The Mets have been very very good so far this year. Not only are they 29-15, but their pythagorean record is 28-16 (207 runs, 155 allowed).
ESPN's RPI ranks the Mets as the #1 team in baseball given their record and strength of schedule.

#Angels vs. #Mets game on June 12 has been picked up by ESPN Sunday night baseball and will now start at 4 p.m. PDT. There is a decent chance Noah Syndergaard will start for Halos that day.
OT/ Deesha: Jacob deGrom is back at Citi Field, still long tossing but progressing in his distance up to 95-100 feet. It's possible he could back on a mound and begin throwing bullpens this weekend.
with a walk. a 2 out walk in that situation is basically inexcusable. 4 sliders and 1 fb, none within the k zone.
drew smith giving up that homer sucks but thats why they need to put him in those situations, better to find out now pre-deadline than after when they can't add someone else.
Smith has given up a HR in 3 of his last 5 appearances
and last night's was egregious - pitch was supposed to be away and he threw it inside, missed by over a foot in that situation when you cant give up a HR. Just cannot happen
As you said, better to find out now. Which is why you dont manage every game like Game 7 of the World Series. Gotta find out what players can and cannot do
Cohen has to open the wallet for the back of the bullpen at the trade deadline. What the Mets have aint gonna cut it
didn't think his body was going to hold up and unlike Boston, I don't think this was a tar and feather a guy as he leaves town, they didn't engage him at all.
i never thought bryant made much sense on a multi-year deal
defensively he's not good anywhere, he's 30, and his bat has been in decline. even his 'bounce back' season last year was below his career averages.
in COL i figured he'd put up big numbers and make the contract look ok but i generally have no idea how he commanded a 7 year deal at that AAV. it's been 5 years since he got an MVP vote so even with no health issues going forward it's hard to see how that deal will pay off.
the comeback wins are fun and the fact that the team always fights is obviously a great sign, but id say the single best stat of the season so far is their record in games after a loss. shit happens, turn the page and get another road series win.
hopefully szpuck can get them 3-4 decent innings. day off tomorrow most of the BP should be able to pitch if necessary.
Mets are up 8 on both the Phillies and Braves. A series win on the road vs. the Giants would be huge, but hard to expect it with essentially their 9th starter going. Fortunately, Braves and Phillies play each other next two days. So, even with a loss, the Mets either lose only 1/2 game to them (if the teams split), or they pick up ground on one of them if there is a split.
The weekend series against the Phillies is the one they need to win.
Juan making his pro debut today (if you include pre-season as a debut). He's one of the most exciting pure talents in the system tools wise. Is he good? Only one way to find out.

any series can go any way so while yes the games in the philly series count double, who knows what's going to transpire. there are lots of ways to drop a series and it's just bad luck and you move on. wheeler throws a no hitter or something and you tip your cap.
the worst way to lose are late losses against your BP and in this case 2 of their best relievers. Those games have a way of lingering and can propel teams to extended bad stretches where nothing the offense or starter does feels like it's safe from an emotionally draining bp implosion. the 2019 and 2021 seasons folded for good on Diaz blow saves in early September.

Best news of the day.....lets hope he gets a Brooklyn start or 2, I will go to Coney Island for that
Sounds great...where did you read this?
Thank you!

Per Heyman on his podcast, he’s heard the Mets are targeting a late June return for Jacob deGrom.

Awesome! Thanks, again....
But he needs to eat some innings to save the pen for tomorrow
That’s the advantage of the year long audition. You get see what a guy is really like.
Giants are very familiar with Bassitt because they play Oakland every year
Fresh inning so lets see what hes got.
Who are these guys!
Lindor from third with a sac fly
Given the way the ball is carrying that could be a big run
Walk to Ruf was inexcusable
I know some have claimed he has changed and every closer blows saves. But they are really trying to convince themselves.
He is better but when the pressure intensifies, he cracks
Spider tack???
Just adding to my cranky mood
Suck it Trebeck!

dodged quite a bullet not signing Kris Bryant. Headed to the IL for the second time this year with his back issue.

He was an easy pass for me because of that.
