I thought he was on the Blue Jays. Back in 2016 he was the only nerd in the starting rotation ; the rest looked like hipster athletes with Degrom ; Noah Syndergard and Rob Gsellman completing the starting rotation. Art least the others were injured and performance fell he just started suxking
4 innings 1 hit 6 k’s. Legit 3-4 starter upside. Nice addition to the organization after being such a heralded HS player and a college disappointment, looks like a legit MLB talent
Isn’t very good and I never was a huge fan but unlike Syndergaard he’s a legit great dude. Tons of charity etc. People got so upset he spurned the Mets. We got lucky he did

What do you mean unlike Syndergard? What does he beat his wife or something?

Syndergaard trolled the Mets saying their no-hitter wasn’t real. He’s also done some other less than “kind” stuff in the past. Tweeted a picture of a homeless man in SF mocking him and then deleted it when people dumped on him.
syndergaard getting lit up and yanked in the first inning was great
30 innings into what's likely just a 100-150 inning season looking like he did the mets a favor. also probably took the richest owner off the table next offseason. whoops.

Cool. So making fun of homeless people and randomly knocking players after an accomplishment shows signs of being a great guy. Got it

Am I missing something or is he just saying "let's get out of this dump" by showing the pic? THat is what I gathered from it. Yea and homeless people defecating on a sidewalk and having their butt exposed is a " yea let's get the heck out of here".
And yea throwing a no hitter with like multiple pitchers is not the same thing in the traditional sense of what "no hitter " means. Big deal.
First inclination after your teammate throws a no hitter is to take a shot at the team YOU chose to leave and pitchers that you didn’t even play with? Really?

You're making it out to be some low taste move but, maybe he is just keeping things honest and keeping up standards. No hitter is the one pitcher 95% of the time. Maybe I am wrong and he is disgruntled and looking to take a shot. My understanding is the mets didn't counter and he was kinda pissed. Was he looking for more money and the Mets called his bluff and to save face he left?
Maybe I am wrong or maybe a have fond mets memories of thor.
Fact he got 21 million for the Angels “shocked” people. Expecting more than the QO from the Mets was his mistake. I’m never against spending but 19.5 million from the Mets was far from insulting. The fact he got more was the surprise. His stuff has not returned (I’m not rooting against him getting healthy, but early returns are not great. Looks like just a guy Link - ( New Window )
even when the Mets lose they make it awfully difficult on their opponents. A welcome change from a lot of the noncompetitive nights we’ve seen in prior years.
His numbers are very similar to 2021 right now in multiple categories (though he's actually worse in OBP and OPS right now). This might just be what he is now offensively. You have to hope he can find the pre 2020 version of himself, but his offensive decline has been running for a while now.
That my non-AL watching self was expecting, but he is a dynamic player with star presence and I'm happy to have him..
The expectations just can't be for him to be peak Carlos Beltran or peak Jose Reyes or peak David Wright...
The scary thing with the money is not Lindor in isolation... It's moreso: how do you look Nimmo and McNeil in the eye and say Lindor is worth triple what their worth? That's what scares me as we negotiate their next deals...

This is a really good point. "Well, when we got him, we thought he'd be a superstar...turns out we over paid him" won't cut it.
Funny how "disappointing" Lindor has been. I mean, if this is a struggling version of him, I am kinda OK with that.
As fondly as we all look back at Beltran. Keep in mind he only had two "great" seasons here, and three very disappointing ones. And the most memorable clutch Mets AB of all time - but for the wrong reasons.
Best part is - Beltran indirectly helped lead to Lindor. Beltran ->Wheeler ->Greene ->Lindor.
Has he lived up to expectations yet - obviously not. Offensively at least. But this isn't exactly Jason Bay territory.
He's been a four win player. In FA - you pay about $8-$9mm per war. So, he has been roughly 'fair' value.
He's struggled offensively - still a top five SS in the game. Far better than Rosario or Gimenez. The Mets are better team with hi than without him.
Imagine what happens when he hits the way he should?

Yes.. when he hits the way he should, Mets get off to an 18-8 start and have now gone 6-6 since he's cooled off...
Mets are better with him... but some (me included) were hyped into thinking he was a top 10 PLAYER in baseball, not a top 5 SS...
Also, don't look now but Gimenez is absolutely outplaying Lindor so far this year...
Are you categorizing the Beltran seasons that he got hurt and Mets mismanaged his injuries as "disappointing", because the numbers tell a much different story than your description..
He had a bad first year then absolutely mashed while playing GG caliber CF until he was traded for an elite pitching prospect. Best free agent signing in Mets history and I don't think it's even debatable.
The scary thing with the money is not Lindor in isolation... It's moreso: how do you look Nimmo and McNeil in the eye and say Lindor is worth triple what their worth? That's what scares me as we negotiate their next deals...
This is a very silly way of thinking multimillion dollar business negotiations.
and i've long been a believer in the comp to beltran generally.
but remember Beltran's 2 big years with the mets were when they had great lineups around him (specifically Delgado and Wright protecting). In 2006-2007 they averaged 5 runs per game.
even with the DH this team is only at 4.3 right now.
the hole in this lineup is only having 1 Alonso. they need another big bat behind him.
i was also a big gimenez fan and it's good to see him breaking out in cleveland. in terms of ROI that trade may not end up looking great on the financial side since lindor cost so much but i still don't have an issue with it - the mets paid for a 3-4 fwar floor and that's what they are getting.
at some point you have to think we will see the ceiling too - and honestly if not for the dead balls we may have seen it this whole year. imo getting a true #5 hitter would help the entire offense a lot.

He had some very good years in the minors. Surprising the Phillies and Pirates both let him go

Yeah. He clearly has big league stuff. Will he be successful? No clue but you can see it’s quality
tie game bitches. Fuck yea!
Nice to have the bounce back after losses but hopefully Mets can string together a few wins at some point here..
Hope Nimmo is ok.
Good player, but boy, far cry from a superstar.
