Cole Strange thought he was being pranked when the #Patriots called him.

"Sir, I don’t mean to be disrespectful at all, but I’ve gotta know because I’ve got some crazy friends. Is this a prank?"

Then Bill Belichick started talking.

I still can't believe they chose him in round 1

Not only that but they also traded up for Tyquan Thornton in round 2 when he was projected to go in the 4-6 round range.

Considering we also drafted a Day 3 WR in Round 2 we shouldn’t be talking

Probably, Strange will probably develop into the next Logan Mankins.
For all of BB's greatness....

He's no wiz when it comes to drafting. Ask a Patriots fan about N'Keal Harry, Haha.

Agreed. Brady bailed him out. The luxury of having a HoF QB is incalculable, nonetheless a franchise one.

Very true. I still find that odd. My theory is that the Schoen was targeting him and wanted to get him before a team like the Chiefs or Bills did to go along with the fact that he trusted his coaches more than he did the Giants' scouts to make picks/have significant input this year, which I don't think will be the case next year.

Well I did see him working on his free agency targets while on a treadmill. Maybe he can’t multitask.
Belichick is not

a great drafter. He misses on a lot of guys. Fortunately, he usually has a ton of picks, so he still gets enough right.

has had his toxic wasteland drafts like Giants Wilson draft class. But he seems to regularly develop mid-low rounder OLmen which has decimated the Giants unable to do that for 10+ years.
Belichick's superpower...
BamaBlue : 5/21/2022 3:39 pm : link
is the ability to coach-up 'good' players. Belichick's schemes, and creativity maximize the abilities of the players (and coaches). There are numerous cases where a stand-out player, or coach for the Patriots becomes a free agent and never repeats their success.

Him trading back drives some of my cousins-big Patriots fans-crazy. I remember one joking years ago that BB was trying to trade back to the 2045 NFL Draft.

The Patriots are notorious for missing on WRs. Chris Simms could not believe the Thornton pick.
