy16 : 5/17/2022 1:57 pm : link
This morning. The price jumped alot compared to Game 1 but I was somehow fortunate enough to find two re-sale that were below the original sale price from the Canes box office.

I went to the game in January in Raleigh. There are Rangers fans all over the state and bordering states. Rangers fans have been a constant when they play the Canes for the entire duration they have been down in NC. Doing this will change nothing.
If there's even a need to do this,
Mad Mike : 5/17/2022 1:57 pm : link
that tells you all you need to know about availability of tickets from sources other than the team.

Rangers fans will be well represented. I was at the game in January and at Backyard Bistro across the street before the game it was probably 70-30 Rangers fans. The arena was probably close to 50-50 that night. I lived in Greensboro back when the Hurricanes came to NC and have been going to see the Rangers down here for 20+ years now and Rangers fans always turn out in large numbers.

During my brief time here, this Snablats character has some truly mind numbing takes.

I find there to be nothing wrong with a home team trying to maximize its home ice advantage. There are NY transplants all over the vountry just as there are Cowboys fans all over the country. I would love to be able to shut put Eagles and Cowboys fans for a playoff game.
The Lightning did this
Costy16 : 5/17/2022 2:26 pm : link
to the Rangers in the ECF in 2015. But they even went farther and would only allow Tampa Bay Lightning or neutral colored gear to be worn by the fans in the arena which I thought was completely out of the line and absurd.

When it comes to comments about actual gameplay, I feel like he just has a wheel with a bunch of random complaints on it, and spins it to decide what to rant about. No basis in what's actually gone on in the games.

His insistence that it's only a "few" teams with small fanbases that have done this is similarly divorced from reality.

Exactly. There isn't a more hardcore fanbase in the NY Metro area than Rangers fans. I saw them at Ronkonkoma at all times of the day and night when there were games.
of course Rangers have hard core fans
Jints in Carolina : 5/17/2022 2:46 pm : link
never denied that.
Why should the Canes make it easier for NYR fans to buy tickets?
Metnut : 5/17/2022 3:00 pm : link
Also, a lot of the people taking shots at the Canes attendance must be forgetting how empty/quiet the Garden was for games late in the season during the recent rebuild years. Those tickets were going for pretty cheap on stubhub and the large amount of no-shows were obvious on TV.

Since NYR fans can easily buy tickets on the secondary market, this move by CAR will have little effect other than to have out of state fans pay slightly more for tickets. Not really that big of a deal IMO.

Here's the other side to it:

If they don't do something like this, the secondary market will snatch up swaths of those tickets knowing they can sell them at a much higher price to NYC-area buyers, and the local fans will either get shut out of the tickets or will be facing much higher prices than the team is intending to charge.

By doing this, not only does the team keep visiting fans restricted, they also put a drag on brokers.

Caniacs are currently the loudest fanbase in the NHL, so I'm all about this. As for it being a "small market," this happened in the NFL this year, and the team restricting tickets was the LA Rams (keeping San Fran fans out).

So that's LA. It's not really about the size of the market.

There are tons of Rangers fans in the RDU area and then you factor the other big metro cities Charlotte, Greensboro and to a lesser extent Winston-Salem. There are plenty of Rangers fans down here as it is.

It doesn't bother me that the Canes did this at all, because Rangers fans are going to show out regardless due to the influx of relocated people in the are not affected by this.

I am now living 3 hours from Raleigh. Yesterday there were entire blocks available - including almost the entire top 10 rows. Those tickets were $100 - same seats in MSG were over $400. You can fly in, stay for a couple of nights and see both games for less than going to MSG. Crazy when you consider what MSG will cost if they keep advancing.

Just about all of them. Your take on K'Andre Miller is beyond laughable. 2nd year player who not only improved leaps and bounds but actually wasn't dreadful against the top line in the entire NHL.

I'll be sure to cite the others as they come up....youre good at that (producing terrible takes).
If you think Miller was good in the Pitt series
Snablats : 5/17/2022 8:43 pm : link
then you have no idea what you are watching

Miller is so soft its ridiculous. Did you see him not even touch Malkin on his breakaway, and barely touched the next guy on his breakaway - both ended up as goals

Did you see him figure skating in his own end, never hitting anyone. Did you see any of his 100 turnovers in the series?

The biggest reason the Rangers defense is struggling is that Miller has to play so much

because in my view NYC sports teams are at a disadvantage to smaller market teams especially now with the salary cap and revenue sharing in place (is there revenue sharing in NHL?) because NY teams usually have to over spend on FAs and contracts in general. Maybe that's a myth, but it sure seems like it's true especially when every other minute some NY sports fan is bitching about an over paid player contract here and we all know the cost of living in this area is higher than many other areas around the country. Not to mention the tax thing and not to mention the white hot attention or spotlight on players here.

So let's assume there is an asshole tax that teams have to pay here in the NYC area. Now we're being told that fans can't travel from NYC to other cities and help that NY team enjoy the ONE fucking perk of being a NY team? All because some insecure little franchise doesn't want to see other fans in their arena? Fuck off. Don't like it? Lure more of your home fans then.

Even if my post isn't true at all...it's horse shit. It's bush league. You cannot tell fans outside that city they can't go to a game. Sorry this is fucking ridiculous. I'll die on that hill.
Isn't this on the official market?

Unofficial secondary markets don't have this restriction. I don't see the Carolina games available via StubHub, but they are available via SeatGeek with no such restriction mentioned.

Anyway, this is not the first time something like this has been done. And, every year for the last decade there have been complaints here about late in season games getting sold to rival fans, making the stadium feel less like a home game. So, it would be OK for us to have such a restriction, but not other teams?

Yes, it's only on tickets sold by the team.

I don't understand your second point. People may be frustrated that MetLife fills up with opposing fans, but I've never seen posts here saying there should be some kind of restriction on ticket sales.

Not an official ban, but there always comments about not selling to the enemy.

because in my view NYC sports teams are at a disadvantage to smaller market teams especially now with the salary cap and revenue sharing in place (is there revenue sharing in NHL?) because NY teams usually have to over spend on FAs and contracts in general.

They're not telling you that you can't go to the game. They're limiting the billing zip codes.

JFC, talk about being insecure.

The website was overloaded and I couldn't purchase from SC.
My dad eventually got to purchase, and was served with

"Sales to this event will be restricted to residents of NC, SC, South VA......purchases outside of these areas will be canceled and given a refund...."

I'm pretty sure if one purchases from stubhub, or other 3rd party resales, there are no restrictions....it's ticketmaster thing.

I'm just hoping there is a game 5 since my brother is flying out from CT.
