That would explain his not knowing what was going on around him. When you see people in a k hole they are out on their feet....swaying back and forth completely out of it....no sense of balance. That would explain why he couldnt get out of the way of a dump truck. Oof.....what a tragedy.
and unspeakably tragic for the family left behind, when all of the rather unseemly rumors that swirled around the accident (drunk, high, with another woman, etc.) turn out to be true.
After midnight? It was 6:30 in the morning. He probably had some time to come down.
I mean, we know the results of his blood tests. If he had already "come down," he certainly didn't come very far down.
Depends on when or if he stopped drinking. I've covered cases in the mid 0.3's, and have seen 0.42, which is in the fatal range. The highest ever recorded in a living person is more than 0.9.
And then there's the drugs.
anyone under the age of 30 and out in public after midnight is 90% likely to be either drunk or high.
That doesn't make this any easier to stomach nor does it necessarily confirm that Haskins was out of his mind.

Thats not the way ketamine works. If you party with ketamine, your motor skills are shot for almost 12 hours. Its a disassociative so it essentially separates your mind from control of your body. People I know who did it a lot at once used make fun of themselves for "walking like a tyrannosaurus" hunched over and with your hands out in front of you or "walking like Spider Man" (trying to hold on to the wall while walking) because your equilibrium and balance is shot. Something tells me he did a line not long before the car trouble.
Anyone walking along a highway, without a broken down vehicle, is likely intoxicated.
He wasn't just walking "along" a highway, he walked into it per ESPN's reporting on the Highway Patrol's report. He was hit "in the center lane":
"A final crash report released by the Florida Highway Patrol in April said Haskins was walking on the westbound side of I-595 when he entered into the travel lanes and into the path of the dump truck, which was traveling in the center lane. The front left of the dump truck struck Haskins.
The report concluded that Haskins was improperly in the roadway, and the driver of the dump truck wasn't found to have taken any actions that contributed to the accident, based on the judgment of the investigation officer. Haskins was also struck by a second car traveling beside the dump truck that took evasive maneuvers to avoid him, but partially hit him on its right side undercarriage, according to the report."
90%? I think that's being generous...I'd go 98%. If I was up post midnight in my 20s, you can be damn sure I was on something/imbibing.
You guys obviously don't know people who work night shifts. In my 20s and 30s I routinely was coming home from work at 1 or 2 am, especially on Friday and Saturday.
True, but you were part of the 2%. And I kid....it is lower than 98%, but most people up post midnight in their 20s sure as hell ain't coming back from the late shift @ work.
in addition to having a .24. Really sad story. Saying he wasn't thinking clearly is an understatement.
Hallucinogen, used to to drug folks for sexual acts.
NO wonder he walked in the middle of a road.
Definitely a sad story.....I think he may have been drugged at the club he was at prior to running out of fuel.
Its not a hallucinogen technically. If you take enough of it can feel like you are hallucinating. But it is not a "trip" at all. Its also not "for sexual acts." People take it because it can increase auido and visual experiences. I did it a few times in college and I didnt like feeling so helpless. It affects your speech to where you cant get a sentence out.
“According to an ME’s investigative report, investigators found his car on the side of I-595, a “female companion” inside the vehicle. The unnamed woman told FHP that he’d left looking for gas. The report noted that the Medical Examiner’s Office did not know the “nature” of Haskins’ relationship with the woman.”
We need a medical examiner to establish he picked up a girl at the club and was taking her home to smash?
Mostly used to put people out for surgery but there's growing use as an infusion tomtreat depression as well as larger doses (still not reaching the recreational level) for trauma therapy.
But anyone surprised? I live a few Miles from that spot. No one sober is getting out of their car and walking across that road at anytime of the day. NEver mind one of the busier times.

Still sucks big time. Kid had a lot of quality life ahead of him...and his parents will be tortured for the rest of their lives. Awful.
Very upsetting.
I never even heard of Ketamine until now. Looked it up ... wow. Tragic but he should have been nowhere near a car.
+1

We just had that in the NFL last year.
Thankfully he didn't hurt anyone else.
