Former #Giants Pro Bowl offensive lineman David Diehl announced on Instagram he’s starting his coaching career by joining the Memphis Tigers’ staff. The two-time Super Bowl champion left tackle will serve as an offensive analyst.
Good for him. Much more demanding than what he was doing now

but, with football, there is no substitute and coaching is as close as you can get to playing again. Good luck. I wonder how he'll do. Just knowing what to do is a small part of coaching today. A huge part of coaching today is how to connect with people and how you can push their buttons in a positive way. The old school method isn't that effective anymore but college may be different. Your message doesn't really get stale with the constant turnover of players. We'll miss him on tv. One of the best segments the Giants had this offseason was when he and O'Hara were breaking down the OL. He was very good.
Good for DD

Great guy and great Giant. Wish him health, wealth, happiness, and success.
So no more football Sunday’s with the Moose on the FAN.

Maybe they’ll replace him with Ereck Flowers.
That's too bad

I really enjoyed Diehl on tv and he certainly took a pay cut to get into coaching. Diehl will also be investing significantly more time in coaching than he was on tv.

I actually believe Diehl will become a very good coach in the future. He didn't make it in the NFL because of his talent. He was an average athlete who had a good career due to his work ethic and intelligence. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as an NFL OL coach within the next 5 years.
Good luck to him. I remember when he was a rookie in training camp

and Tiki said of the fifth round draft pick, "Diehl's a steal".
Love DD

I was on the sideline before a game in KC a few years ago. I use a wheelchair and there wasn't a great way for me to get off the field before the game. I was milling around, waiting for an Arrowhead security guy to escort me to a tunnel to get to an elevator, and Diehl is jogging towards me and underhand tosses me a football. I had my Giants stuff on, and he just said "that's for you, boss" and jogged to the locker room.

Coincidentally, I had to go right by the Giants locker room to get up to the seats, and Charlie Weiss was coming out. He was HC of Kansas at the time and he took a pic with me and my buddy.

Great story.
Good for DD.

Great Giant, though I swear he was attempting to get Eli killed his last few seasons as a Giant. Go back to some of those game threads & I'm ripping him, Haha.
Question about this

As I’m not familiar with the how the coaching circuit works but isn’t this kind of a low place for a former player with the resume of Diehl? And I mean that with obviously no disrespect to Diehl or Memphis, just thinking a former 10 year starter, Pro Bowler and 2-time SB champion could land an assistant OL coach gig at one of the major programs or even in the NFL if he made his intentions known throughout his network.
Good luck Coach

We chatted about the upcoming BigTen football season. Couldn't have been nicer considering we were sort of trespassing.

seems underratedly smart from what I can tell from his TV time and his positional versatility.

Seems like the Giants were asleep at the wheel again and missed out on Diehl for coaching opportunities.
