Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney had a minor arthroscopic knee procedure, sources say, which is why he’s been in a red jersey on the side at spring OTA practices. But he is expected to be fine and ready for training camp

coaching staffs - unsolicited - volunteered in 2021 and now this spring that Toney is an excellent classroom student. They weren't asked that, they volunteered it.

Toney was behind - not because he couldn't learn - but because (1) he wasn't there, and (2) when he finally did show up in the summer, he couldn't practice.

You can bad-mouth Toney about a lot of things, but this talk about him not being classroom smart is completely opposite of what two coaching staffs have said.

Every coach at every level from high school up to this staff has raved about his football IQ.

That's a brain dead observation by one of this site's least entertaining posters.

Yeah, but it only takes one guy and it becomes a "thing" because someone said it.

Indeed. Stupid statements like that deserve to be corrected.

There's a lot to be suspect of with Toney, but his football IQ and classroom work is not among that list.
I’ve been hard in Toney for obvious reasons

But he’s a talented player and it’s pretty clear Schoen likes him. The funny thing is, he talked specifically about how bad information makes his life miserable because he has to deal with it with the player and agent. Hence the reflect on what I said comment.

Toney for me is his availability on the field. He has shown flashes of brilliance in the short time he was on the field as a rookie who is still learning the position. The off the field stuff hasn't bothered me, he seems to be a bit immature but not necessarily a bad person.

I don't think he meant it literally. I think he just meant that Toney seems to act in a non-productive way. Not that he's stupid, just that he acts stupidly.

Poor judgment, questionable choices

If he has a high IQ than something has been suppressing it...

Doesn't mean he's smart, but could mean he's smart about how to play football?

Maybe he's dumb as shit........

Gotta figure out what motivates a person to play football at this level.

It can’t be understated how toxic the Giants fanbase has become in the last decade.

I remember going to a few games in the mid-late 90's. Brown/Graham/Kanell hahaha....They were toxic back then too, lol.

regime will find out if Toney is worth it or not. I think Daboll will be able to push the right buttons to motivate Toney in the right direction - or find out that he will not respond positively. Parcells could do that.

BTW, I do not remember two gun incidents, just the air rifle one which Toney's old man took care of in one night and that problem never returned. And, FWIW, what he did was not illegal - though it was not smart in the least.

Most people mature at different ages. One thing, I do not remember Toney being a problem off the field since he was drafted. Yes, he was tossed for throwing a punch, but it was in response to a cheap shot/late hit. He knew he made a mistake in letting his temper get to him and said so after the game.

I am pretty certain, Schoen and Daboll will cut bait quickly if they do not like what they see this summer.

let's get it all straight.

Toney is bad in the meeting rooms despite what the coaches say.

Plus, he has his head up his ass because he gets injured a lot.

I didn't say anything about his meeting room behavior.

I recalled some of his antics last year. Showed up to his first camp late, and then practiced barefoot because of some shoe problem....way to impress your new coaches. Played sporadically early in the season. Put together a decent game against Dallas, but managed to get himself ejected for fighting, with his team getting blown-out......where's his head again?? Played small against KC, while his team lost by only 3 points. Missed a month of games in December, averaged under 10 yards a catch.

You can call that whatever you want to, but I have my own opinion of it.

A stronger coaching staff would have handled and eliminated some of the things you mention

Plenty of optimism each year. Starting each season 0-2 quickly douses it though.

The Giants performance this past decade has actually created a growing band of realists. No allergy pill needed.

I can't complain about Toney's play on the field. The problem is injuries and there's probably nothing you can do about that. Especially not the Giants.
What I'd like to know is...
Klaatu : 5/22/2022 11:06 am : link
How come a guy who calls himself a "memelord" never posts any memes? What's up with that?

Anyway, no one has been more critical of Toney than I've been, however, there's no denying that he's talented, and I'm sure Daboll and Kafka plan on exploiting his talents as long as he's here and he's healthy.
Unfortunately, I think for most,
colin : 5/22/2022 11:29 am : link
Toney’s most egregious errors are simply that he’s not Devonta Smith or Micah Parsons. Or that he’s a rapper. Or that he seemed like a panic pick.

Injuries suck, there’s been a few weird moments that could be painted as a “pattern of behavior,” but I think some fans just may never like him because of those first three. Kinda in the same way Eli never got past spurning the Chargers, or not being his brother, in some fans eyes.

We’re a fickle bunch, us fans. We make snap judgements on players and spend most of their career using bits and piece of info, leaked, well sourced or not, trying to support that narrative. Trying to make ourselves “right,” instead of appreciating the player. I know I do it too. Honestly, I did it with Toney for a while myself. I think Toney got a raw deal in a lot of fans eyes.

He’s an A+ talent who’s been hurt. Everything else is pretty much just hearsay, combined with a little bit of peculiar.

that gets a knee injury is a pretty big deal IMO. You take the special agility out of his game and there's not much to get excited about. Hopefully there is no loss in ability but maybe that explains the Wan'dale pick a little better.

Gadget player is hugely important in Daboll's scheme, and they have little confidence in Toney.

Completely made up take on what the Giants think. Basically ignores everything Schoen and Daboll have said to date. I guess they can be lying, but that’s some long con theyve got going on then.
Why so sensitive?

This is the reality that provides intel to the decisions that were made. I didn't make anything up. It's a timeline.

I realize they made positive comments about having them both, and it's not like it isn't true. It's nice to have both. But c'mon. There was also smoke they were trying to trade Toney. I'd keep an open mind about this, and digest public comments with a grain of salt.
