Neil Stratton @InsideTheLeague

Including former GM Dave Gettleman, seven scouting staffers who entered the '21 season w/the #Giants are now gone. That's a lot of turnover when you consider that #NFL teams have an average of 20 scouts/executives.

*********

Two interesting notes:

As far as I tell, no collegiate scouts have been fired. It was the supervisory position guys who got the ax.

The director of college scouting (Pettit's old position) is STILL vacant.
A long these lines

Well at least SOME
Joe Beckwith : 5/18/2022 5:00 pm : link
did their job well enough to get promoted.
Did any of these guys get scooped up elsewhere?
Go Terps : 5/18/2022 5:04 pm : link
Or are they like their players...once they get cut other teams have no interest. To sum up 2018-2021...

These are the people who kept their jobs

It will be interesting once the supervisory roles are filled will they bring in their own people or they give these people one year and we see more turnover at the lower ranks in 2023

The way scouting staffs are done you really won’t know until this time next year. They are usually hired May 1-April 30 so teams are not making lateral move until after next year’s draft.
Schoen DID say
Dave on the UWS : 5/18/2022 6:01 pm : link
he would evaluate the scouts on their ability to embrace what he wants and new ways of looking at players. During the “group” meeting where ALL the scouts were present, he was going to have them present their players on the ways he laid out for them to- “his” way. Guess the scouts themselves embraced the challenge and satisfied JS to the point that he felt he only needed to make changes higher up.

I would imagine the new Director of College Scouting (if one is hired) will make those decision.

Except, Schoen has already hired two NEW scouts, an area scout and a national scout.
Wasn't there a fistfight involving one of these mongos?
Optimus-NY : 5/18/2022 6:18 pm : link
Siam methinks? Does anyone recall?

You caught that too? That name is too unique.
Could Ryan Hollern
12aob : 5/18/2022 8:09 pm : link
be functioning as director of college scouting? I’m not well versed in organizational hierarchy terminology so not sure of the difference between a coordinator and a director
DJ Boisture
Giant16 : 5/18/2022 8:47 pm : link
is the son of Tom, per Obit of his passing.

Did I read correctly that the Giants have never had a Southwest
arniefez : 5/18/2022 9:01 pm : link
scout before? I understand they have national scouts but it seems there are quite a few players drafted from TX, AR and OK

I took the obit as ambiguous: unclear whether "DJ" is Tom's son David or the next generation (David Jr. or whatever).

I don't think so. First, that was Klunder's title. Secondly, I think the Giants would be announcing he replaced Pettit.

I think the coordinator is the one mainly responsible for logistics/compiling video/etc.

Thanks, Giant16.

Grandson makes more sense. Looks like the Giants are the only employer he's had since leaving mighty Sacred Heart U.

On the positive side, we may have him to thank for the gems the Giants have mined from the Pac-12 in recent years. ;o)
Who did Kevin Abrams
Silver Spoon : 5/19/2022 6:32 am : link
blow to have a made up position created to or him?

I believe he offered to tender his resignation or accept a reassignment so Schoen could fill all of the top assistants with his choice of people. Since he has not done anything to undermine Schoen they created the position.
Could it be possible
Jay on the Island : 5/19/2022 10:19 am : link
That Brandon Brown will take over some of the responsibilities of the Director of college scouting?
Our new GM really seems to be acting like he
Jimmy Googs : 5/19/2022 1:25 pm : link
heads that department...
