Hopefully we catch The Giants in a lull. Belt to the IL.
They’ve been incredibly consistent. 1 series tie, 1 series loss, the rest wins. I don’t believe they’ve swept a series either, though I could be wrong. Just keep winning 2 out of 3 and 3 out of 4
and Wilmer Flores DHing what the? Didn't he bat like 8th as a met?
Wilmer has been pretty damn solid for a long time.
That's true , it just seems like there are just former Mets like Matz and him that never seem to do anything when they place against the Mets . But otherwise were pretty decent since leaving the team.
I feel like I need to temper my enthusiasm, but I love this team. They do what they need to do to win, as evidenced by Peterson's pitching tonight (please don't make me sorry I wrote this, David).
Crawford’s HR was wind aided. Wind was blowing probably 15-20 mph on a line from 1B to LF corner.
Crawford hit in the right place. My point? Peterson pitched even better than it looks in the box score. His body language was confident. Did not waste time between pitches. Looked in control.
Let’s Go Mets chants were very audible
Only negative I noticed is that Escobar does not get a great jump on the ball off the bat. He is sure handed but his range is not great. Hard to see on TV but I was sitting down 3B line and it was pretty clear.
did anyone catch the highlight of the Giants fan heckling McNeil before his HR? He was chiding him about his lack of power, telling him he needed to work on his legs. I think McNeil shut him up.
should lose playing time to LG unless he heats up. I believe he's the WORST offensive player in baseball during the month of May. I love what he brings off the field and maybe it's just a bad month but he's been that bad.

Escobar has always been a bit streaky of a hitter. I am more worried about Mark Canha. If LG is playing well I would have no issues with him getting more starts at 2B and McNeil in LF especially with a groundball pitcher like Peterson on the mound.

Mike, I'm not saying Escobar is done but he IS 33. He's hitting .171 with a .506 OPS over his last 4 weeks, he's not a great fielder so if he's not hitting he should lose some PT until he is.
The only interesting thing I have taken away from this silly Mussina/number retirement story is that Greg Maddux opted not to have a team logo on his plaque. Far superior numbers with Atlanta and "most" non-Cubs fans remember his as a Brave

The heckler was incredibly annoying the entire game... was yelling at every player. I was getting really really tired of it.

The elevated K rate is troubling but his hard hit % is right around his career norms. I think he's still the same player, he may just be one of those things about playing in NY...shit, maybe it's a weather thing...spent the last couple years in Arizona.
I think he will come around. I just don't want to see the defense slip, there's some plays early that I've thought "isn't this guy supposed to be here for great defense?"
It's nice to see him get a couple of hits last night, maybe this will get him going.
Peterson pitching well last night is a very good sign concerning how
Last thing I read was that he was starting to throw?
Bassitt, Carasco, Walker, Peterson and hopefully McGill can get them to the All-Star break....but until MeGill returns, who's the fifth starter?
Began throwing off flat ground yesterday. Won't be back on the 27th (the soonest possible) but barring setbacks it sounds like he could be back within the next 2 weeks.

I know I’ve been MIA. But I thought I’d update:
I’m crushing rehab. my body feels like it’s moving better, and is stronger, than it’s been in a minute. The arm feels way better and we’re quickly approaching imaging to see if we’re good to ramp up. Can’t wait to contribute

“We have such a special group that I don’t really want to be a distraction and hurt that in any way,” Bassitt said. “I love it here. I love everyone here so far. I would love to do something long-term, but I am so focused on this year and what this team needs right now that it’s hard to think about 2023, ’24.”
but I wouldn't pony up the cash for deGrom at this point and I wouldn't be sad if he opts out.
Having Cohen as owner helps to mitigate losing a starter like deGrom and it enables a team to take that risk, but I hate relying on him and I don't think he's ever going to be healthy enough where every start I'm not holding my breath to see if he makes it through.

it's a tough call and just depends on the #'s and if he comes back and shows he can actually pitch and stay healthy.
if he does i could maybe see giving him a similar deal to scherzer.
more than that seems like a crazy risk though, especially if he doesn't come back and finish the year at a CY level like Scherzer did last year (which is a high bar). he's about to turn 34 so we'd be talking about his age 35, 36, 37 seasons.
all the more reason to get Bassitt signed asap. "100m" was thrown out a few times in the article from today, that seems aggressive given his age. a 4x90m with the 4th year being a fair vesting option seems like a good deal for both sides.
Heyman also noted, Mets were “raising their eyebrows,” about deGrom threatening to opt out of his contract.
He and Sherman both seem to suggest deGrom might not be happy in & might want to leave NY.

These types of comments are so frustrating. They never provide any context behind a player’s “dissatisfaction” and they cropdust these comments for clicks, presumably.
WTF would deGrom (who hasn’t pitched in a year) be frustrated about outside of his own body breaking down? Maybe he thinks he’s underpaid? Well, maybe he should actually get on a mound.
But the reality is - his "Im opting out" was nothing more than a proactive way to avoid having to talk about his arm all spring... it was a brilliant move, in all honesty.
They’ve been incredibly consistent. 1 series tie, 1 series loss, the rest wins. I don’t believe they’ve swept a series either, though I could be wrong. Just keep winning 2 out of 3 and 3 out of 4
Speedy you live in SF?
Never really expect to see him get an infield hit, but that'll do it
Love Alonso but I dont know about that.
Everyone is playing their role well.
Wilmer has been pretty damn solid for a long time.

JD is not like Dom. Davis needs to play every day at DH. Enough with the Dom BS. Sit his ass or send him to AAA.
+1. I feel the same way. BTW, I'm in FL also, Lake Worth, Palm Beach County.

113 wRC+ as a member of the Giants, he'd be one of the Mets best hitters in 2022 if he did that here.

someone posted another video of him throwing the other day supposedly he wants to pitch for mets. i'd roll the dice, why not.

Robinson Canó is 3-for-21 with zero extra base hits to start his career with the Padres.

that was cathartic.
We hear absolutely nothing about deGrom and his “recovery”. What’s been so bad about it?
I don't expect an answer but that’s why I hate these “non-answer” sound bytes by the media.

I almost wonder if the its the Mets that are holding him back knowing the 2nd half of the season is where they need him.
