Simms on his podcast today did numbers 26-30 and daniel jones wasnt on it. it seems like Daniel Jones might not make the top 40 QB list.
the next 25 guys are all named below.
he still hasnt ranked 1)zach wilson, 2)lawrence, 3)baker, 4)hurts, 5)feilds, 6)garroplo, 7)wentz who i can see 8)DJ ranking ahead of some of those guys. probably not ahead of 9)mac jones.
Its clear theres an 10)Allen, 11)Mahomes, 12)Brady, 13)Stafford, 14)Lamar, 15)Watson, 16)Burrow, 17)Carr, 18)Herbert, 19)Wilson, 20)Rodgers, 21)Murray top 12.
The top 12 is clear in my books.
22)Ryan, 23)Cousins, 24)Dak, 25)Tannehill next 4 in my book to round out a clear top 16.
if i missed one guy - DJ will not be on this list.
but i guess he can still be on the list - i thought he would have appeared 26-30. didnt appear 30-40 either. wonder where he will be.
I am more bullish....
This is without a doubt the biggest upgrade in OL talent around the league from last year to this year.
This is without a doubt the biggest upgrade in HC/OC/Playcaller around the league from last year to this year.
Plus he got rid of evan engram.....thats 10 TOs a year less for sure.
if he stays heathly with no injures for 17 games and can run well - he will be top 15 next year and we can get him for like a cheap contact 25-30 million a year.
i think he does his podcasts every Mon/Wed. so we wil see Wed. I cant imagine he wont appear 20-25....but maybe he is off the list entirely. would not shock me.
Watson as well due to him not playing with suspension and off field stuff.
Carr is good but not in that top 9 class.
I think the top 9 are also very clear.
Mahomes, Allen, Brady, Rodgers, Herbert, Burrow, Lamar, Wilson, Stafford - clear top 9 in some order.
I dont think anyone can crack that this year with these pre season rankings.
I have nothing else to add.
As you were.

Lamar is dominant in the regular season, but can he hang in the pocket against playoff caliber Defenses? Dynamic player with a doubt, but I think someone will overpay.

Based on his playoff record, it’s clear that Jackson can’t hang with the big boy defenses.
At least not yet, anyway.

He wasn't ranking them. He was just creating a numbered list of 25 quarterbacks who he thinks would be somewhere in the top 25. He does not believe Trevor Lawrence is the #1 ranked qb.
This is a laughable statement.

This is a laughable statement.
As bad as Daniel Jones was under Jason Garrett, Justin Fields was even worse. 7 TD/10 INT in 12 games (10 starts). Nearly 12% Sack percentage is insane. Fields actually had a lower TD% than Jones did last year. He even fumbled more than Jones did (12 versus 7).
On a separate note, I just realized my last post should have said "WITHOUT a doubt."

Remember, Jones has been in the league for three years but it is unclear just how talented he is. Justin Fields started 12 games. The book is closed on him. We know what he is.
When you see statements like this you should know the person writing doesn't get all tangled up in thinking. They are just vomiting emotions onto a keyboard.
I agree, he got lucky that one year with Allen and Lamar Jackson, and thought he was seeing every Montana/Brady in each draft.

Precisely
The New England bias is sickening. Mac Jones has a lot to prove on whether he has a ceiling worth intimidating anyone over. That playoff ass kicking should've tempered things a bit, but clearly it hasn't.
Maybe it's still early, but then he shouldn't be rated as highly as he is.
Wilson, Lance, Fields are all worth the "risk" over Mac Jones, yet are treated like projects because of W/L ratio for two of them, and because the other only has 2 NFL starts.
If the Giants were to part ways with Daniel Jones, I'd love for him to come to SF and have Kyle work with him as premier backup. Far more intriguing guy to have on the roster over McCorkle.
Jury is still out on Fields. They had below average talent on the offense last year. And it's going to be even worse this year. He's in for a big challenge.
I can't stand Hurts, but he creates more points than Jones by a significant factor. So, calling Jones "much better" doesn't make much sense.

Even just picking Darnold over sequon and then Picking a Quenton would have been better . But shurmur and gettleman

We shouldn't use talent around the QB as an excuse...ever. Evaluate his play with poor players. Fields was still bad and his offensive talent was not worse than what Jones has had to deal with. Jones is bad, Fields is bad so far. No excuses.
I'm not using excuses. Just explaining the circumstances for Fields. I have said Jones has not been dealt the best hand scores and scores of times.
FWIW, check out the players who comprised the Bears O in 2021. It's worse than what Jones had in 2019.

either hes in the list tomorrow 20-25 or hes not on the top 40. i for sure through wed see him 26-30. maybe hes off the list entirely.
Some of the young guys will be a lot better than Jones. Some won't. But you just don't know until they get more time.
but Fields is a bum after 12 games.
We continue to grade Jones on a curve. And the rest of the league, esp the NFCE, must love it.

Had Jones been drafted by another NFCE team we'd all be laughing at them
How can you evaluate a QB who has been in so many systems; with such a poor OL; without playmakers; without a healthy Barkley or run game so much of the time?
Remember, you take away his fumbles from his rookie year and he was very good. His injuries have hurt him but so has the lack of OL play and lack of healthy "go to" guys.
If we stay healthy through camp and the team gets the new offense quickly we will be able to properly judge his talent.

We don't need 6 more games.

Such a good point.
If Jones was playing this way the last three years for the Eagles - which means you have to suspend reality because the Eagles probably wouldn't be dumb enough to let it get this far - BBI would be mocking the situation and thanking the Eagles for their daftness.
Like wait a minutes. He’s the best player on a team tat can’t win more than 6!games per season for years now ? That’s like being the best student at summer school.
The problem, as we know, is it’s tough to win a championship without an elite QB. Paying a mediocre QB top QB money is not a formula for success.
Sad that a big part of me is hoping we have a bad season and get a rookie QB who will be one of those elite guys. But it’s all a crap shoot so I’ll just root for wins and hope for the best.
that was one of the better analysis of jones ive seen. thank you for posting.
