Who got the best contracts, thus best bets to make the team? Per OTC:
Mbaeteka has guaranteed salary of $207K. That’s about 25% more than 18 weeks on PS, I think.
Corbin has $100K salary guaranteed, plus $10K signing bonus.
Truesdell $60K salary plus $15K bonus.
Hall $15K salary, $15K bonus.
The rest are all rookie minimum ($705K) with no guarantees.
Not that the amounts are huge, but it does seem odd to me to think of UDFAs potentially creating dead money against the cap.
Not trying to say that the money is significant. I just find it interesting to see how they value these prospects coming into camp. Truesdell surprised me, as I hadn’t seen him rated anywhere near as high as Corker, Hinton, and others. That contract is active on OTC, so don’t know about failed physical.

That money is peanuts and not something you consider once camp starts. If some of the guys make it, great.

OTC is sometimes slow to update. Even before rookie camp it was made clear that he failed physical. Truesdell got more had he been healthy because there just aren’t many 3-4 NT types in college game (due to all of spread and gimmick offenses) and plenty of teams play that scheme in NFL. Supply and demand.
Its a very interesting scenario for sure, I'm sure a lot of us are thinking the same thing.
As for Mbaeteka’s guarantee, $207K exactly equals 18 weeks on the practice squad at the 2022 base pay of $11.5K per week for a player with no prior NFL experience. So the plan for him seems pretty clear, unless he wildly exceeds expectations in the next three months.

Understood guaranteed salaries for UDFAs, unless they are contingent on the player at least making it to the practice squad.
With offset language, the team seldom ends up on the hook for much. Most UDFAs who get significant salary guarantees land at least on a practice squad somewhere, for long enough to pay down the guarantee.

Yes you are correct. I accidentally was using 2021 numbers.
I was surprised that some fans expected MBaeteka to make the roster this season. He will certainly make the PS if he shows progress during training camp but the Giants cannot keep a player who won't be ready to play this season as depth.
I loved the signing when the Giants made it and I still do but MBaeteka is as raw as they come. Hopefully the Giants found the next Jordan Mailata but even Mailata didn't play year one. Keep in mind that Mailata was farther along thatn MBaeteka because he was a rugby player so at least he had some organized sport background.
