Figured I'd start a thread that can be kicked around over the weekend.
Potential great pairing in one group with Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods. I did not look at all of them.
Few of story lines:
If Spieth wins he will have the career Grand Slam - only Sarazen, Nicklaus, Player, Hogan and Woods have done so in the "modern era" (Open, US Open, Masters and PGA)
Can Scotty Scheffler continue blowing the field away
Will Woods be competitive this time
Too bad some of the big boys are injured DeChambeau and Koepka. I did not even look to see if they are playing.

Dechambeau is out, koepka is in

Seems like Dechams and Brooks have to choose between weight lifting or golf. Starting to look like its a bad combo
Another "lazy" three putt did him in...he is not close - he is there.
I do not know if I have every seen a beer bunker player than what he is doing now.
Probably a dozen(or more) guys with legitimate chances - and I mean guys that would not surprise with a win. I am not expressing this correctly, but I think you get the gist.

No, and don't really care. I like his golf. Yes what he did to Elin was terrible. Seems to be taking care of his kids well.
BTW, saw Elin's new house yesterday(impressive) and her new hubby was right behind my group playing golf yesterday.
Shouldn't need to respect the athlete in order to enjoy watching him play. But if you do, whatever...
Says the guy who probably has 4-5 Lawrence Taylor jerseys.

anyone roots for Tiger is beyond me. Have you watched the documentary by Armen Keteyian?

Reasonable assumption, but NO, no jerseys.
I'd love if Rory won for the 75% Irish in me.
Tiger gutted it out to make the cut. You may not like him, but the guy has guts and even with a bad leg hits some of the best approach shots still.
Should be cooler and windy today. Will separate the ball strikers from the bombers.

I wouldn’t say Zalatoris is unsurprising. He has 4 Top 10 finishes in majors since joining PGA Tour in 2020. Pereira and Davis Riley are surprising although it is hard for an unknown to keep it up for 72 holes.

the 1st two rounds. Interesting that Scotty Scheffler did not make the cut. A lot of the highly ranked guys have not played well, but the Friday morning weather was horrendous. Justin Thomas did play well in the wind. My prediction of an unsurprising winner may be wrong as Will Zalatoris and Mito Pereira are in the final group. But right behind are Thomas and Bubba(nine birdies and 2 bogeys).

Yes, Will has been right there in many tournaments, but he has not quite yet made the easily recognized group. Like Morikawa before his big win, he quietly has played well consistently.
But yes, Will would not be an "unsurprising" winner.
Play for the sure thing par and hope your putter gets hot.
The real big names are at least 7 behind.
I haven't started watching yet, but my wife tells me Tiger withdrew.
Leaders going off in another hour.

Pereira looked like an iron man yesterday. Not unheard of, but one or two bad holes and some doubt can creep in.

Lipped out on 3 for bogey. Let's see. Young missed a very makeable birdie
yeah, me too. Pareira faltering a bit now. I just can't get into Zalatoris, so I'm more rooting Young. But I don't think you can rule out JT- a couple more birdies on the back and he can be at -5 or -6 and have a good shot.
One of, if not the worst decision i have ever seen on an 18th tee from a leader in a major..
How stupid can you be? take the 3 wood play it safe and play from par, take double out of the equation
I mean it helped me, i have JT +2500
Yes, it was "Van de Velde" -esque

by Pereira, Haha.

Yep. And he made a series of blunders to blow that one...
Oooops - yes just saw the graphic.
???he's 25 feet for eagle
You saw Zalatoris drive, as you know by now.
Worthy champion and one of the best, if not the best, of the US players.
I did say playoff...
Yes, Pereira did lose it on the last hole.

Well, I did say watch out for JT if he gets to -5 :)
