This article is saying Giants have some kind of inside track to land him. I don't know how much faith is in this article but it would be a good singing. Very durable starting center for Browns. Link - ( New Window )
There’s a Bleacher Report piece noting that he’s a free agent, and that the Giants are among the remaining teams with a question mark at center. GiantsWire picked that up.
Nothing says the Giants are looking for a center. The article that the linked article is about is a list of the writer's opinion of the 10 best free agents available
He lists the Giants as a team that Tretter would fit. Nothing says the Giants are interested in Tretter. Nothing says they have any "inside track" in the linked article or in the original article
Click thru to the article that is quoted from B/R and the Giants are listed as "potential fits"

Center might not be the most valuable position on the offensive line, but it is still surprising that there is one as good as J.C. Tretter still on the market.
Tretter's departure from Cleveland had more to do with financials and little to do with his level of play or health. He was the fifth-highest graded player on the roster by Pro Football Focus and only gave up one sack on the season.
The veteran center is set to enter his age-31 season, but health shouldn't be a concern. He has played in 16 games in each of the last five seasons.
Tretter has a wealth of experience and will bring leadership and solid play to whatever team picks him up. He's a plug-and-play starter from Day 1 who will be solid in pass protection and an asset in the run game.
Anyone with questions on the interior would benefit from bringing him on board.
Potential Fits: Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants
I mean, if that's the standard, the Giants are a potential fit for a lot of guys lol.
Would be great but is really slow season clickbait.
"Linked to the Giants" = sportswriter guessing possible landing spots for remaining free agents.
There is no link here other than someone posting an article during a slow news period.
I didnt bother reading the article but if thats what it says, then I dont have my hopes up.
Besides, Daboll already trusts Feliciano as a C, we have the rookie and possibly Lemieux at LG, Glowinski at RG....would be nice at a cheap rate, but something tells me we might be done shopping for OL barring injuries.
the team's enthusiasm for him to get his chance to start at center. they gave him a bigger year 1 cap hit than any other UFA they signed. Barring injury he's the center to start.
We’ve got Lemieux, Ezeudu and Garcia competing at LG but we need Felicano there as well? Not really which goes for this report, too.
Lemiux: guy who was never good, but looked OK compared to the horrific play on the line and coming off a major injury
Ezeudu: 3rd round rookie
Garcia: most common comparison is Will Hernandez, maybe better
This is falling into the familiar trap of hoping shit sticks on the offensive line. I'm hopeful Schoen gets it fixed but I wouldn't expect much year one at that spot.
Of course Tretter would be a great thing and Feliciano is probably better than all of those guys at LG.

I think this team is looking to the future. Getting another stopgap like Tretter who is 31 to replace a stopgap like Feliciano who is 30 doesn’t play into that. It puts off the potential development of multiple young draft choices. Now they may not make it but they need opportunities.
is the starting C, at least until he fails. He came at the price point he ddi with the agreement he is given a REAL chance to play C full-time as a starter. Unless a proven high caliber C becomes available this is not changing barring injury or Douglas beats him out this year (which I doubt). Gates is not playing until next year more than likely.
...is going to give the president of the Players Association an ID badge to enter his facility? I'm a little dubious.
Do you actually believe signing a player means they have unfettered access to go wherever they want in the building and just start going through files?
Tretter is not linked to the Giants in that article despite the OP, but it has zero to do with him being the head of the players union.
Giants need stopgap, productive vets on short deals
to get through these lean seasons while they build through the draft. Glowinski is a really good example of being able to sign a player with potentially more years to offer, while Garcia and Feliciano are year to year players. It sounds like they want JF at C this season ...

It's a moot point because Tretter isn't coming here, but if he was he'd be an anchor. An excellent 31 year old center could easily be effective for the life of the contract and allow the young guys to play their way into the lineup instead of being thrown there out of necessity.
Especially when Miami has a big need in the middle. The Dolphins remind me of the Giants last year. They added a big name WR in the offseason for their QB who is entering his make or break 3rd season. The offensive line was terrible for Miami last year so they added LT Armstead and LG Connor Williams in free agency. They still have big question marks at C and RT not to mention Armstead has never played a full season in his career. He’s coming off another serious injury and will be 31 so he likely won’t be the same great player he was.
Despite needs along the OL Miami did not select an OL in the draft just as the Giants did the year before. Miami is counting on young players C Michael Dieter and RT Liam Eichenberg to make impacts this season despite being disappointments so far in their career similar to Will Hernandez and Matt Peart.
I think Miami will struggle next season because of their offensive line.
The giants traded down with Miami last year so they could select Eichenberg in round 2. The Giants used those picks to select Azeez Ojulari and Cor’Dale Flott. So far this looks like a rare big win for the previous FO.

But they aren’t being thrown in out of necessity. They have stopgaps and potential fill ins in Feliciano, Glowinski and Garcia to give the prospects development time if needed. And I didn’t say Tretter wasn’t good I said he didn’t fit the plan.

No, I don't believe that. Just like the 'over my dead body' comment about 'hard knocks', Mara is circumspect when it comes to exposure he doesn't control through the Hanlon network.
Nothing to see here, at least not yet.

More depth wouldnt hurt though.
