Game 1 of a 'big' early season series.

1-0 Mets after Pete's sac fly RBI

Lindor just stole 2nd to make it 2nd and 3rd with 1 out

2020 he threw 53 innings off basically 2 full lost years.
last year he threw 159 which was the 2nd most of his career and most since 2017.

but honestly if he can just bridge the gap to getting the top guys back over the next 1-2 months anything beyond that is gravy.

true it would just be nice to have a fully healthy arsenal if the Mets can manage to hold on for the next few months.

holderman and smith are like the revenge of the narratives

no more talk smack about the deadline reliever trades or the bonus babies from the kay draft!

good news though we can probably still bitch that they should have signed another rp before ST.
Holderman
Vanzetti : 5/28/2022 9:37 pm : link
He has a temperament to be a closer or set up guy; you can just see it ;when I watched the games in San Francisco in between innings and the way he holds himself on the mound. he’s just got that presents. He gets the ball and he wants to throw it

I’m not saying he’s ready now or that he won’t struggle down the line you can see this guy has it, though

no disagreement at all - but if there's 1 guy whose struggles have a silver lining it's Walker because he's probably one of the most underpaid guys in all baseball and almost definitely opting out unless he gets hurt.

in a full arsenal situation he probably won't get a playoff start so i kind of view this time right now with other guys out as his playoffs.
In the playoffs
pjcas18 : 5/28/2022 9:42 pm : link
I view Walker as the long man in the pen, who hopefully you don't need but can be valuable to save the pen if you do - and give the team a chance to say in the game.

And that's assuming deGrom, Scherzer, Bassit and Carrasco all healthy
Lindor
pjcas18 : 5/28/2022 9:44 pm : link
is playing well.
Yeah

this Lindor guy is OK.

I foresee several All stars this year from this team
hey im a big walker fan his career isn't far off Wheeler's pre-PHI
Eric on Li : 5/28/2022 9:52 pm : link
when he's on his stuff is very impressive. the all star appearance last year wasn't a total fluke.

finding the fountain of durability/consistency as Wheeler has is very uncommon though - and if he puts together a full year this year he's going to get a very big raise.

What a brutal day on the farm
pjcas18 : 5/29/2022 12:18 am : link
I don't care really about W/L in the minors, but man this is abysmal:

SYR: lost 8 - 0 (had just 4 hits)
BIN: lost 11 - 2 (had just 4 hits)
STL: lost 3 - 0 (had just 4 hits)

Brooklyn lost 9 - 8 all 8 runs came after the 6th inning.

Agree - walker is a complete afterthought in the playoffs. Assuming max and Jdg are healthy

Look this team finally has money - they can Always make a trade at the. Deadline if needed. The window to win a championship is always narrow. Go for it when you can.
So that is scored as fielders choice
Debaser : 5/29/2022 7:35 pm : link
For Escobar? I guess it pays to have a spot on a good roster . That would have been a routine out to first base if there was nobody on base.

I was going to say when Escobar came up wheeler could’ve just thrown three pitches down the middle
Escobar has really been terrible at the plate this year
speedywheels : 5/29/2022 9:29 pm : link
And his defense has been mediocre.

At some point, Buck has to think about rolling with Davis out there
Drew Smith i s injured

Before last that the Phillies would be the most disappointing team in baseball this year. They are a train wreck. Girardi should be fired. Dembrowski just buys players instead of developing them. And I forgot what poster mocked me when I said Schwerber was a major disappointment but he may in fact might be worst signing in the off-season and a huge detriment to the team.

If I’m the Phillies - I become huge sellers at the deadline. Nola, Hoskins (overrated but someone will take a chance), Eflin, Gibson should all be traded so they can get some type of farm. They have literally no hitters in the minors worth a damn.

Are there any real catchers left who wont let a pitcher make a stupid pitch selection like that? Why would Mazeika let Ottavino throw a fastball in that situation?
There was no reason to pitch Ottavino last night.
BigBlueNH : 5/29/2022 10:20 pm : link
Gotta be more judicious using our 2-3 set-up men. Especially with Smith going down.

Okay…they make a lot of bad pitches then.

This pen started off strong but has absolutely come back down to earth.

Plummer and Escobar

different people picking up the team every night.

Has to feel good getting the GW when they intentionally walk someone to get to you.

Hope Smith is ok, this bullpen is not deep.

It is tough but no they don't really need to sweep.
Definitely need 2 of 3 vs Washington
Snablats : 5/29/2022 11:51 pm : link
Mets facing the Dodgers, Padres, Angels (lost 5 straight, now 27-22), and Brewers without their top 3 starters. Maybe Megill gets back for Angels or Brewers

Bullpen will have to be on point - cant afford blown leads late when missing those starters vs those teams. Gotta win the games you lead late in this stretch or it could get ugly

They need to grab as many “easy” wins as they can.

Top 3 starters? Wait, when exactly did Megill pass Cookie and Bassitt? In a fully healthy rotation , Megill is battling Peterson and Walker for #5.

The way Megill was pitching, he was ahead of Bassitt and Carrasco already. To say he would be a 5th starter after how he started the year is just wrong

I don’t view it that way, but I guess it may be a good problem to have?!
I really enjoy coming back

To threads the next day and seeing when we are not winning how everyone just degrades every player not making a play and then….

They come back and win the game.

It’s a long season and Too early to fret that much. After trade deadline tho…it’s fucking on

LGFM
I think Megill would be ahead of Cookie but right behind Bassitt

Yes. It's unlikely a contender goes with multiple unproven rookie RP but it's nice to have that depth. Also, none are likely to ever be a viable Diaz replacement but a guy like Holderman (or one of the names I just mentioned) could be viable replacements for a guy like May next season.
Deadline
DanMetroMan : 5/31/2022 1:09 pm : link
RP's at generally easy to come by, as are bench bats (see last years Braves moves)

damn kind of surprised even though his play has made it likely for a while now.
