Jankowsi out 6-8 weeks after hand surgery. Szapucki sent down. Lopez and Nogosek brought up. Lopez appealed suspension. Knocked down to 1 game. Serving tonight.
Dan didn’t do a minor league thread, but Alvarez 4-4 with 2 HR, a 2B, and a walk. Nice to see him getting going again

I would expect them to bring up Plummer soon. With an off day yesterday, they probably figured it was a good time for Lopez to serve his suspension
almost gave them back with his usual going to far to his right move
The Mets need to bring in proven veterans for the bullpen. You cant let this team falter because of guys like Shreve and Smith and Rodriguez when you have the money to buy a better pen

I can't put Smith in that category right now.
They will add an arm. We'll also get to say if May can get back to his pre Mets days once he is back. Still plenty of time before deadline to see what shakes out.
I don't want to start calling people out but, he is now 4-2, low 3 ERA with like 20 something strikeouts ; not too shabby for a jag.
Based on IP the strikeout numbers are way down from Mets totals where he was at or above 1 K/IP. This year he is at 0.71. He also has failed to get out of 6th inning in over half of his starts. That tells me the ERA is likely to go up.
RE: RE: Who was it that said Syndergard was a jag now

What is so special about Strikeouts now? Fielders can't field any more? I remember when Doc Gooden said he was going to Strikeout fewer batters and let the fielders take some of the pressure off him. It worked out well.
I would not mind having Noah still a Met right now . 2 mil is chump change for these salaries.
on the mets but he is basically pitching like a 4/5 starter right now. That has value for sure, but it does put you as more a JAG then anything else. He is like 50th in IP in the AL, 60th in K's and hasnt even accumulated enough innings to be ranked in ERA/WHIP. Rankings dont really mean much, i was more using it to make the point he is a JAG i guess. We know wins are a mostly useless stat so his record doesnt really matter to me. His K numbers are awful. SO's are important because the more hitters put the ball in play the more they will get on base and score. Unless you are a guy who consistently has a low BAA on balls in play (Noah doesnt) then its tricky to keep a low ERA (or any advanced ERA stat) when you arent getting K's. His BABIP this year is 259, he hasnt been under 313 since his rookie year. So odds are there is some negative regression coming for him.
yeah wheeler is the one that is still upsetting....
and let’s be real, without Max and Jake - it’s going to be a really tough run. We basically play all first place teams the entire month.
Think about it this way...your talking about having Peterson and someone else start maybe up to 10 games...
If I'm being generous our win % with Max and Tylor is 80% they win 8 of 10? Without it's maybe 30-40%, say they win only 3-4 of those 10....it's not thaaaaat bad
RE: yeah wheeler is the one that is still upsetting....
his average FB is 94 mph down from 97/98 in 2018/2019.
he's also 38 innings into a season where he will probably hit a wall and get shutdown somewhere between 100-150. So he may be a couple starts away from his season being halfway over.
i wanted him back as much as anyone but the mets dodged a bullet in terms of $. I think they still would have gone for Scherzer even with Syndergaard, but I doubt they'd have also added Bassitt - who is also $10m cheaper than Syndergaard would have been which gives them money to spend elsewhere.
also another HR for Vientos last night who is now up to .240 with an .810 OPS. A few more hot weeks and he may be an option to come up and get some DH at bats.
one thing that hurts even more without deGrom and Scherzer is Walker needs to be used more and I'd like to be able to rest him so he's fresh in the 2nd half (unlike last year)
it should help walker that he's more built up by now
one thing that hurts even more without deGrom and Scherzer is Walker needs to be used more and I'd like to be able to rest him so he's fresh in the 2nd half (unlike last year)
Great job by Holderman
RE: it should help walker that he's more built up by now
He has a temperament to be a closer or set up guy; you can just see it ;when I watched the games in San Francisco in between innings and the way he holds himself on the mound. he’s just got that presents. He gets the ball and he wants to throw it
I’m not saying he’s ready now or that he won’t struggle down the line you can see this guy has it, though
RE: RE: it should help walker that he's more built up by now
2020 he threw 53 innings off basically 2 full lost years.
last year he threw 159 which was the 2nd most of his career and most since 2017.
but honestly if he can just bridge the gap to getting the top guys back over the next 1-2 months anything beyond that is gravy.
true it would just be nice to have a fully healthy arsenal if the Mets can manage to hold on for the next few months.
no disagreement at all - but if there's 1 guy whose struggles have a silver lining it's Walker because he's probably one of the most underpaid guys in all baseball and almost definitely opting out unless he gets hurt.
in a full arsenal situation he probably won't get a playoff start so i kind of view this time right now with other guys out as his playoffs.
I view Walker as the long man in the pen, who hopefully you don't need but can be valuable to save the pen if you do - and give the team a chance to say in the game.
And that's assuming deGrom, Scherzer, Bassit and Carrasco all healthy
when he's on his stuff is very impressive. the all star appearance last year wasn't a total fluke.
finding the fountain of durability/consistency as Wheeler has is very uncommon though - and if he puts together a full year this year he's going to get a very big raise.

Agree - walker is a complete afterthought in the playoffs. Assuming max and Jdg are healthy
RE: holderman and smith are like the revenge of the narratives
no more talk smack about the deadline reliever trades or the bonus babies from the kay draft!
good news though we can probably still bitch that they should have signed another rp before ST.
Look this team finally has money - they can Always make a trade at the. Deadline if needed. The window to win a championship is always narrow. Go for it when you can.
Before last that the Phillies would be the most disappointing team in baseball this year. They are a train wreck. Girardi should be fired. Dembrowski just buys players instead of developing them. And I forgot what poster mocked me when I said Schwerber was a major disappointment but he may in fact might be worst signing in the off-season and a huge detriment to the team.
If I’m the Phillies - I become huge sellers at the deadline. Nola, Hoskins (overrated but someone will take a chance), Eflin, Gibson should all be traded so they can get some type of farm. They have literally no hitters in the minors worth a damn.
Are there any real catchers left who wont let a pitcher make a stupid pitch selection like that? Why would Mazeika let Ottavino throw a fastball in that situation?
Mets facing the Dodgers, Padres, Angels (lost 5 straight, now 27-22), and Brewers without their top 3 starters. Maybe Megill gets back for Angels or Brewers
Bullpen will have to be on point - cant afford blown leads late when missing those starters vs those teams. Gotta win the games you lead late in this stretch or it could get ugly

I don’t view it that way, but I guess it may be a good problem to have?!
the Mets are going to acquire proven veteran relievers this summer
Yes. It's unlikely a contender goes with multiple unproven rookie RP but it's nice to have that depth. Also, none are likely to ever be a viable Diaz replacement but a guy like Holderman (or one of the names I just mentioned) could be viable replacements for a guy like May next season.
Man, @stluciemets
really is loaded with interesting players. 20 year old William Lugo has a 116 wRC+/.348 wOBA (top 25 in the league for both numbers) and @mets
liked him enough to sign him for $475,000 August 2018
Junior Tilien's 3 homer game on Sunday was the first 3 homer game in the 34 season history of @stluciemets

damn kind of surprised even though his play has made it likely for a while now.
Probably land somewhere like Pittsburgh at the deadline for a RP or Quintana.
Could see that. The Paddack deal would have been a good one if he wasn't damaged goods but i assume they will do something similar - and at this point it might be better that they waited bc RP is probably the bigger need.
damn kind of surprised even though his play has made it likely for a while now.
Since Dom has options remaining I am not surprised. Guillorme and Plummer are both hitting for now and Davis's metrics indicate that he has run into some bad luck. Give him some consistent AB's in AAA to work things out. With Drew Smith nicked up and 2/5 of the rotation being lucky if they give 5 IP they needed another bullpen arm.
is throwing live BP today, Buck says 1-2 rehab starts before he can come back.
Even if he replaces Trevor Williams in the starting rotation, his pitch counts were getting way too high. If he can't give you more than 5 IP that really taxes the bullpen. Mets might be better served tag teaming Williams with either Peterson or Megill in the hopes of getting 7-8 IP between them.

of why this is the right call to send Dom down to AAA. His defense doesn’t really add much value when Alonso is competent there and Smith doesn’t hit for shit.
Hopefully Smith can at least hit at AAA and redeem some value.

Katoh might be listed as an OF but 0 games out there this year, Vientos also 0, with Lee suddenly showing signs of life, he may in fact get another chance quicker than expected despite his truly awful start to his season
3-0
One team the Mets will have no worries about this year.

After the two losses in SF its time to right the ship - as long as you're looking for the ship to take you to the WS.

He had an offer from the Mets, he appeared ready to accept it and he never even gave the Mets a chance to counter his offer from the Angels.
He did not want to be here. Which is different from someone like Wheeler for example who was pissed the Mets never even made an offer.
The Mets likely would have given Noah the $2.5M more he got from the Angels.
