#Giants are signing CB Maurice Canady, per source. Some secondary help in wake of James Bradberry departure.
Canady has experience playing the boundary in Wink Martindale’s defense with Ravens. 6-1, 190. Good length. Was with Cowboys last year, also spent time with Jets in 2019.
Maurice Canady missed time last season with Cowboys due to a concussion, which led to IR stint. Should compete for time on outside and mix in well with #Giants younger CB options. Turns 28 later this month. Also has flexibility to play in slot. Worth a flier. Worked out Tuesday.

Veteran corner with ties to Martindale, so makes sense as an insurance policy. Canady has missed a ton of time due to injuries throughout his career. He was recently a tryout at the Bears' rookie minicamp. Giants will need to cut someone to make room for Canady
Holmes, Slayton, Gates all would give some cap relief.
The Giants should see if they can get ANYTHING in a Slayton trade (say Green Bay). A 6th rd pick and salary relief would be worth it.
I highly doubt that anyone is going to give up a draft pick for a guy that was the Giants 4th WR when everyone was healthy and overpay him. He's a 4th, 5th or 6th WR at best on most teams. If Schoen can scam someone into a deal that would be amazing, maybe Brown can teach him how they did it in Philly.
don't think Slayton has any trade value right now. He had the highest drop percentage of any WR with at least 40 targets last year, costs $2.5M, and is a FA after this season. A team might trade for him if they lose several WRs during camp, but even then I think the most we'd get is a seventh.
Look at how quickly a position of strength turned into a major weakness. This is why it's crucial in the draft to keep the pipeline flowing, and why you should not skip over a position based on perceived strength. Things change quickly in the Not For Long.
The 27-year old, 6'1'', 200-pound Canady was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Ravens. He has spent time with the Ravens (2016-2019), New York Jets (2019), and Cowboys (2020-2021). The Ravens cut him in November 2019 and he was then claimed by the Jets. Canady signed with the Cowboys in March 2020, but opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to COVID. Canady has played in 40 regular-season games with four starts. He played in eight games in 2021 with the Cowboys, but missed half the season with a concussion that landed him on Injured Reserve. In those eight games, he played just 14 percent of defensive snaps and was credited with six tackles.

What position of strength? I suppose DB was a strength on paper after the Jackson signing. But he missed most of training camp, and by the time he got acclimated Bradberry seemed to have forgotten how to play the position, Peppers was injured, and they couldn’t stop anyone in crunch time.
slight better than average across the board. not really expecting much but at least he's more experienced than Jarren Williams. Was hoping for someone with more upside like Kyle Fuller or Kevin King but presumably they want more $.

Attacking Jarren Williams is odd. He flashed unexpectedly in a good way last year. His youth and upside is probably better than this JAG's "experience"
Jarren Williams - 194 snaps (plus 86 on ST)
Maurice Canady - about 800 snaps (plus another 500 on ST)
neither of these guys is anywhere close to a lock for a 53 man roster.
Canady was a veteran tryout for the Bears less than 2 weeks ago and he didn't even make their 90 man.
Are we rebuilding, trying to win or both? If we’re rebuilding we’re looking for youth to develop, not journeymen stop gaps, so in that respect comparing the experience of depth players is probably not a priority.
rebuilding doesn't mean giving roster spots to undeserving players
Poll the current crop of Cowboys media on which player has been the biggest surprise during 2021 training camp, and one man is likely to run away with the top spot. For cornerback Maurice Canady, though, that designation is a little bit of a sore spot.

Why would Green Bay trade a 6th AND pick up 2.5 million in salary?
Only 28. Almost a year younger than Bradbury, so he should have plenty of tread left.

I'm just being funny.

This.
They need competition, you don't just hand out roster spots to undrafted rookies without any competition.
Their top 3 CBs ended up staying healthy and Canady got a concussion in week 6 so ended up not playing much (Diggs and Brown played 90% of their snaps as starters, Jordan Lewis played 70% in the slot). But he seems like a decent bet to make the 53 if he can stay healthy.
Cowboys CB Maurice Canady surprising everyone but himself with camp performance - ( New Window )
