Jones has enabled people to ignore how bad Saquon is

Giants73 : 5/20/2022 11:00 am
A lot of posters on one side of the fence or the other when it comes to Jones. But seems there is a lack all around of people discussing just how bad Saquon has been.

Is the there any scenario where he is a Giant in 2023? He is going to want a large contract and has proven he cannot stay healthy. Plus, when he has been on the field he has been underwhelming at best since his rookie year.

Run him into the ground (if he can stay on the field) and send him away.
Barkley was drafted even higher than Jones.

He's been terrible for a number of different reasons and he can't stay healthy. Absolutely has to go after this season.
He's great when healthy. Just hasn't been healthy since his rookie

season.

There is definitely a scenario where he stays with the Giants. But it's not a likely scenario.

Either way, he's easy to root for. Great guy, great teammate and fun to watch. I look forward to him doing well this year for the Giants and then we'll see what happens after that. The best scenario for all of us is him duplicating his rookie year.
I would assume he would be frachised
Chip : 5/20/2022 1:41 pm : link
either way. His problem is the same as Jones the very offensive line. The middle sets the pocket for Jones hopefully that can happen this year. I will assume Neal can set the edge and with Engram finally gone lets find a TE who can block and hold onto the ball. Neal and a real TE will help Barkley and Jones. Couple extra first downs a game will lead to more wins and sustained drives.

Yeah, lets see how long Allen lasts in Buffalo having to carry the RB load on top of the QB load because the Bills cheaped out at RB

Ive said it for months - if you dont have an elite QB, you need a bigtime playmaking RB, a good OL and good coaches

So lets see how Barkley does with a better OL and better coaching
It's really not fair to call him bad or terrible

when the real issue is that he is not as advertised. He was supposed to be a "generational running back" and "touched by the hand of God" and received the full benefit of Happy Valley hype and Credulous Crew in the front office. This was nonsense then and obvious nonsense now.

He is not a powerful running back for his supposed size and he can't block to save his life. He is a good receiver, fast and was a shifty runner prior to his knee injury.

I don't think there is any way he is going to be on this team after this year, but it's not fair to kill the guy whose best attributes were diminished by injury because we were idiots who swallowed the hype.
I really, really want to like Barkley.

There just isn’t much left to like. The last straw for me was the ankle injury. I know it was a fluke thing, and the play failed because of a terrible throw by Jones. But all Barkley needed to do was keep his head on a pivot once he knew the pass was incomplete. He might still have collided with Lewis, but he would have walked away healthy. Unfair? Perhaps, but the most important ability is availability.
Saquon gets blind-sided, injures ankle. - ( New Window )

Best case scenario is he plays well enough for Schoen to trick a team into trading a 3rd rounder for him at the deadline.

It sorta summed up his NFL career, minus the stellar rookie season. Some players have a penchant for not being able to avoid injuries or bad luck. I hope he's not one of them, but the past three seasons aren't helpful to the view.
SB and Jones are here for 2022
JonC : 5/20/2022 2:29 pm : link
and here's hoping their fortunes change as the roster around them improves, and the coaching is better suited to figuring out how to deploy and teach them. So much losing and time lost to injuries tends to deteriorate confidence and state of mind. Swing for the fences, dudes.

IMHO, a better summary can not be written.

The only thing I must add is that a RB who is terrified of contact needs a different job. Some athletes just aren't football players.
Frustrated
Thegratefulhead : 5/20/2022 3:03 pm : link
With Saquan with Judge, but I have to be fair. Barkley is not good for what Garret wanted from the RB. Barkley belongs in a spread offense with a zone blocking system that allows him to use his athletic ability to win. Trying to make Barkley into Derek Henry is the opposite of everything Judge said he would do.

Barkley is very motivated and Daboll/Kafka are not stupid. If the kid can catch a break and stay healthy, a man as talented as Barkley with a chip on his shoulder could do damage in 2022 running behind Neal. 80-90 receptions as well.
Avoids contact, can't block.

Not sure I've ever been more disappointed in a high Giants draft pick. He will be gone after this year, maybe during the year if he shows enough that someone else wants him.

Schoen will have a very hard time letting him walk in FA....if the Giants have a ton of cap space.

I don't know if this is true anymore since we have Yung Joka (again making the same assumptions as for Barkley), Wan'dale Robinson, and Thibodeaux.

First, because of his injury history. Second, because of the overall poor track record for RBs in their 2nd contracts. Third, because of the money a second contract for a #2 pick will cost. There just wouldn't be enough there to warrant it I believe that regardless of how good he is this season.

Nobody here wants Barkley, Jones or by extension, the Giants to do poorly.

They just think they suck.

It makes you mad so you play mental gymnastics until you can arrive at:

They are bad fans because they don't want the team to succeed.

It is recurring theme that needs to end.

You don't like their statements?

Use real data to refute them or STFU babies.

You can't refute their point because it is subjective?

Then why are your damn knickers in such a wad?

FFS lighten up.

The Giants are a poorly run, bottom of the NFL franchise until they prove otherwise.

Over a decade ago is now firmly the past.

We are what we are.

If Barkley or Jones have a decent year, it does not change the past, the critics were correct, that ship has sailed.

EVERYONE gets that neither one has been put in fair conditions, but players drafted in the top 6 should be more than system players.

Don't you feel like Thibs and Neal could change our stars if great?

Barkley and Jones are not great, that is the point. They will do much better this year, how could they not?

Exactly -

He can only ask for what other RBs are getting with similar stats. Just because it will be his 2nd contract doesn't mean the Giants are going to pay him beyond what he is worth.

They have to pay someone to run the ball. If his demands are rational - why not him? I think he is a great person who seems to be a good teammate and stays out of trouble off the field. They have to pay somebody.

It is really my hope that the same 10 to 20 negative posters who post and create every OL sucks, Jones and Saquon sucks thread take it up the ass this year. I could think nothing that would be sweeter than to see Jones and Saquon have incredible years.

So because they've been having terrible years does that mean you've been the one actually taking it up the ass?

I'm looking forward to Jones and Barkley being completely forgettable ex-Giants in 2023.

The whole team has been terrible you dolt. If the do improve because their teammates around them improve you will will say see anyone can play in the system they still suck.

The team has sucked not just them. As for taking it in the ass the 3 words you have heard more than any one on this site, BEND OVER TERPS !!!

I'd rather see the Giants go 0-17 than you and the other nozzles on this board like you be correct

And there it is. Finally one of the "Jones sucks Barkley sucks" crowd admits their reality. He just said he'd rather the Giants go 0-17 than admit he was wrong. They know if the Giants do well they look stupid so they're rooting for the Giants to lose

Oh, I don't care about being wrong

I just don't want the arrogant jackwads like you, blows, etc to be right.

That make no sense. The ones saying "lets see Jones and Barkley with better coaching and a better OL" are the arrogant ones?

So let me get this straight because I hope that Jones and Barkley do well I am a Jack wad. Interesting. Well, we now know who it is that is telling Terps to BEND OVER!
If we give Saquon a second contract...

We'd be loco. I don't care how well he plays this fall.
Jones didn't
Manny in CA : 5/20/2022 8:38 pm : link

He pooped in his drawers. Both the Bills and Chargers had crappy O-lines, never-the-less their young QB's play basically carried those teams.

Teams FOCUSED on Allen & Herbert, their excellent play enabled (that word again) the running backs to make good plays.

I'm here to tell you, nobody comes back fully from an ACL injury as severe as Saquon suffered in one year; never-mind the horrific ankle he later suffered ...

I saw, some other silly poster today say that Barkley's ankle injury is somehow his fault; I call that irrational bad will.

Let's see what a healthy Saquon can do with a "middlin'" O-line that most likely feature the interior manned by other team's cast-offs.

Again, this makes no sense. If you dont have an elite QB, you need elite playmakers. If Barkley comes close to his rookie season, why wouldnt you try to sign him?

If he has a great year, you have to ask why.

If it's because of the OL and the coaching, then why pay him when you can start fresh with a younger, healthier, cheaper RB for a head coach that can scheme a run game and an OL that can lead the way.

We saw Barkley do things other RBs cant do his rookie year. Why would you think another cheaper RB can do what he does if he has that type of year again? If the offense clicks, why would you change it?
Because for all that he did, they didn't win anything with it
Ten Ton Hammer : 5/20/2022 9:09 pm : link
I've seen teams win super Bowls without a star at RB.

I've (and you) seen the Giants win Super Bowls and dominate the NFL with a league-best rushing attack without a star RB.

It's nice. It's certainly not necessary. And any money you spend there, you're not spending elsewhere. You can get highly talented RBs in round 2.

No, you're not a jackwad for wanting Jones and Barkley to do well

You're a jackwad for harassing those who don't share your opinion, as evidenced by the bend over comments.

Hey Scooter, getting tired of the same crap posts for the last 3 years from the same posters. Who gives a shit that they hate certain players. If we do not already know where they stand by now you are living in a bubble. This is the same tired BS posts for 3 yrs. I come on here to see if there is any new news instead you get the same crappy threads every day. We should be behind the coaches the front office and our players, instead the same computer GM's come on pontificating tellimg us all how much smarter they think they are instead of our teams decision makers. I am confident the people we have in place are making better decisions. If Saquon and Jones are here after next season I will believe it is because our decision makers see something in them to help the team win.If they are gone I will be okay with that too for the same reason. Can't we for one day go without this guy or that guy sucks, we should not have drafted him we were so stupid we did. You have not had enough of this garbage yet? Seriously?
