For people who don't know, this is the original Hong Kong movie on which The Departed is based. And it's excellent.

I like Find Me Guilty, more of a courtroom movie than mob movie, but it's a mob trial. Stars Vin Diesel and Peter Dinklage.

but I actually enjoyed the Knockaround Guys. Particularly, the scene in which Vin Diesel kicks the ever-loving crap out of the guy who played Waingro in Heat.

With John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton.

It's been a while since I've seen it but I remember this being a solid and underrated gangster flick. I think I may have actually heard about it in an old bbi thread.

Walken is great and supporting cast is as well

with Chazz Palminteri (Now youse can't leave ), Vera Farmiga ( from "The Departed" ), Paul Walker( from Fast and Furious ), Arthur J. Nascarella( Carlo in the Sopranos ) and others. I'm surprised this movie never got more attention. Its told mostly through the viewpoint of a low level soldier in Jersey.

BTW this movie is not to be confused with the cop buddy movie "Running Scared" with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines, which was also pretty good.

"A History of Violence" is a sneaky good mob movie by Cronenburg.

might be my favorite mob movie not directed by Coppola.

this movie is crazy. Really entertaining and and takes a detour that still gives me the creeps. Makes you think Paul Walker maybe had more in him as an actor than he was able to show.

I downloaded it by mistake, I wanted to download Scorsese's Irishman to watch on a plane.

But I actually liked Kill the Irishman better. Solid cast (staring the guy who was Titus Pullo in HBO's Rome, plus Vincent D'Onofrio, Christopher Walken and Val Kilmer). Came out in 2011.

I watched Carlito's Way last night. I had remembered it being better. I thought there were some terrible acting performances in it. Scarface was on at the same time, glad I recorded it.

"Federal Hill", a mob movie, takes place in Providence, RI. Federal Hill is the Italian section of Providence.

I lived in Rhode Island for a few years. One noticeable feature was that most of the restaurants only took cash for payments of your bill.

Johnston, Rhode Island was the real home of the Mafia types. The government officials in Johnston once bought used cars for their police department. All the odometer mileages had been turned back.

It was tough to distinguish between the Mafia types and the State Police. Buddy Cianci was the Mayor of Providence when I was there. He was charged after torturing his wife's lover with cigarette burns. Buddy eventually went to jail and later hosted a radio talk show.

A standard saying in Rhode Island was that if you invited the Governor of the State to dinner he would show up. Another peculiarity was that when a red light turned green drivers making left turns would go first.

Amazing film.

Because of the lack of Italians but Pay Back with Mel Gibson is pretty solid.

Payback is a great choice and a fun watch.

Road to Perdition is very good, but I wouldn't call it under the radar.

but a pair of brilliant British crime dramas is The Long Good Friday and Mona Lisa. I very highly recommend them both.

but Layer Cake was very good and more recent The Gentleman was worth watching.

with Tom Hardy (playing the Kray twins) is pretty good. Probably a well known movie in the UK, but it basically did nothing at the box office in the US.

Vin Diesel, Barry Pepper, John Malcovich, Dennis Hopper, Seth Green....

The wannabe sons of mobsters go to a remote town in the Midwest, and get themselves into more trouble than anyone could anticipate.

Was in theaters recently and now streaming, got little fanfare but was riveting

Filmed in Astoria, Queens in my neighborhood!
