Nasty Nestor vs Ryan Yarbrough
The New York Yankees announced today that they have signed three-time All-Star INF Matt Carpenter to a Major League contract and added him to the active roster.
Quote:
I always felt sort of neutral about him, though it's been a few years since I've listened to him. Last inning when Andujar evidently beat out a hard smash that the 1st baseman couldn't pick on a short hop, Sterling rambled on for close to a minute after whether or not it should be a hit or an error before finally adding as an afterthought, "Oh, and Judge kept running from 2nd base, by the way, so he scored too to make it 3-0."
I'm going to have to look for a stream before tomorrow night's game.
He mentioned Judge scoring immediately, then went on his ramble. It did finish with "anyway Judge also scored " but it was mentioned before too
I was more upset with his "driven deep to right" on rizzos ball
Thanks. All I heard was "1st baseman can't pick the throw; run scores so it's 2-0."
Nestor is just amazeballs.
5-0
5-0
Judge is...yes. More cushion for Nestor.
He always lets a guy start an inning and pulls him right away. Just get the reliever in.
Nasty Nestor is the ACE of this staff.
Yup. Too bad about giving up the shutout. Agree with the comments above about just letting Peralta start the inning. Nestor was already @ 100+ pitches. But Nestor was awesome. Gallo ==> still a problem though.
It just makes no sense.
I think he is 100% right.
Mushnick - ( New Window )
It just makes no sense.
Because Cash is probably the best manager in the AL.
It just makes no sense.
Every year their lineup is chock full of journeyman scrubs. So goddamned annoying.
I think he is 100% right. Mushnick - ( New Window )
Hmmm ... has anyone ever seen Mushnick and Greg on LI in the same room at the same time? Basically what Greg said.
Quote:
Mushnick has an article excoriating Manfred for his handling of Anderson/Donaldson(and more).

Oddly all of us kind of said Donaldson is a douche, even if he is on the Yanks. Did not realize Anderson has a history of fines and suspensions.
Anyway, screw him and Donaldson is still a douche.

Never cared for Donaldson but I think the outcry is absurd. Maybe they should start awarding bonuses to players that report on others for swearing too?
Big win.
5.5 baby. 3 more with the Rays and then Angels coming in so nothing easy right now. Can't believe we signed Matt Carpenter, lol. The injuries and Covid have somewhat decimated us overnight.
Plus Miggy is looking comfortable both in LF and at the plate.
But Anderson is an ass too, and the incident in question has to do with that.
God those Toronto teams were easy to hate
@ktsharp
Nestor Cortes is the 1st pitcher in Yankees history with an ERA below 1.75 and at least 60 K through his first 9 games of a season.

It just makes no sense.
In fairness, this was their B-squad vs lefty Nestor. They sat their lefties: Kiermaier (who likes to be called "The Outlaw"--lame), Ji Man, Lowe, Brett Phillips.
If you look at Gallo's career stats and remove the "outlier" 2019 where he batted a whopping .253, the guy is a career .200 hitter at best. All that's different is that his HRs are down. It isn't like this is a .300 hitter whose numbers have mysteriously fallen off the table now that he's arrived in NY. This is Dave Kingman with a fraction of the HRs. How long can they keep running this guy out there to strike out 3 times every night?

It's got to be mental. Some guys can't hack it in the big city. You have to have a certain makeup to play for the Yankees and he just can't play here. It seemed like a perfect fit for a lefty with power and a short porch. You just can't keep the guy when he's hitting like .165 for average. They need to bring up a minor leaguer and give him a shot. Gallow will never be a Yankee for long. A .312 slugging ave after 45 games is pretty pathetic. Even the catcher Trevino has a higher slugging average. They really need to replace him. He'll do fine anywhere else. He just can't play here anymore!

It is not playing in NYC that is screwing him up. Correct, he is just what he is a whiffer that occasionally hits a long ball.
Hope Miggy gets his hitting going. He will play a decent OF.
Yep, absolutely.
Oh wait, that's not him.
Nice win, give the Rays a smack in the mouth first time out.
He has incentive from home. No win, no boobs :-)
What an amazing story Cortes has been since last year!
All hands on deck for this team at this point, the transaction wire has been busy...
Verlander has pitched 6 innings in two years before this season. It’s hard to imagine him pitching enough innings this season to win the Cy Young. But maybe the Astros don’t give a damn and will ride him until he breaks. It wouldn’t totally surprise me I guess
Well he’s been doing it since last season, so it’s been sustainable to this point. Most fantasy owners are big on name recognition and most of them probably think the same as you and are skeptical so you’re likely not going to get proper value for him in a trade. Unless you get a return worthy of an ace, you’re better off keeping him. You will likely be low balled in any trade offers, imo

Since Odor hit Bautista with that right cross, I started calling him 'Roughneck' Odor, it fits.
I also don't condone fighting, but I enjoyed that punch.

I have Nestor Cortes on my fantasy team who has been outstanding, do you think I should consider selling high on him? Not so sure this is sustainable for him.

Thank you BBS. I’m going to hold. He’s been fantastic.
