What is it about this offense that was different from last year; one of his remarks was “scoring points is one of our main goals”. was this not a main goal last year?
Interesting

That seems to confirm what many suspected. What a f*cking clown show.

Points?! We don't need no stinking points!
good to hear from gates doesn't sound like he will be ready for camp

but the fact that he's pushing for it seems like a good thing. I think he goes on PUP and they add a year to his deal. If injuries hit maybe he's an extra OL at the end of the year and hopefully next year he can win an IOL spot.

did you watch the games last year? I dont think Judge tried to do anything exciting on offense.
judge and garrett tried to play ball control low scoring games
Eric on Li : 5/26/2022 11:16 am : link
they wanted to slow the game down, get games to the 4th quarter, and then hopefully win close on defense.

the problem was that's not how the NFL works anymore and the defense wasn't oriented to stop anyone when the tempo picked up (as it always will in 2 minute situations).

in 2020 they won a few games when individual players on defense made big plays to end games - logan ryan jumped a few ints, williams got some big sacks, etc.

in 2021 jackson dropped an INT that would have won a game and the defense gave up points on every 2 minute drive.

but they lost games they should have won by putting those games on the defense and not aggressively trying to win on offense.

most of the good defense came at the end of 2020 during the short run where the OL played well enough for them to actually play ball control offense, in the other 25 games when they couldn't block anyone the defense failed time and time again, likely in part because they were being put in a no win situation.

he's gonna get pup'd and even if he was close, that might be the right move any way. free extra player. same thing with peart even though i suspect he's closer to the field than gates.
I swear there were numerous instances

Last season where the offense was absolutely satisfied or content with the 4th down punt and failed drive.

Judge was a fucking nightmare of a hire. We all loved him, myself included but I never saw a coach all but celebrate failure like he did.

Scoring points has been a lost art of the NYG over these years...

IMO, last year Judge/Garrett were more interested in Time of Possession and keeping the game close than opening it up to score points. Their whole deal seemed to be to limit the opposing teams chances, and win a close one at the end. Circa 199 Super Bowl vs the Bills
Gates is a tough dude but that injury is a year-plus deal
regulator : 5/26/2022 11:59 am : link
He's not even at the point where he can be training to play football... still actively rehabbing and some months away. Thrilled he's making progress from what is, by all accounts, a career-threatening injury (and he might not be able to come back in the end) but anyone expecting to see him this season will probably be disappointed.
Giants played to keep games close
kelly : 5/26/2022 12:44 pm : link
I don't think they believed they could win. But to them keeping games close was a sign of progress.

The double kneel down says it all.
Gates is my favorite Giant. I don't know when he'll be ready, but

I know he's already played tackle, guard and center at a high level. I hope he's a Giant for his whole career.

You should probably mentally prep yourself as it's very possible his career is over. Almost no chance he plays this season and if he can return in 2023 he'll have a big hill to climb to make a roster.

What makes you think it was? You definitely couldn't tell by the play on the field.
